Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe only thing that could have been improved was if there was a fridge in the room. This is being really picky, we loved it!
We loved staying here, Ella was great, but quite busy, so this place was a little piece of heaven; relaxing, peaceful, great views from the bed/balcony. The hosts were so lovely (their daughter a little star), breakfast was delicious (western and Sri Lankan), we also had dinner 1 night at the accommodation and it was delicious (it was our last night or we would probably have had it another night). It was a climb up the hill, and then up the stairs to the accommodation. It wasn't an issue for us, we walked down into Ella and then got a Tuk Tuk home up the hill. We were able to walk to the 9 Arches and to Little Adams Peak from the accommodation. (Kettle in room and mosquito nets over bed - both really handy.)

United KingdomI had the pleasure of staying here during my visit to Ella, and from the very moment I arrived I felt completely at home. The warm greeting from the hosts, along with the kind and friendly garden/maintenance gentleman, set the tone for a wonderful stay. We ended up chatting well into the evening, which made me feel more like a welcomed guest than just a visitor. The room itself was beautifully decorated, spotless, and filled with a lovely aroma. Waking up to the breathtaking view across the valley and out to the distant hills was unforgettable, truly a highlight of my time in Ella. I also enjoyed an evening meal during my stay, and I can confidently say it was the best home cooked meal I’ve had so far in Sri Lanka. The flavors, freshness, and care that went into the cooking were simply outstanding. There’s a very strong chance I’ll return to Ella in the future, and if I do, this will absolutely be the only place I stay. Highly recommended for anyone looking for comfort, warmth, and genuine hospitality

NetherlandsSteep climb up a narrow road to get to the accommodation, and some construction work currently going on in the neighborhood.
Absolutely lovely welcome by the host and family! Delicious food, comfortable beds, and a beautiful view over the hills of Ella from the balcony. Town centre within walking distance.

SpainWe had a wonderful stay at this lovely little local hotel in Ella. The mountain views from the property are absolutely breathtaking. It’s the perfect place to relax and take in the beauty and peaceful of nature. What really made our stay special was the kindness of the people who run the hotel. They were incredibly helpful and went above and beyond for us. When we had a problem with our tuk-tuk in town, they came all the way to help us out!! Highly recommended if you're looking for a quiet and scenic place to stay in Ella.

United KingdomThe steep hill was tough to walk up but fine if you don’t have mobility issues / happy to get a tuktuk. Chamith is also happy to give lifts if needed. Due to the location there were some bugs/mosquitos - as expected in the jungle areas though, and the bed has a fab mosquito net around it so all fine to sleep
Spacious room with a comfortable bed. Also recently refurbished and the bathroom was new as well. Good powerful fan for the hot weather! Nice balcony with a table to chill on outside. Staff were incredible - Chamith and his brother were so helpful with any and every request, they carried our bags up the hill and even drove us to our next destination Gqlle when we needed to leave! Can’t recommend this guesthouse enough, breakfast was also yummy and fresh everyday. Also great location near to Ella town - walking distance but a very steep hill up to the hotel so we got a tuktuk most days but it’s cheap so all ok

GermanyWe stayed at Hillsite View for 3 nights and had a wonderful experience. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and each morning we enjoyed a lovingly prepared breakfast that really made us feel at home. The location is peaceful and quiet, yet still just a 10-minute walk from Ella’s town center, with easy access to restaurants, bars, and shops. Our host was incredibly helpful and friendly. He arranged very affordable transport to our next destination and even offered to help organize activities like a traditional Sri Lankan cooking class. We felt well taken care of throughout our stay and would definitely recommend Hillsite View to anyone visiting Ella!

NorwayI had such a great experience at Ella Hillsite View! The room was spacious with an amazing view, and the breakfast was incredible—different every day. Chamith is incredibly kind and helpful—whatever you need, he fixes it instantly! He arranged pick-up from the train station and even drove me all the way from Ella to Hikkaduwa without any problems. I truly recommend Ella Hillsite View! 🌞🌞

SpainAccess was challenging with anyone with mobility issues as a steep hill and steps
The staff were very nice and helped with our bags from the road to the room. Without this we would have struggled. It was lashing with rain when we arrived and there was a a steep hill and steps. They offered a lift to town to pick up a take away which saved the day. The breakfast was super. A 15 min walk to town but away from the noise. Clean room with mosquito nets and spacious terrace.

United KingdomComfortable, spacious room with a lovely private balcony. The host is lovely and really accommodating, helping to organise taxis and suggest day trips. Great view of the mountains! The hill to access the property is incredibly steep (common in Sri Lanka) but Tuk Tuk can access it and once down the hill it’s in a good location.

United KingdomNothing to complain.
First the acccomodatiion: the room is big with shower room, all cleaned and in pristine condition, well equipped including also a small fridge., AC, hairdryer, kettle... Sitting on the balcony in the evening was so nice and relaxing, with great view on Ella night lights and a nice breeze.... Ella noise was far, and the place is quiet. I agree there is a steep road to reach the house, but this is common in shrilanka. A tuk tuk is recommendable anyway tourists are used to climb steep places such as Sigyria or little Adam peak... We had great breakfast and I asked if I could have dinner too.... They were very busy but agreed to prepare dinner for the two nights we stayed there. Second: the hosts are incredibly nice and we had interesting conversations. This made our stay even nicer.

United KingdomIt wasn't an issue for us - but it is steep to get to the house and to the room so very elderly people should watch out.
Great value for money. They looked after us so well with a lovely breakfast every morning. Off the main strip in Ella so not in the madness but still very close to get in.

DenmarkThe road to the hotel is very steep. So you need a taxi from the city, if you have bags.
Cathu is very friendly, and him and his wife is ready to help with everything from transport to cooking classes. He has been a chef at different locations in Sri Lanka, and the food is very good. We all enjoyed our stay at Ella Hillsite view. Traveling as a family with two smaller kids
