How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

Verified reviewHosts are very nice and helpful! I felt like at the hotel: the room was spotless, spacious and comfortable (large bed with good mattress and pillows, mosquito net and a fan) with a nice private balcony to enjoy breakfast watching the surrounding nature ; the bathroom has hot water and all the necessary toiletries. Bonus: mini fridge, kettle and tea. The location make it easy to go to the main road walking, while being a bit down the road to avoid the noise. Very good value for money! I really enjoyed my stay :)

I recommend to buy the new white towels because the ones in the place are so old and not white anymore. Breakfast was served cold.

Verified reviewIncredible setting away from the main road in the soothing noise and wildlife of the jungle. Lovely terrace overlooking the jungle with massive room and bathroom. Great to have a fridge to store water and fresh fruit. Very quiet and super friendly staff who were accommodating and very helpful to sort transport for our next destination and recommend local activities. Thank you so much - wee had a great time!
Towels could have been a bit cleaner - other than that can’t fault it, we loved it here.

Verified reviewThis was the best accomadation I have had during my time in Sri Lanka. The host and his wife were extremely friendly and helpful. But the highlight of this place is the view! Waking up in the morning and looking at the jungle is amazing. Breakfast will be served on the own balcony, with the same nice view. The bathroom is also very big and clean. Compared to other accomadations in Ella, this is high above the standard.

Regarding the location, we completely understand your concerns, but unfortunately, it’s something beyond our control. The property is 280 meters from the main road, accessible via a 6-foot-wide concrete road that even van and cube trucks can use. This is quite common in hilly areas like Ella, where panoramic views often come with mountain roads. As for the stairs, we have clearly mentioned them in our listing and also provided photos on the booking platforms to ensure transparency. Additionally, we have addressed this in previous reviews and responses. We always strive to provide as much information as possible so guests can make an informed decision before booking. Verified reviewPerfect! They serve a great breakfast (you can pick between different options) on your balcony directly, and they can even provide it super early which is convenient ! The owner is very nice and the room is super confortable, especially the bathroom which is big and clean. The place is close to restaurants (5-10mins walking) but not too close from the main road which is super noisy so it's a great location. Would recommend !

Verified reviewThe room was clean and nice with a big balcony. The host met us and was very welcoming and polite. The place is on the hill so you can enjoy a nice view from the bed. We enjoyed this place.
Before booking you have to know that there is no road for a car to go straight to the hotel. You can either walk or go by tuk tuk, it’s around 500 meters from the main the road. It was not a problem for us as they arranged a tuk tuk to pick us up from the main road.

Verified reviewBudget guest house run by the grandparents, the bedroom and bathroom was spacious, jungle views from the terrace with a family of monkeys nearby. The grandson is the resident tuk tuk driver, but prices fluctuate, If you struggle with mobility, it's probably not the place for you 36 steep steps to the room, it's a trek to get to the main road, very narrow and very hilly track that only tuk tuks can navigate, getting a tuk tuk back to the guest house was a problem during the day and evening, the driver's didn't want to navigate the difficult track.
Remote area, steps to the room, bathroom towels (one each)not clean, and smelled of cooking, cold breakfast, it's a long way from their cooking area

Regarding the tuk-tuk service, we want to clarify that all tuk-tuk drivers, including our grandson, operate as independent third-party services. We never compel guests to use any particular tuk-tuk, and before arranging one, we always inform guests of the prices and provide direct contact details for negotiation if needed. As for the location and steps, most accommodations in Sri Lanka’s central hilly region have steps due to the natural terrain. Our guesthouse is just 300 meters from the main road, with a 6.5-foot-wide concrete road that is accessible to even small trucks. There are 11 other accommodations along this road, and both vans and cars regularly use it, so tuk-tuk drivers declining to come here is quite uncommon. Regarding your concerns about cleanliness and breakfast, our caretaker is always available to assist, and we make it a priority to address any issues when brought to our attention. However, during your stay, we did not receive any complaints. We always encourage guests to let us know if anything needs improvement so we can make their stay as comfortable as possible. Verified reviewIt was clean, spatious, had a beautiful view and a delicious breakfast. It's a place where you can comfortably rest during a long trip. We liked it so we tried booking the room for one extra night but unfortunately it was taken.
A bit diffucult for the tired traveller was that between 5-6am there was a chanting from the nearby monastery. It was interesting for 1 day stay but could be tiring in the long run.

Verified reviewI stayed at Duet Hearts in Feb 2025. The host was one of the kindest persons I’ve met. The room was spacious and clean. The best: a breath-taking view of the valley, especially during dawn and dusk. Sitting on the patio looking over the valley was my favorite thing to do while at Duet Hearts.
Although it was only 10 minutes walk to Ella Main Street, it involves a few steep climbs on very narrow country road. And internet connection was intermittent at best.

Great breakfast on the balcony served at time of our choosing. Comfortable bed, good night's sleep. Five/ten minutes stroll to town. Tuktuk should cost around 300.
