How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe place is amazing. We had a room with pool and garden view and we wouldn’t change it. Breakfast was tasty with different kind of goods - sweet, savory, fruit etc. The pool is really nice and we stayed there and enjoyed the sun beds and everything. There is a free tuk tuk service from 10am to 7pm and its great,we appreciated it and used it more than once. The staff was really nice and helpful. We really recommend the place.
Just be prepared for birds - sometimes they are louder than expected.

Verified reviewThe location is beautiful, surrounded by a green oasis, tidy and cosey. There's a great breakfast selection including fruits, local dishes and both sweet and savory options. Staff is very helpful and friendly, they have a drop off and pickup service during the day to take you to Mirissa main road. We also enjoyed the pool.

Verified reviewLovely boutique hotel backing onto the canal. Authenticity designed with a lovely pool to swim in. The canal cruise was lovely early morning, really peaceful. The staff were fantastic! So helpful and friendly. We loved the local wildlife from water monitors to feeding tortoises, to watching fireflies at night. It was so peaceful and relaxing. Breakfast was always great with homemade jams to boot.
We enjoyed the 15 minute walk into town (followed by all the local dogs and saying hi to the locals). The free tuk tuk is available until 7 pm, but it’s really after 7 pm and hat you would use it after having dinner out. We also found the sun lounge area small and on grass with muddy patches. It was a bit crowded and towels got a bit dirty with the mud.
Thank you for your comments

Verified reviewThis is one the nicest hotels that I have stayed at. The rooms and the hotel in general is absolutely beautiful but what really sets this place apart is the service. Lahiru, Priya and the rest of the staff are warm, welcoming and make this place a true joy to stay at. Truly sad to be leaving but we will definitely return, overall 10/10 experience and would recommend this place to everybody going to Mirissa!
None - everything exceeded my expectations

Verified reviewLovely accommodation set back from the main area of Mirissa. Lovely breakfast with homemade mango and passionfruit jams which were delicious. Great facilities with tea/coffee and cake throughout the day. Great free tuk tuk service to the main road which aided getting into the centre of Mirissa which is also walkable. Great to have mosquito nets as they are required with the river next door. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Verified reviewThe Canalhaus is a truly special place. It is romantic, lovingly designed, and tastefully integrated into the surrounding jungle. It also has a fantastic pool. The interior of the rooms is beautifully furnished with wooden furniture and cozy corners. The bed was very comfortable, and we especially liked the bathroom. The kitchen, with its colorful glass tiles, was exceptional and well-suited for self-catering. The fact that the entire area is illuminated at night, allowing you to walk through a forest of lights, was truly unique. The breakfast was perfectly fine. The service at this hotel was absolutely wonderful. We were given plenty of excursion recommendations, and every wish was anticipated. If there was a problem, it was addressed immediately. Whether we needed a driver, a taxi, or a tuk-tuk, everything was perfectly organized. Everyone was friendly and always had a smile on their face.
Alles hat uns gefallen

Verified reviewThe location just out of the busy street in Mirissa is beautiful. If you don't want to walk for 10 to 15 minutes to town, there is a free tuktuk they will arrange for you. The manager and staff were super friendly. Amazing pool, beautiful garden! Breakfast is very good, with homemade jams. They have tea and coffee and cold water available all day. The room is also very nice. Would definitely stay here again when coming back to Mirissa! Feels more like a home than a hotel.

Verified reviewOur stay in D Canal House was amazing. It's the perfect place to stay in Mirissa. Away from the crowds but close enough to the city center. With the free tuk tuk service to the main road, we get there very easily in 5 minutes. The bedroom is super confortable, everything is very clean and the balcony has an amazing view for the pool and the garden. The surroundings of the hotel are very beautiful and well treated. The breakfast is probably the best we had in all Sri Lanka. The pool and the garden are amazing. The staff is incredibly kind and helpful. Always making sure that everything is perfect for us. Special thanks to Lahiru, who took care of everything regarding our stay, gave us a lot of sugestions and helped us a lot with the train to leave. Thank you to Priyankara who received us in the first day and was always so kind for us. It's an amazing place, with amazing staff and if we come back to mirissa that's where we want to stay!
