The restaurant is quite short staffed, so waiting times for food can take a very long time. We didnt mind waiting over an hour, but this is helpful to prepare for if you have evening plans. Our room had a glass door which meant the room was very bright by 5:30am. I am a light sleeper so the light shining in was a problem. A curtain is needed for the door (ive attached a photo). My partner wasnt bothered by it much because he is a deep sleeper. There arnt many shops nearby either. We thankfully managed just at restaurants, but there is no grocery store if needed.

We spent 5 days at Coconut Leaf Shadow Guest and were very happy with the location. It is about a 10 minute walk from the beautiful beach. There are lots of restaurants around so every night you can try out a different restaurant! Our room was very clean and to a high standard! We enjoyed our breakfasts at the restaurant too! The man serving at the restaurant helped us with transport and gave recommendations for snorkling! (I snorkled with DivingGuru- i’d totally recommend!) If you are wanting to save a bit of money, this place is a great value for what you get

The staff at the restaurant and at the hotel were all very nice. They helped us arrange the transfer to our next destination. The room was in good conditions but, at least for me, the pillow was not that comfortable. Also, the bathroom was not that good, here in Sri Lanka is normal to have the shower with no separation to the rest of the bathroom and, on top of that, in the case of this hotel the toilet would get floded after each shower. But apart from those 2 little details everything else was good, reasonable price-quiality

The bathroom was super small. The door was traslucent in our apartment and the light could get through, however the rest of apartments were not like that.

Friendly place with a good restaurant nearby. Close to the beach and easily reachable. They offer a lot of activities around.

The guest house is very close to a local temple and a mosque which both start their calls to prayer very early at dawn, so I wouldn’t necessarily recommend the place to light sleepers.

A very decent room considering the price with a big enough bed and air conditioning. The owners are very welcoming and we decided to rent a scooter from them for our 2 days in Nilaveli and also use the laundry service which was very good! All in all a good place to stay in the area considering the budget.

Super clean with beautiful linen, lovely verandah, AC and fan.. and 5 mins from a stunning beach. Gede is a wonderful host with lots of great tips and advice. We booked for 3 nights and stayed for 4 ... such a relaxing place. We hired a scooter opposite in the lane beside the property. Fabulous restaurant a 15 min scooter ride away Daily Delight in Vallipuram.

.A fine base to enjoy the beach and explore the Trincomalee area. The family is friendly and goes out of their way to make your stay enjoyable. The new appartments are simply (but fully and cleanly) furnished. Part of the garden and breakfast area are still under development. Wholeheartedly recommended.

It would be an idea to add western breakfast options or at least a simple banana pancake for the children.

We stayed in the older house with a veranda and a lot of shade. The room was cosy with 4 persons but with airco and this is the only thing we needed!!! The beach and a lot of restaurant options in the surrounding walking distance. In the weekend locals tend to build a party near the beach so this was super fun. Try snorkeling (also possible without the expensive 40 dollar visit to pigeon island) or diving. We drive with our own tuktuk which you can stall in the garden. Go and see the cultural part in the nearby Trincomalee.

The bin in the toilet didn't get changed, the mattress and pillow were quite hard.

Lovely local guesthouse, really clean, friendly staff and delicious home cooked food could be pre ordered. About a 10 minute walk to the beach.

We stayed here for 3 days. The position is very good 5 min walking to the beach! The room very clean and the staff is so really friendly! You could also order the meals, lunch or dinner on request, the price is good, cheaper and it was absolutely amazing the food! We recommend it!!

Bit noisy during night because of a proximity of mosque and kovil. Nets on the window would do a trick. Worn-out rooms (new fancy rooms are being built by the host in the neighbourhood).

Very nice host. Tasty food. 5 min walk from a beautiful Nilaveli beach with some good waves. Excellent value. Restaurants and shop nearby. Coral island snorkeling trip - many fish, alive coral and reef sharks.

It's a bit far to the beach. Walking along the beach northwards, just at the border of the settlement, there is an army area with many antennas where I was not allowed to pass because of health reasons.

Nice family. Guest rooms were in an extra building with shared kitchen just for guests. Kitchen usage costs extra (300LR a day). Room, bathroom and kitchen were very clean. Kitchen and common rooms were cleaned daily. Room with good possibilities to put my clothes, with a big table, but less space which was OK because of the kitchen just outside and common area at the terasse. WiFi was not so good, but mobile data (Dialog) works very well there. Free water supply from an extra tap in the garden (drinking water) possible.

We stayed 4 nights at Coconut Leaf Shadow Hotel. We had a family room for the 4 of us. The room is not very large, but you don't spend time inside and there is a large terrace outside. The food were delicious. Our hosts were really kind and helpful. They prepared for us a take away breakfast to bring to Pigeon Island. It was great. We had tears in the eyes when we left!

There were a couple of cockroaches in the cupboard which woke us up

If you want to escape from the crowd, you should really check out this homestay. The place is very peaceful, feels like home, and has the most friendly owners. Food was amazing, the owner loved asking us about our plans and gave us tips (also life lessons) where possible. Lastly, before we left they even gave us each a coconut to drink on the way.

Basic accommodation, therefore low price, but with all the things you need. Friendly hosts that you can ask for anything. Very stable internet to get some remote work done. Enough restaurants in the direct neighbourhood. The walk to the beach is very doable. The dogs leave you alone if you want to, but come for cuddles if you want them to.

Everything was perfect!

A lovely peaceful place just a 10 minute walk from the beach! The owner and staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful, everything was very clean and the room was just as described! Lots of restaurants are very close by, and if you let them know beforehand the owner can provide food at the property. We chose a room with a fan which is of course warmer than AC, however the fan is very effective and kept us cool all night. Highly recommend a stay here if you are travelling to Nilaveli!

We felt like at home, warm welcomed and the family helped us with everything we need. Very clean rooms, delicious food and warm atmosphere. We spent 9 nights and really enjoyed our relaxing time in Nilaveli thanks to them.
