Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

ItalyThe property is a bit isolated and far from the restaurants that are concentrated in the area closer to the lake and Sigiroya. However, it's a 10-minute walk away (but only during daylight hours). A tuk-tuk service is available for the return journey after dark.
It's a little paradise, with cozy and spacious stilt houses overlooking Sigiriya, which can be glimpsed in the distance from the balcony, which also has chairs for relaxing. The houses have a private bathroom, a boiler with tea, and bottled water is also provided in the rooms. There are mosquito nets on the beds. The breakfast is very good and plentiful. The host is very welcoming, available for any requests, and always smiling and affable.

GermanyWe had a fantastic stay at Chena Huts! The rooms were clean, beautifully designed, and perfectly nestled in nature. From the breakfast area, you can enjoy a peaceful view of the surrounding greenery – a great way to start the day. Our host, Amila, made our experience truly special. He was incredibly friendly and helpful, organizing all the activities we wanted to do in the area. Whether it’s safaris, local tours, or cultural visits – he knows the right people and takes care of everything. If you’re lucky and he has time, he might even personally drive you to your next destination. In our case, he took us to Polonnaruwa and gave us a small private tour on the way – a real highlight! One of the mornings, we were surprised with a special breakfast that wasn’t even on the plan – a lovely gesture that made us feel right at home. You can really tell that a lot of care and thought goes into hosting here. Out of all the places we stayed during our trip, this was one of the most beautiful and relaxing. We felt safe, welcomed, and completely at ease. A special shoutout goes to the Tuk Tuk tour to the viewpoints with Chathu – it was one of the most memorable experiences we had in Sri Lanka. Riding through the countryside in a Tuk Tuk, discovering hidden spots and scenic views, was simply magical. If you’re looking for a peaceful, authentic, and warm place to stay – this is it. Highly recommended!

AustraliaLoved the little huts right in the jungle. So peaceful and an amazing view of lion rock from the verandah. The chalet was spacious and had a mosquito net and adjacent bathroom. The little verandah had a table and two chairs to enjoy the view - so pretty! The huts are quiet basic but with nice little touches and tea/coffee and a kettle. There’s no aircon but the fan worked a treat. Staff were very accommodating and friendly. Dinner is very affordable and tasty - I ate in for two nights. Breakfast was different on both morning with fresh fruit, toast and some Sri Lankan dishes. It’s a little out of the way so would suggest having your own car / driver.

GermanyAs I described the bath was a little bit simple- that’s could be a little bit better with a little bit more love
The Tree House was in the little of nature. So we could hear a lot of animals during the day and also in the night. We liked the view out of the balcony- just nature no other people, no loudness than the nature. The Breakfast was undividual. Amina the owner gave us a lot of interesting and necessary tips for the surroundings. The Room was nice a lot of wooden things- that’s what we like. The bath is a little bit simple but it’s okay for taking a shower. Of course you will have animals in the tree house but you have a net round the bed so they won’t disturb you. And don’t forget it’s the nature so nothing happend would you should worry about.

Everything was amazing! The huts have beautiful views and everything needed for a stay. The breakfast included was great with lots of fruit and mix of sri lankan and western breakfast. Amila went above and beyond to help us get tuk tuks and even providing us a transfer himself. Fantastic stay and incredible hospitality.

PortugalAmila is an incredible host. Super friendly, nice and helpful with everything. He took me and a couple on a tour to Polonnaruwa, and we had a chance to talk about the Sri Lanka day to day life, the country's history and current reality. Amazing talks. On the way from Polonnaruwa we had an superb lunch on a very local restaurant (one would never find it online), where he had a really tasty rice and curry. One of the best I had in Sri Lanka! The property is very beautiful, with beautiful views from the Lion Rock, and from my balcony I could see some sweet squirrels, hornbils and monkeys! Amazing experience and place to relax. Totally recommend. The room is quite comfortable and you get to hear the nature sounds during the night - which I found quite interesting - hence using ear plugs make it more comfortable to sleep 😉 You can walk to the center with all restaurants and bars, within a 20 minute walking, which I really enjoyed.

NetherlandsNot all huts are animal-proof, which showed after we had a big lizard find itself a way inside. After some time, however, the owners were willing to love us to another hut. The huts are pretty basic, as can be expected.
Very nice huts in the middle of the nature, with a great view on Lions Rock, situated a little bit away from Sigirya. The owners are very friendly, make great breakfast and are willing to support with your requests.

United KingdomThe huts are very much, as described, eco huts. So there's no aircon which meant the rooms did get a bit warm overnight. The huts also have mesh covers instead of glass windows on one of the sides, these were damaged in areas so a lot of critters found their way into the rooms (bugs of all varieties, frogs and geckos). There were also a couple of holes in the mosquito nets so we got covered in bites during the evening. The bathrooms would benefit from some upgrades, and on one of the evenings the water wasn't working so we couldn't shower/flush the loo etc. Just a couple of repairs in these areas would make this place a full 10/10
Amila was so very friendly and helpful during our stay. From collecting us from Sigirya Airport (a military base, so he needed to have special checks done for this purpose) to helping us arrange all our excursions during our stay in a non biased way. Using his advice we didn't go to the safari we had planned and instead went to an eco park and saw so much more than we would have if we'd have stuck to our plans! Amila also connected us to a local tuktuk driver who became our personal driver during our stay and was really helpful with our tours but would also deliver and collect us from evenings in the nearby villages which meant we felt confident venturing out a bit further. Amila gave us his own whatsapp and was available to help with whatever we needed during the entirety of our stay, and even text us to let us know there were wild elephants in the field next door so we could go and have a look! The huts themselves are in a very beautiful location and incredibly peaceful. There is plenty of wildlife in the grounds of Chena Huts from monkeys to peacocks and tiny and cheeky chipmunk/squirrels. We really enjoyed the breakfasts each day and would recommend asking for the Sri Lankan omelets or the dahl and hoppers. The location is also perfect, close enough to the village to walk during the day, but far enough to be perfect tranquil at night. Lions Rock is very close by which made the sunrise wakeup less painful, and you get a gorgeous view from the balconies. We would stay here again, and would recommend to friends - just so long as they understood that this is a natural eco retreat and some of the things that come with that.

GreeceThe bed was not the most comfortable I have slept in. Due to the quietness around, any noise during the night sounds quite loud: animals (squirrels, dogs, peacocks) and people (if you happen to have neighbors talking loudly) - so be careful if you are a light sleeper. Also, you may encounter some small insects (nothing scary), but this is expectable in a nature hut!
Very interesting experience! Beautiful location with direct view to Sigiriya rock, rather secluded spot among farming fields and animals around. Peaceful and amid nature. The host is super friendly, speaking fluent English and he arranged everything for us (safari, tuk tuk, meals - including hand-made and fresh breakfast)! He also helped us make our schedule in Sigiriya, offered us options and gave his honest opinion. I would recommend it and stay again!
