Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaNothing.
Very secure, clean and located centrally to Hikkaduwa. Didn't utilise the breakfast facility but it really wasn't required as there are ample restaurants that do breakfast nearby. The bathroom was magnificent. Great water pressure and hot water. We were one level from the top, with a little view of the beach and magnificent sunsets. The buildings around it made for great photos with the tuk tuks passing by. There is a train track a few buildings behind that can be heard. When the room is closed up its not a problem. You can hear the horn early though if it's used. The room itself was extremely clean. Had tea and coffee/kettle and hair-dryer available. Aircon worked a treat and we didn't have any days without power. Cable channels on the TV and wifi was exceptional. There is no elevator but the staff assisted with carrying our bags up. We didn't find the stairs to be an issue. Highly recommend for a stay if you are in the area.

United KingdomThe railway line was close by, but as per previous reviewers, trains were very few and far between and so did not affect us. There is work ongoing at present to add further storeys to the building, but the work does not start early or finish late, so the owners are mindful of this.
The best thing about the hotel was the room quality. Having toured Sri Lanka for nearly a month, we had stayed at a number of good hotel rooms let down by the bathroom quality. The Chaaya Inn, being only I think about three years old, did not disappoint in this respect with a clean modern bathroom, comfortable beds and effective air conditioning. The optional breakfast at 1500rps was also very good. The hotel is very close to the Turtle beach and we were able to watch hatchling releases on successive nights. For meals, we'd recommend the Salty Beers pub / restaurant just on the corner near the hotel, great atmosphere.

GermanyI had a great stay at this hotel! It’s easily accessible to the beach, and we were lucky enough to have a beautiful beach view from our room. The breakfast was delicious and definitely worth the price. The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly, which made the experience even better. The location is fantastic for shopping, with plenty of eateries nearby. It’s a great spot if you want to be close to both the beach and all the action in the area. Highly recommend!

NorwayWe were a group of six who stayed at this hotel for four nights, and we had a very pleasant experience. The hotel had a good standard, and the staff was very friendly and service-minded. We also had breakfast at the hotel, which was excellent. Every morning, we were served fresh fruit and freshly squeezed juice. The cleanliness was great—our room was cleaned and tidied up every morning. All in all, we were very satisfied with our stay!

SwedenA bit noisy, building (another floor on top) during the day, party in nearby restaurant during night. And close to road with traffic.
Good location if you want to stay close to Turtle beach, diving etc. Good value for money with nice AC, big room, big bed and sea view. Staff were super friendly.

NetherlandsThe only thing was that the view is less beautiful than we thought on the pictures, but maybe because we were staying at the 2nd floor.
It was a nice room to stay in for a few days. It has a fridge and a working airco, so that are the most important things in a room. The staff is friendly and want to do anything for you.

GreeceThere is a big greenish building just in front of the balcony that partially covers the seaview so you actually get the full seaview only on the highest floor. Of course it's not a real problem, the view and balcony is still nice but it's good to know.
The hotel was very very clean, the rooms, the bathroom and the common space. Also, i recommend to try breakfast because they has some nice local food cooked ans served for you (you order one day before, no buffet) which was interesting, fresh and tasty. (I loved your pancakes with coconut). The hotel is next to the turtle beach and all the shops, restaurants etc. We rent a tuktuk and they offered us a parking place right next to the hotel.

ThailandThere isn't really anything that I didn't like.
Good location. Staff were friendly and helpful. My room was clean and spacious. Everything worked fine. Lighting was good. Large balcony with table and 2 chairs with sea views and sea breeze. The bed had clean linens and afforded me a comfortable sleep. There was a power point next to the bed. The bathroom was also spacious with an enclosed shower. Excellent hot water shower and pressure. Breakfast was western food for me with some Sri Lankan thrown in. All too much for me but I enjoyed what I could eat. Overall, I had a comfortable stay here.

We had a great stay at Chaaya Inn. Our room was spacious and spotlessly clean. The air conditioning was good and the shower was very hot and powerful. We had a big balcony with great views of the beach. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. We were given two large bottles of water each day. We also had laundry done at the hotel. The location is very good, a one minute walk to where Hikkaduwa Beach and Turtle Beach meet (you can walk to Turtle Point in a couple of minutes). I would highly recommend this hotel and would stay here again if ever I was back in Hikkaduwa.

Great staff, good location (near shops and beach). Nice, spacious room with balcony. Nice, that breakfast (for 4 euro) is available (however some of food was quite spicy for kids, but for the next morning we asked to 'update our breakfast').
