Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

SwitzerlandThe bus to Kandy can be very crowded at times
Amma is a wonderful host and makes you feel at home at once. Her homestay is a lovely place full of flowers and plants. Stay there if you want a truly local experience. The place is about 4 km from Kandy. It's easy to get a bus to town and back.

FranceThe hostess was really nice. She welcomed us as family. To add to our joy, the fury friends were all super cute and playful. The dinner and breakfast were delicious. She should have charged us way more for the services delivered!

Czech RepublicMy most favourite accommodation in Sri Lanka. A lovely and calm homestay ran by kind lady with warm heart. Amma has a nice house full of various flowers and friendly pets what makes your stay a very enjoyable experience (you feel like at your grandma's house). Rooms are spacious with comfortable beds. Amma is such a wonderful person and I just loved to chat with her about Sri Lanka in the evenings because thanks to her I learnt a lot of interesting information and also got many tips what to do during my journey. Meals cooked by Amma are just delicious (the true Sri Lanka quisine) and portions are quite big compared to other places I stayed. I cannot say anything negative about this homestay and I would definitely recommend this place, you won't be disappointed. Amma, once again thank you so much for everything!

AustraliaI have nothing bad to say about this stay. It is worth noting that the property is slightly out of the main centre so I relied on Tuk Tuks to get me to and from the centre (paid around 400-600 each way)
I spent 2 nights at Ammas homestay and had a very comfortable and relaxing experience. Her food was amazing (very generous portions) and her willingness to invite me into her home was much appreciated, especially on Christmas! She has an amazing plant collection and some friendly pets! If you are visiting Kandy and wanting to some peace away from the busy kandy centre I would highly recommend!

NetherlandsThe tuktuk driver might tell you it is quite far and therefor will sell you a whole tour (instead of just the ride). It was nice to explore Kandy on the way to Amma’s Homestay, but some places felt quite commercial.
Really nice experience to stay at Amma’s place! If you are looking for a calm and special place in Kandy, I can highly recommend staying here. Amma welcomes you in her house, making it feel like you are family. With nice chats, lovely food, a nice bedroom (and own bathroom) and the unique experience of living a day in a Sri Lankan home. You can reach her house just outside busy Kandy by tuktuk or even by bus. I would recommend staying the evening at her place, to enjoy her food and nice chats. So, if you are searching for a personal touch and get a real Sri Lankan experience, please go to Amma’s Homestay. She will welcome you with a warm heart! And you will leave with the feeling you had a mum in Sri Lanka for a day (or two) :)

Hong KongThat I had not enough time to stay longer
Staying at Amma‘s felt more like visiting good friends then staying at a guesthouse. The house is surrounded by a beautyful garden with tiny humming birds, little froggys and naturally the two cats and the dog of the house. I wish I could spend more evenings with Amma, Namasha, Lullu, Duke and Suki. Actually, in future I will :)

NetherlandsNothing.
Amma is a superhost. She explained the bus, the shops in Kandy and possible excursions. A 7 minutes walk to the busstation and then within 10 minutes near the Temple of Tooth and town.was easy to do. The food was the best I had in Sri Lanka. The rooms are good and clean. The cold shower was fresh. A very special day was a visit to a school close to the guesthouse where I could give a donation. I would love to come back to stay.

IndiaGuys if you want peace of mind genuinely please don't go, what is showing in pitchers is all fake, they are located in very extreme location and at night it is very dangerous uphill in mountains with no light and no security. The staff is very unprofessional & blunt rude. They don't care about guests. If you go you are at your own risk in an unknown country. Better go in the city side, safety matters not money. Be aware of this type of horrible properties.
Nothing is there to like. The staff is very rude and arrogant. They take booking and when you reach the property they will ditch you. I booked & they took booking & upon reaching the property at night 2130 hrs with luggage he refused to accommodate saying you go I will cancel your booking. It was such a horrible night in that extreme mountain with no lights and you are in the jungle on a deep dark night alone. Don't go there be inside the city area for a safe stay. Safety matters not money.
