How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

It was my first time in a guesthouse and I can’t tell how much I loved it. Amal and his family are SO welcoming and nice, the place is super clean, the rooms are very comfortable. I recommend 100%, and would come back 100%.

Amal is a great host . Location is great - quiet and yet close to the beach. Room was spacious and clean. Shower 10/10❤️loved the shared decking terrace and kitchen . Whale watching tour booked via Amal was great . Good WiFi and aircon . Laundry done a stones throw away .

No views from the balcony (looking directly into the window of the neighbouring accommodation). No sofa / comfortable seating area. Room can feel very warm on hot days. Small bathroom.
Very clean accommodation. Large, comfortable bed. Hot shower. Mosquito net. Within walking distance to beach, shops, restaurants. Access to the kitchen. Very nice staff. Juice prepared on arrival.

The only improvement we would suggest would be bigger sheet covers on the bed, as the ones we had felt quite small to sleep with.
A really lovely property owned by a wonderful family. We had a comfortable stay :)

Everything was good.
The most clean accommodation in Sri Lanka! For sure! :) Good location, big bed, good AC, nice terrace, the owner a great person which smiles always. Free parking places. Excellent quality for the price we paid!

I was alone in the double room and I was a bit missing a smaller wardrobe/chest of drawers. But it is possible that other rooms have this equipment.
The owner of Amal Guest House is very kind and helpful. The accommodation is pleasant, also thanks to the covered terrace. Some rooms have a fan, some air conditioning. You need to pay attention to this when booking.

The shower and the toilet are right next to each other. So after the shower, everywhere is wet and it takes time to get dry. It would be nice to have a shower squeegee available.
We stayed two nights at Amal's Guest House and it is strongly recommended! Great value for money! The room we slept in was not big but it was very pretty with a cute balcony where it was possible to dry some clothes. And the common area right next to the room compensates the room size. The cleanliness is exceptional. Amal is more than just polite and friendly. He is also super caring and helpful. He organized a whale watching tour and taxi service with a very good price. I am still very grateful for that.

Amal was a very welcoming and helpful host, the family were all very friendly. The room was a great size, comfy bed and brilliant AC! There is also a shared kitchen available for use and a fridge to cool drinks!!

Very clean property and close to some good restaurants and the beach. The hosts were lovely and always willing to help with booking activities or tuk tuks/cars. Pretty basic facilities but in good condition and comfortable. The balcony was great to relax on too.

We loved this guest house! The family are so lovely, and the rooms are comfy and clean - it was the cleanest place we stayed during our 2 weeks Sri Lanka (and the strongest wifi connection too!). The perfect location for exploring Mirissa, and on a quiet side street. Great value for money. We would definitely stay again.

Situated in a back street a short walk (10 mins) from the main road and beach, this place is very quiet with plenty of nearby eating and drinking options. It’s situated in a dead end road so there is very little traffic. The room was clean and comfortable with a large bathroom. The owner and his family are very friendly and helpful. A great place to stay.

The terrace is nice and cosy. It would make it even more comfortable if it had something like a hammock or beach chair, to spend the time. The tables are nice, but not so comfortable. Would have been helpful to have a cupboard in the room for the clothes.
Amal and his family are very nice and helpful. The Guesthouse is close to town and beach. The room was big enough and clean.

Nothing. My only regret is that we couldn't stay longer.
This is an ideal place to stay in Mirissa. Far enough from the main road to be quiet, not too far of a walk from the beach and close to several very good restaurants. The room itself is large, clean, well-decorated, with a huge shared terrace area to relax outside. The bed is comfortable and much wider than others we've had in Sri Lanka. The bathroom is super clean and the shower is warm with good pressure. It even includes a shared kitchen with a large fridge freezer, kettle, stove and all cooking equipment you might need. Amal and his family are wonderful hosts, super smiley, friendly and helpful. Offered great advice for any onward travel, can rent you a scooter or drive you somewhere in their Tuk Tuk. Thank you for such a nice stay for our last night in Sri Lanka!

Everything was perfect! Internet strong, good fan, spacious room with balcony, well equipped kitchen, quiet road near really good roti shop. Best thing is the owner and his family though who are all the most lovely people! Would highly recommend :)
