Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Sri LankaOnly thing I’d suggest is adding a small refrigerator in the room — it would be useful for keeping drinks or snacks cool.
The peaceful atmosphere, the stunning view of the Nam Ou River and mountains, the friendly staff and owner, and the clean, comfortable rooms.

Perfect little gem. The view is amazing, the rooms are quant, and rustic. The pool was brilliant after a hot day with the many activities available in the town. Sebastian, the owner, was very accommodating. What a great place to stay.

SwitzerlandI can’t think of anything I didn’t like, it was a great experience from start to finish.
I had a wonderful stay at Mandala Ou. The atmosphere is incredibly peaceful, with beautiful views of the river and surrounding mountains. The rooms are spacious, clean, and tastefully furnished—everything feels well thought out. The pool is surrounded by greenery and was one of my favorite spots to relax after a day of exploring. They offer bicycles, which made getting around town incredibly easy and convenient—a great way to explore at your own pace. The staff were kind, welcoming, and genuinely helpful. I also really appreciated the resort’s thoughtful approach to sustainability—they provide reusable water bottles that you can refill any time for free, which is such a nice touch. The resort’s restaurant offers a variety of fresh and flavorful options, both Western and Lao. I especially enjoyed the breakfast buffet, which truly left nothing to be desired. Would 100% come back. One of my favorite stays in Laos.

SloveniaThe price was at least 2x too high. We paid 70usd per night. Utterly too expensive for what you get
The host Sebastian was great! Very talkative and had a lot of fun stories from his travela. The place was super cute with many nice details and lights. Breakfast was a buffet (continental + muesli & fruits), so it was something for vegans as well. You don't get this often in Laos.

Hidden away in a stunning riverside setting, this small-scale resort is a true gem. Sebastiaan is a fantastic host who goes above and beyond to make every guest feel welcome. One of the highlights is the swimming pool—rare in this area—offering a refreshing escape with breathtaking views over the river. The food is simply outstanding. In fact, this is the only place in Laos where I would confidently order a schnitzel or a hamburger—both are absolutely excellent. A wonderful stay in every way!

United KingdomAmazing views. Loved sitting on the balcony looking out onto the river, with its wonderful mountain backdrop. The restaurant and the pool all have the same magnificent view. Lovely lighting throughout. Interesting decor in the rooms, with bottles recessed into the walls. Sebastian the owner was great, really helpful and friendly. We were able to use the free bikes, which was an added bonus. It is a short distance from the central hub so if we were feeling lazy the bikes came in useful. We also used them to cycle to some caves and a museum a few kilometres away. Great trip. .

United KingdomYou are in the jungle so don't be surprised if nature and (its noises!) are nearby!
The pictures really do paint the reality! An incredible spot - magical in so many ways. Don't expect super luxurious but expect charm, position and authenticity and you won't be disappointed. Very friendly folk, great food, views to drink in. Pool a definite bonus after hot hikes to viewpoints! Book a river view bungalow if you can.

United States- bathroom has a curtain and a high window into the room, so privacy is lacking if that matters to you. - Roosters woke us up at 4:30. Just saying. Bring plugs. - breakfast adequate but not memorable
-Awesome view from our Deluxe Double room with River View room, looking right out to the river and mountain scenery beyond - Stylish room, comfortable bed - Owner Sebastian extremely hospitable and helpful with recommendations - Free use of good bicycles makes transport to center/bridge real easy in 5 minutes ( though can certainly walk it in 15 minutes). - Beautiful outdoor restaurant/bar area

NetherlandsThe beds were not that comfortable; the breakfast was quite basic; the shower is poor (we also stayed at the Riverside for a couple of nights and found the room, bed, bathroom/hot water and breakfast quite a bit better while Riverside charged some US$ 20-25 less per night)
The setting with the bar and pool is the biggest plus; the location close to the bus station and the availability of bikes were very convenient

United KingdomStayed in a garden view room which was a bit dark and damp/cold (we visited at a cooler time of year). The room is also quite dated and could have felt a bit cleaner, the toilet was also a bit smelly.
Lovely property with great views over the river from the pool and dining area. Great breakfast and the restaurant for dinner is also lovely. The rooms are big and the bed very comfortable. Free to use bikes also a great benefit, especially given the property is at the other end of town to most restaurants. Right next to the bus station so easy to get to and from.

AustraliaThe bathroom isn’t very private, with a curtain for a door.
Cute little basic bungalows, with air con and own bathrooms. This hotel is in a really remote part of Laos so it is not a usual large resort, and they have it really well set up. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable about the area, and helped us with questions daily. The staff are mostly locals and they are so kind and helpful. They offer washing service, free bikes to use, a book-swap library, and help with arranging car transfers in and out of Nong Kiaw. The rooms are basic but very comfortable. Ours had air con, and a fan, plus a small balcony overlooking the Nam Ou river. There is a safe in the room, an area to hang clothes, and the rooms are cleaned daily. The restaurant serves breakfast (included in our room fee) as well as lunch and dinner. The breakfast is quite good with some Asian and western foods. Highly recommended the banana pancakes! We ate lunch and dinner at the restaurant and the food was delicious. We ate the local food options and they were as good as some of the restaurant meals we had in Nong Kiaw. The hotel is a 15-30min walk or 5 min bike ride to the bridge over the river and this area is where the majority of restaurants are. Plenty of options and some small markets as well. The pool area at the hotel is just divine. Peaceful and has the most spectacular backdrop. The gardens at the hotel are well maintained and the butterflies and birdlife is abundant. We spent time here everyday for a swim and to chill out after hiking or exploring.

A wonderful little oasis with a nice little pool and wonderful food, including many veggie options. The rooms were spacious and comfortable and had mosquito nets (but very few mosquitos). You can use bicycles for free and the staff is super nice and helpful regarding all kinds of questions we had. Definitely recommend to stay here a few days.
