Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

NetherlandsThis is a clean and nice hotel at the river. The rooms are nice and clean, the rooms are cleaned every day. Nice hot water and a comfortable bed. Breakfast is simple but fine. It’s near a really nice square. The only thing is that the staff are really unable to speak English. If you would like to book tours or bus tickets or anything, walk over to bamboo hostel, the owner is great and speaks fluent English. When we arrived in the middle of the night our check in was very difficult because the person who was there could not speak one work English and did not seem to able to write anything down to translate from Laos to English.

NetherlandsNot enough power sockets.
We stayed two nights in this hotel. First night I booked the standard room but that is really not a very nice room. It is small at the back with a view on a wall. The staff was friendly but could not speak any English and it was not very clear to us which language they did speak, that was a bit frustrating. We could leave our luggage in the hotel and the second night we booked a slightly bigger room. That room was perfect. Very clean. Breakfast and dinner including the service across the road was lovely!

United KingdomWe arrived in Thakek late and after a long bus journey from Vientiane; there was no one on reception and it took about 10 minutes to find someone to check us in. We also found that the room we had booked and paid for (top floor with balcony/view) had been given to another guest and our first night was in a ground floor at the back of the hotel with views of the backs of other buildings. We were moved the following day and after perseverance were offered 10% off the first night but the room should not have been given away in the first place. We had three nights here before doing the loop and then returned for one further night. We knew this time that we were to be in a standard room but found there were no tea/coffee facilities despite this being listed as available. When asking the staff, they told us that standard rooms do not come with a kettle etc. which is very poor for a hotel of this standard and price; we did finally get a kettle (taken from another room) but other guests we met in standard rooms did not and were not happy about this. The staff try their best but language is a barrier and the management need to address this to reduce/avoid frustrations. Communication with the hotel prior to arrival (e.g. by messages via Bookingcom) was very slow and full answers not provided.
The hotel is well positioned and generally good value for money if you get a room with a balcony on the top floor. Breakfasts were good but we were not offered the Lao food option for breakfast (soup/porridge) that other tourists were served. The restaurant attached to the hotel and overlooking the Mekong is excellent both in terms of position (wonderful sunset views over Thailand) and the food being served. Despite this (and what is written under 'what didn't you like' the Bouton d'or is worth staying at and we would return.

United KingdomStaff generally has NO SMILE day/night shift from reception > chamber maids > restaurant staff... Hotel newly changed hands in 2022, owned by Chinese investment? Overall not well trained team, i.e. NO information provided for onward transportation, tours etc. (boss is away in China for his New Year holiday), no city maps and knowledge of local tourist information (where?) Breakfast is just below sufficient portion; bar/restaurant across the road opens at 5:30 pm but the staff doesn't seem too happy to serve. Frozon pizza reheated, evening lights attracted too many insects; services truly slow.
Central location; twin room spacious enough for 2. Bar/restaurant offers excellent sunset view. Plenty of restaurants around the old French trading/administrative port. A lovely old town small enough to walk around and explore. Short river crossing to Thailand by ferry with visa extension service. BL Travel company highly recommended.

AustraliaThe rooms don't have electrical outlets so it's hard to charge devices. In the room we had, the bedside light (one only) did not work for the same reason. It would be ideal to add some more electrical outlets if possible.
Our stay at this hotel was really good it was a lovely location on the Mekong and had a very nice restaurant/bar across the road with great sunset views across the Mekong and a cute breakfast room next door with a nice garden. It was reasonably quiet. The bed was comfortable.

CanadaI have nothing negative to say, except that the noise from the street and dogs can be disturbing, especially if your room faces the main road. Also, the staff doesn’t speak English, so be patient.
Bouton d’Or is probably the best choice in Thakhek. With its French-inspired style and stunning view of the Mekong River, it stands out from other options in the area. The rooms are comfortable, and I found the staff welcoming and friendly.
