How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewHelpful front desk staff. Hotel with a lot of character and old school charm. Many Laos ornaments and trinkets giving the hotel a cared for feeling. We took a room with private balcony which was a nice space to relax in the evenings. We ate lunch in the restaurant when we arrived. It was very good.
Hotel is a little worn but that is part of the charm. Location a little far away from the western tourist spots but we hired a motorbike so it was a less than ten minute ride to get to the night market and tourist restaurants.

Verified reviewThis hotel is very much Lao style and they’ve worked hard to keep the history of the place. We loved the little attention to detail regarding the history of the property. We found the location ideal as it was walking distance for us to anywhere we wanted to be. The staff were excellent and very helpful. The rooms were clean and the pool was a great place for a dip after exploring. We thought it was excellent value for money. Considering you are around the corner to a very busy street, when chilling by the pool or in the restaurant you’d think you were in a little peaceful oasis! It can be noisy at night but the hotel provides ear plugs! This place worked for us for sightseeing and catching a breath from our travels.

Verified reviewThe staff were delightful. They could not have been more helpful and friendly. The rooms were spacious and spotlessly clean. I found the bed very comfortable, but my friend found it very hard. The food was excellent. Sitting dining outside on the verandah overlooking the pool was very relaxing. The pool was lovely, and we enjoyed a swim while we were there. The staff helped us to book a driver to our next destination. We really enjoyed our stay at the Chandara.
The location wasn't great, but you can't change that!

Verified reviewCharming Old School Hotel, tucked away on a Side Street, extremely helpful front desk and restaurant staff. We were made welcome the moment we entered the hotel with a beverage. From that moment forward they were very accommodating to all our questions. The front desk staff member was so helpful, even venturing to the train station in the evening to pick up an item that was not allowed on the train Luang Prabang. This was incredible and much appreciated.
WIFI could have been faster.

Verified reviewExcellent room and shower room. Breakfast was great too. Pool was a relief from the heat and staff were excellent. Close to airport (VTE) and a kok kok move terminal close by for travelling around the city.
Could be noisy late at night due to local Karaoke area but didn’t affect our stay. They also supply ear plugs if required.

Verified reviewhad such a world-class experience at Chandara Boutique Hotel, starting from the receptionist to the restaurant chef, and the ladies who take care of the cleanliness of the rooms. From day one, they welcomed me with kindness, love, and warmth. When I requested something, such as rescheduling my dates and asking for an extension on my stay, they went above and beyond to fulfill my requests. The hotel is located in a lovely neighborhood with restaurants around it. I will definitely come back, and I highly recommend it. Thank you to all the staff for their wonderful treatment and kindness. It was so nice staying there. I wish you all the best..♡♡♡"

Verified reviewGreat staff, most spoke ok English thankfully. Good breakfast and pool. Very helpful with local info.
Could be a bit noisy due to loud restaurants nearby but only up to around 11 or midnight. Quite far from centre (but close to airport)

Verified reviewHelpful staff, good food, comfortable room
Proximity of a restaurant. The first night there was a wedding on and the noise was so bad until 11.30pm we had to leave the hotel. The next day there was music again but no wedding so it wasn't so loud. However, the hotel leave ear plugs for the guests, in the room, so it must be a regular problem

Location a bit far from centre, but not a major issue. Loca app (for taxi) useful and fairly cheap.
