How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe free breakfast and coffee every morning was delicious, with lots of fruits. The location is excellent. The staff was helpful and accommodating. As noted on the website, you need to keep in mind that if you have a large suitcase, you won't be able to store all your luggage in your room. Valuable items can be stored in a small locker inside the room, large suitcases are placed in the hallway.

Verified reviewgood location, breakfast (even i didn’t have it)
small dorm, toilet with broken facilities
Small room (cheap accommodation cost), broken toilet (not broken - if it's broken, just ask the staff to fix it - if you don't tell them, no one will help you)

Verified reviewThe hostel is in a very good area, close to the palaces, cultural villages and right beside a metro line. The area is quiet, safe and immaculately clean. The free breakfast is good (toast eggs sausages cereals juices etc)
I don’t normally write reviews, let alone bad ones, but don’t feel like the reviews on booking are representative of our stay here, and really wouldn’t feel comfortable here as a solo female traveller. The rooms are absolutely tiny (beds one person width across from each other). there are signs to leave your luggage in the hallway outside your room (no security) because of lack of space. Not all the beds have curtains, and they are at head height, which is very awkward in such a tiny room. Our group were in 2 rooms, and neither of the bathrooms were cleaned across the 5 days we were there. The kitchen is awkwardly small at breakfast time and the owner is very particular about you using his kitchen (how plates should be stacked on the drying rack, where food should be placed on the table, told my sister she must have a dirty house because she left bubbles on a plate). We also accidentally came down early for breakfast and he huffed and puffed about us being there. Lastly, when other ladies we met here left a truthful review the owner emailed them a nasty email with hateful comments. Maybe he will do the same to me! It truely does not feel like he wants you in his home, and if I was travelling alone I would have felt uncomfortable. I would suggest you say somewhere on the metro line for the same price, and then just go into Insadong when required.
Breakfast is not included in the accommodation fee. However, I personally think it is well provided. - It is just a free service of the hostel.- Service is the heart of the giver. It is not the right of the receiver. I admit that the rooms, kitchen, etc. are all small. However, this accommodation is located in the most central area of Korea. - Then what??? Real estate prices are expensive. It is natural to have cleanliness in the kitchen. Untidy tables, dishes with foam, etc. I do not use those dishes, and I do not eat the untidy tables or the food that is lying around. - Other guests like you use and eat them. - Who would like that? - I do not care. And every accommodation has rules. Do you think you can go to a big hotel and go to the kitchen and search through the refrigerator and eat whatever you want when it's not mealtime? - Probably not. - You might be thinking, "What's wrong with a small hostel like this~~" - "I can do whatever I want in a small hostel like this..." Or maybe you didn't even think about it at all. The rooms are small and the kitchen is cramped - I also want to run a big place with plenty of space. - Then of course the accommodation fee you have to pay will be different. - Or you may not even think about choosing this place at all. The poor cleaning of the rooms and bathrooms, etc. is entirely my fault. - It is natural that I should check and manage the maintenance, cleaning, etc. of the building, but I am not doing it well - I am really sorry about that. And I understand the New Zealand grandmother's complaints to some extent. - But you don't know whose fault it is that the drain of the washing machine on the roof is leaking and the water is flowing to the floor. - I don't know if someone removed the hose of the drain or if the hose came off naturally. - However, if the hose is leaking like that, it is common human nature to let people know that water is leaking from the drain before washing. That New Zealand woman did that when she was doing her own laundry. As a result, as you saw, water was dripping from the roof to the first floor in the kitchen on the first floor. But I didn't tell the grandmother that it was her fault. - She complained to me about her own fault. - When providing free breakfast, I think it is normal for a normal person to expect that they are grateful for the free meal and that they ate well. However, neither the two grandmothers nor the three of you said that they had a good breakfast. There is nothing in life that is taken for granted. I also want to live with a smile. I don't want to live frowning. I have never frowned at someone first. -If I had, would I have been able to run the hostel for 12 years? My stress level is really high right now.

Verified reviewGood location. The host provides a free breakfast.. Includes coffee, toast, sausages, eggs, fruit and yoghurt. There is also a fridge where you can buy drinks (including beer) at prices cheaper than the local convenience store..just put the money in the honesty tin. Although the bedroom was cramped, there was room under the beds to store our bags. Good A/C and WiFi
We arrived an hour before 3pm, but there was no one around (except the cat) and we couldn't even store our luggage before check-in. We were on the third floor. Getting used to no lift on this trip, but the rickety banister on the upper staircase didn't give me a lot of confidence carrying my bag up the stairs. Further up (by more a ladder than stairs) is the "sun terrace" and self service washing machine (be sure to turn off the tap after doing the washing, as the water leaks all over the floor). The bathroom had black mould and a horrible smell which seemed to be coming from the drains. The top cover on the bed was made of an itchy synthetic material which was very uncomfortable. Message from owner after review: "I didn't tell you because I was afraid you'd be embarrassed by your stupidity and the fact that the washing machine on the roof leaked because of you. I'm happy that I won't be meeting horrible old ladies like you any time soon."
Two grandmothers who traveled from New Zealand, There is a Korean proverb that says, "When you get older, open your wallet and close your mouth." Even if you think your words are 100% true, others may not think so.

Not included in the room rate - breakfast, drinks Breakfast provided as a free service, free water in the breakfast area. I knew you'd do this. If you want to be welcomed, act welcome.

I didn't like the staff they weren't friendly, the room was very dirty and the shower didn't work properly
Sorry for the inconvenience. I remember you too. The free breakfast you received was enough to cover the cost of your stay. Your disgruntled face and your behavior of not being grateful at all for the free breakfast.

Verified reviewThe location is absolutely perfect and the owner is really nice and helpful.
We had a cockroach in our bathroom and my companion has entomophobia so we had to change to other location, also before that our rooms hairdryer started to smoke, and it’s on the wall so a bit scary, even tho we got new one from the owner.
Sorry for the inconvenience. This area is an old city with over 600 years of history. Most of the buildings are wooden buildings and restaurants. We are disinfecting every month, but there is a limit. All electrical devices in the world are not eternal. You never know when they will break down.
