How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe location is perfect by the river and we met a big family of elephant not far from the lodge and the last day even a leopard around that area. The staffs are super nice and friendly, always ready to help and very flexible with our request about food, room arrangement. When some of us in the team was not feeling well there were trying the best to support and even called a doctor. Definitely recommend this place to others
The neighbors next to my tent were noisy during the night, maybe the staffs could remind the guest to be mindful about other guests when it's sleeping time.

Verified reviewThe location was good in the park and a good pool area
All the rules around when the power cut-off times and the warm water shut-off at certain times, as well as general rules on when we should eat, and the menu was preset without prices forcing us to eat certain things. It also seemed like we were dictated to leave for safari and come back at certain times instead of letting it be up to the guests when we should be back.

Verified reviewBeautiful and well kept property that overlooks the river. Great room with plenty of amenities like hot water boiler. Staff was very nice
Management here is shady, lacks professional communication. They were unclear about pricing and found ways to upcharge for everything. Florence was one of the worst customer representatives we’ve dealt with in all of Africa as she continued to put the blame on me for not knowing how the pricing works even though none of the details were made clear anywhere on the booking profile. We then paid to go on a game drive for four hours which seemed very short but it actually only ended up being two hours and we barely saw anything. I highly recommend any of the other places in the Samburu reserve because it’s a beautiful setting, just don’t give these people your business.

Verified reviewThe staff were friendly and helpful at the hotel. Bed is comfortable and the facilities in the room are in good condition. The hotel is next to river bank and the elephants come to drink sometimes. We saw herds of elephants on the way back from game drive near the hotel.
The name of the hotel is quite misleading as we thought it's located in Samburu National Park, however it's actually in Buffalo Springs National Park, which means we need to pay $140 ($70 each park) to enter Samburu and which is about an hour drive from the hotel. Also the hotel is incredibly difficult to contact, the "headquarter" never respond your calls/ emails/ messages.

Verified reviewBread was not warm or taste fresh made. the other options were run of the mill. Freshly made omelette was the only good one.
Frequent power cuts citing generator supply of power. the tents were hot without ventilation and portable fan on request only. Without power the fan was useless. it was unbearably hot during 12 noon- 4 PM, no power. After 4 pm, every one goes out on the game drive. Hot water supply too is timed, if you miss that window you have to settle for a luke warm water. One important issue that disappointed me is - putting in me a tent far away from the river bank even though I put in a request at time of booking for a tent on the river bank. It was not honored. I was given a tent far away from the river bank, and irony is they did have unoccupied tents on the river bank.

Verified reviewlocation and staff were excellent.
generally quite dirty. ants were everywhere. pool was really murky. didn’t see anyone clean it the whole time we were there. double bed was tiny and really needed a mosquito net as we got bitten so much overnight.

Verified reviewReally loved the stay. The camp is in Buffalo Springs not Samburu but this was no problem - we had two days self drive safari in Buffalo Springs and Shaba and saw Lion, Cheetah and Leopard with the help of a ranger which Ashnil organised. Food and service was great. Great value for money.
Nothing

Verified reviewI like it’s not a buffet so everything is bought out on request and very happy to get more if wanted.
The bed covers didn’t cover the whole bed partly because the bed was so large would have been better to have two smaller covers than one that didn’t reach.

Verified reviewI liked the scenery and the room. We were able to spot a lot of elephants, which was very nice.
Extremely unprofessional manager named Daniel. I am a regular customer of booking.com and have stayed in multiple locations over the past few years but have never come across such unprofessional behavior from a manager. He asked us to pay the base fare although booking.com gave me a 10% discount. He didn't move an inch to fix this issue and held us captive until we payed the full amount. We were delayed by 1 hour and missed our next appointment at an elephant orphanage due to his negligence and lackadaisical attitude. I would like booking.com's team to escalate this with Ashnil's senior staff so that other customers don't face such issues in the future. Also. I request booking.com to refund the discount amount.
