Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Location was right across to Echigo Yuzawa train station. Careful about the incline going up to the entrance of hotel. Good breakfast spread. The outdoor onsen is amazing. The ryokan style room we had was out of this world. Staff was super polite and helpful (they remember every request we had). We had a wonderful time.

Everything!! The staff are lovely. Very welcoming and quick to help if you have any queries or questions. The hotel is big but comfortable and cozy. The onsens were simply amazing! So many to chose from! Both indoors and outdoors. Separate for male and female. The outdoor ones were beautifully landscaped in nature. It was never crowded during our stay. The cleanliness of the showers, change rooms at the onsens was impeccable. Everything was provided. High quality body wash, shampoos, skin cream and lotions ect... All you need to bring is your towel. It was the best part of my stay. Pure bliss😊 Breakfast and dinner package is a must! It exceeded our expectations. It was a lavish spread with so much variety! Our room had the tatami mattress. They were so comfortable. We even had a separate little indoor balcony with mountain views. Sitting there with a drink was simply delightful. There are massage packages offered at an extra cost. My husband and I each had one and we think it was the best one we ever had. The price was also very reasonable. The hotel provides free pick up and drop off at the train station, which is only a 2min walk away. From there, you can catch a free shuttle bus to GALA Snow Station for all your snow activities.

United StatesA little dated but well maintained. The town has a very warm, nostalgic historic feel to it so it didn’t really bother us. Plus the room was clean. The only thing that was a negative was the bathroom drain would back up sometimes and had a stench some days.
Excellent location, up a slight hill across from Echigo-Yuzawa station. They will pick you up, free of cost so you don’t have to lug your suitcases up the hill. Onsen (indoor/outdoor/private) were great. Breakfast & Dinner buffet somewhat pricey but with so many choices!!! We really enjoyed the make your own shabu-shabu , sushi station and the kids enjoyed the cheese and chocolate fondue stations. It was a mere 10minute walk to Yuzawa Kogen where we took snowboarding lessons, or you could catch the free shuttle bus (stop was right down the hill from the hotel). Staff always greeted us with a warm smile and made us feel welcome. We were a family of 5 (with three kids) and the Japanese -style family room had a very nice mountain view with the main room fitting 3 futons and the small bedroom with the remaining 2. We opted to forgo daily room cleaning but the housekeeping staff replenished our towels, yukatas and amenities daily. If visiting Yuzawa we would definitely stay again!

SingaporeDinner option was buffet style. Would have loved if they offered the dinner set options instead. Room furnishing feels a bit dated. Other than that, nothing much to not like about the hotel.
Staff were very friendly and helpful. Very near Echigo-Yuzawa train station, but on uphill, so when it snows/icy, can be slippery. Can contact hotel for shuttle to/fro hotel-train station. Loved the view from the room. Room was well-heated, just need to open the sliding doors abit for cool air if it gets too warm. Liked that the room had a full functional ensuite toilet and bathtub, even though the hotel had public baths too (indoor, outdoor and sauna). We tried the massage and private baths too (additional charge). They would also provide us a different local snack in the room every day to try. Hotel also had a mini convenience/souvenir shop and the Yamato, which was very convenient for luggage forwarding service.

United StatesFurnishing a USB outlet or power strip/splitter would have been helpful, especially for a group sharing a room where everyone has a device needing to be charged, since outlets were few in some parts of the room. A hot water/tea in the lobby/lounge would have been nice (they do have a coffee machine there)
Location and views are very nice. Staff is great and very helpful. Building and furnishings are older but very well kept in great condition. Very close to JR station, as well as a number of attractions, restaurants, and ski resorts in Yuzawa. I would definitely stay here again in the future.

The food at breakfast and dinner was varied and exceptional. All of the dishes I tried I liked , and they had a nice variety of western and Japanese. The room we had was huge and very comfortable. The onsen facilities were excellent, and very well kept. We are skiers and this hotel was very well setup for skiers. They have locker rooms for storage as well as changing, and on checkout day you can leave all your luggage , go ski, come back and change and then leave. But what makes this hotel a standout is the staff. I speak limited Japanese but had no issues communicating with the staff either speaking directly to them or using google translate. They are kind, patient and will do anything to help you. On checkout day, we went skiing and came back at 11:30 and needed to use the courier service taqubin which is conveniently located inside the hotel gift shop. However, we failed to notice beforehand that the shop takes a close break from 11:30 until 3:30 and our train leaves at 3;15. We were very stressed but the lady who runs the store and handles the courier said no problem, she would stay open just for us and give us time to change out of our ski clothes ,repack our ski gear and come back. It took us longer than we thought to repack and change because we had some trouble locating the ski bag as it was behind the counter in long storage. It didn’t matter, she still waited and when we finally finished she patiently helped us with the forms and everything was handled . When we left again for the station we had some time to wait so we purchased some small sweets and went back to give them to the staff as a thank you for all their exceptional efforts and help with our stay . They seemed genuinely surprised and happy and then walked out to wave us goodbye! How nice and a great happy surprise for us! We cannot recommend this hotel enough and we will be back someday.

SingaporeEchigo Yuzawa is getting more popular for winter sports and it is getting harder to book a room for a continuous stretch of 4 to 5 days. Well, that is not your fault. Its a good problem for the local business.
As usual, breakfast was good. But buffet dinner was just fabulous. We miss it so much the day we have to move to another hotel because this hotel was fully booked. This is our go-to hotel every time we visit Echigo Yuzawa for a ski holiday. It has nice onsen too. The location is great. You can see the hotel from the West Exit of the train station. However, it is up on a slope and it will be more convenient to call the hotel for a pick up so you do not need to drag your luggage there.

Hong KongWalking up the slope with luggage maybe little difficult if road was little icy, snowing. Else everything else was good
This hotel has the best location , walkable from echigo station, and close proximity to many restaurants and nearby ski slopes. Hotel breakfast was good , wide spread. We tried their dinner buffet, it was very good too though little over priced. The best part was the onsen, loved the outdoor onsen in the snow, wasn’t too crowded. Morning was empty.
