Having the space to ourselves, it’s also pretty spacious by Japanese standards with the outdoor space as well as the kitchen and laundry. Short walk to a big empty swim beach!

It’s quite old and a little dated, in need of some maintenance and updates to bring it back to its former glory. Although the property was not too far from the beach walking back up the hill and stairs was hard in the hot weather, in other words after cooling off in the ocean expect to be sweaty by the time you get back to the apartment!

Wonder space for relaxing and recharging the batteries. The host kindly met us from the station and were always happy to help when we needed it. We slept better here than any of our hotels, some being 5*, but nothing compares to XXUFO

The property was very difficult to find. It looked like a building site. The photos had been misleading. We thought we would have a wide view of the sea, but the window had been changed and so the view was limited. In the photos, there appeared to be a swimming pool. There was no pool. In the photos, there was a jacuzzi- this was a mouldy inflatable. There's no breakfast, so people need to be warned that the property is up a very steep hill and so they need to be armed with their breakfast and evening provisions before they make the hard trek up the hill.

The setting is up a steep wooded hillside and next to an amazing circular building like from a James Bond film. There is a steep narrow drive up to the parking space. The building is spacious and has all facilities for a comfortable stay. There is one large living and sleeping area, with chairs and table. Mats and futons are provided for as many people need them. There is a raised sleeping platform with a spectacular view of the bay and beach. There is a separate kitchen. The owner is an artist who lives in the circular main building. He was very friendly and helpful, making it clear we were free to use any of the various terraces on the hillside and even to enter his house to enjoy the view in the afternoons (but if he is out the door is locked). We greatly enjoyed watching the sunset from a terrace with a couple of beers. There is an excellent small Aeon supermarket 15 mins walk to the south. One of our group went on a diving trip in Atami. A good tip for parking is a basic car park near the harbour (Atamikoumizurishisetsu Parking Lot) which costs only ¥500 for the whole day.

It wasn’t a problem for me to drive my small rental car up the steep access drive and manoeuvre it into the garage, but the owner came out to help as he was nervous about his car 😅 This might be a problem for someone not used to driving a car in tight spaces. A large car would be rather difficult - it would be better to find parking at the bottom of the hill.

Very friendly hosts, they picked me up from the station when I could not find the place. They also invited me to their family barbecue which was really kind.

This is sooo huge!! We loved staying here! Another good thing is this is independent, so you can speak as loudly as you can!!!! And the best thing of all is that the owner is kind, caring, and playful:)

Really quirky place with tons of character. Owned by an artist and has a cool, bohemian vibe. One thing to note is that you don’t stay in the UFO - that’s the family home. You stay in an annex next to it. But the pictures of the tatami raised platform and view of the coast from the window are exactly what you get. A huge space by Japanese standards. The hosts are incredibly friendly, welcoming and helpful - despite our language gap!

The location was amazing. We had orange trees growing full of fruit. The ocean breeze. The most beautiful sun rise.

The owner is very kind. She went out of her way to find us a restaurant the night we arrived.

We had great difficulty finding the accommodation, even with the GPS in the car. We had to wait a long time before they decided to come and get us. Access by car is narrow and the parking space is tight. We found a dead insect (scutigera) in the bedroom and other living insects such as a huge spider in the toilets. The kitchen is old. We didn't see an outdoor bath as the advert suggests. You can hardly see the sea from the flat. The photos are very misleading. The building in the shape of a flying saucer is the owner's accommodation and we were unable to go there. The rental price is far too high for the service.
