This place is spectacular and it’s the second time we booked. If you are looking for a traditional Japanese inn/hotel this is the place to stay!! I would recommend this to anyone, it is by far the best place we stayed in Japan! I would like to make a special mention to Koike Takahiro who looked after us! He was the most fantastic host and staff member, he did so much to help us and make our stay amazing, he was just incredible! Don’t hesitate to book this place you won’t be disappointed it’s is phenomenal!

It was all fantastic, there was nothing to not like!

Very good, the waiters are very enthusiastic, and the scenery is extremely beautiful.

    I forgot my facial mask.

Great facilities. Excellent location. Modern and clean ryokan room that keeps the traditional spirit.

No restaurant or bar service on the day I stayed. This is usually an important part of a Ryokan experience, so cannot be understated. This wasn’t only conveyed after the booking was made.

    Property response:

Thank you very much for taking the time to share your feedback. As we are a small ryokan, and in order to ensure the freshness of our ingredients, we keep only a limited stock of food. Therefore, we kindly ask our guests to contact us in advance if they wish to add meals to their reservation. (Even if we don’t hear from guests in advance, we still try our best to accommodate meal requests depending on the situation on the day.) We sincerely apologize that we were unable to provide meal service on the day of your stay. We appreciate your understanding and will continue to make improvements so that our guests can fully enjoy the ryokan experience we aim to offer. Thank you very much for your valuable feedback.

Amazing Ryokan experience! The house was spacious and beautiful. The outdoor onsen were beautiful with the nice garden background. There’s also another indoor onsen if you prefer indoor. Amazing traditional Japanese style breakfast. We had a wonderful time and will definitely come back to this place

When we arrived we were welcomed with matcha tea and a traditional desert which were refreshing after a very long journey. The room was outstanding, exactly like in the pictures, loved the traditional Japanese style. In the room we had everything we needed from toiletries to coffee maker. The room was clean, had AC in case we were cold, the bed was comfy and it had a view to the garden. The Ryokan was quiet, perfect for a few days of relaxation. We especially loved the yukatas. The view to the central garden was everything we had hoped for. The main star for us was the private onsen which was accessible directly from the shower. The kaiseki breakfast and dinner were amazing. The staff even adapted the menu to our dietary needs, for example we couldn't eat raw fish and they were happy to change some of the ingredients. The restaurant is cozy and elegant and all the tables have privacy. The staff was kind and helpful throughout our entire stay. The neighborhood was quiet, clean. There are several hikes you can take in the nearby woods. From some of them you can even see Mount Fuji. A true Ryokan experience.

The onsen water and the private baths (indoor & outdoor) in the room were wonderful! The villa was spacious and clean. Staff were friendly and pleasant. Overall enjoyed the stay!

The ADDITIONAL dinner charge of ¥25,000 per person was absurd. I didn't check the price so when I saw the bill, I was surprised. The meal was good, but not superb. Next time, I will book without meals and explore local restaurants.

Very nice and cool place for quiet stay and Japanese garden and culture experience

I don’t like the way front desk works. They don’t allow any changes to plan. English is also a problem to understand each other properly.

Breakfast is super good and worthy 5000 yen, but remember to book everything in person NOT SUR BOOKING.COM. I feel like the person who responded me via gmail actually not works in Oni no Sumika, because the staff there apparently was aware of nothing mentioned in email.

Dinner is def not worthy 25000yen/person so I will not suggest booking it. The staff really tried his best to contact with me via translation, however, he misunderstood a lot of things which was kinda annoying. Moreover, my room wasn't cleaned the day before I left, the staff said bc of shortage of cleaning ppl, which made no sense to me.

    Property response:

Dear Guest Thank you very much for your valuable feedback. The room is beautiful and full of characters, there is a lovely garden too where you hear the frogs, you really get to experience traditional aesthetic and atmosphere there. The room did feel quite big for a solo traveller. The staff are very attentive and helpful, Yamada san speaks excellent Chinese which makes the communication smooth, they also went out of their way to make arrangements for me to visit various places. The food was also very thoughtful and fresh.

Very beautiful and so many nice design details. The food was outstanding. Very professional service.

Mind the frogs in the garden that get it going pretty loud in June. But if you have ear plugs or ear buds you’re good.

The room was amazing. The property is beautiful. The staff was very friendly, helpful, polite and welcoming. The atmosphere is serene and relaxing.

No breakfast or dinner available unfortunately. Also no flower class as advertised. It seems they had delivery issue / staff on holidays for those services. It was a thursday.

    Property response:

Dear guest, Thank you very much for your kind words regarding our room, the property, and our staff. We're truly honored by your appreciation. We sincerely apologize that breakfast, dinner, and the flower arrangement class were not available during your stay. These services usually require a reservation at least one day in advance, as we need time to prepare the necessary ingredients and flowers, and to coordinate staff schedules including chefs, servers, and the ikebana instructor. We appreciate your understanding and hope to welcome you again in the future with all services available. Warm regards, Oninosumika

The property was clean, beautiful and the onsen was really relaxing. Everything was very well kept and breakfast was delicious. Staff, despite having limited English were great at still managing to communicate with us properly by other means, and were really friendly. One man even gave us a list of recommended restaurants around the area when dinner was not available for our particular booking :)

It is quite the uphill walk from the main attractions like the temple and bamboo forest but if you are keen on having a nice refreshing walk it should not be a problem as it was not for us.

I can't give enough compliments to the staff of this location. They were all super friendly and helpful to a group of Americans that spoke super broken Japanese. On both nights, the crew went above and beyond to call over the course of several hours in order to get us reservations in town. They really worked very hard to take care of us. I love the in-room onsens. They have a window that let's in air from the outside, and a shower attached so you don't get in dirty and you can get some nice relaxation time. I was skeptical at first because this was the most expensive leg of our trip, but it was worth every penny.

There is nothing I didn't like about this facility. Westerners will likely find it difficult to use a mattress on the ground like we did at first, and it takes a while to find the Air Conditioner. You may also not be able to adjust the heat in the Onsens. Some did, some didn't.

Beautiful ryokan with a stunning garden. The amenities in the room were very nice (husband really enjoyed the nespresso coffee). Staff, service, onsen, everything was amazing. We felt like the king and queen during our stay.
