Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

IrelandThe owner was lovely and welcoming! Good location just down the hill from the ski slopes. You can also buy ski passes which is handy!

United StatesIt is a short walk from the main part of town, but very close to a ski lift.
Breakfast was fantastic. The gear room is spacious and made storing and drying gear really easy.

CanadaThe futons were a bit thin and we followed the advice in other reviews and brought our own pillows.
The mother and son staff were very kind and attentive. The location was a few hundred meters from a lift ticket window and a lift that brings you to the Nagasaka gondola after a short ski down. I will be back next year.

AustraliaI unfortunately suffered a leg injury so walking was difficult. The location is an easy walk from the town Centre if you are able and a tricky one if you are not able as there is no public transport option after 6:00 p.m. Our hosts were able to drive us into town for dinner but we had to walk home.
If you are in Japan to be in Japan, this is an excellent place to stay. The breakfasts were very good and very traditional. The whole place was fastidiously clean. The soaking bath is small but the guest house does not have a large number of guests so I found myself the only one in there each time I used it. The drying room is the best we have found in any place in any country. It has very easy access to a chairlift without queues to access the mountain.

PortugalLocation super close to a ski lift and also super close to a good ski rental place, 15minutes from the center but there are nice restaurants 5min away. Bus stop nakao is 5min away as well. The owner provided us cheaper ski passes and also a discount for the ski rental! It has a washing machine and great dry room. Also has a good small onsen for the guests. Will be back for sure :)

New ZealandThe indoor slippers provided, while convenient, we found them a tad uncomfortable and a little difficult to keep on our feet when using the stairs.
We loved our stay at Villa South Fuji (VSF). Our hosts were super friendly. The breakfasts were plentiful and delicious. When we booked we were a little worried about the location (e.g. distance from the snow resort and ski hire etc) however, we could purchase our lift tickets at VSF and at a discounted rate. Additionally, there is a great ski hire (Thanx) located a short walk from VSF, and we got a discount there also because we were staying at VSF. There is a lift across the road from the ski hire place and from there you can ski down to the gondola, so we didn't need to use the bus or walk very far at all.

New ZealandWe used spare duvets as pillows - as others have noted, the pillows are not what most are used to.
The proprietors (mother and son) of this property are exceptional. Very attentive, friendly and helpful. The breakfast (small additional cost) was delicious and substantial - ideal to start a day on the slopes! Ski hire and chair lift are a very short walk just up the road. The hotel has a drying room so your boots are warm and dry in the morning. There are restaurants and onsen 5-10 mins walk away. The hotel is surrounded by farmland (covered in snow when we were there) with great views. Given the access to the ski field and views it was more convenient than being right in town (15 min walk to the centre) in some ways.

CanadaIt’s about a 15 minute walk to restaurants and the cute parts of Nozawa. Breakfast is not included. I wish I asked to purchase breakfast because it looked like they made breakfast for other guests. We ate breakfast at Snow Fox next door but it looked like similar quality to what Snow Fox made.
It’s very close to Nozawa Onsen resort. The boot room dried out my ski gear very well. My boots were warm to put on! It was such a treat. The rooms and whole building were very clean. The staff carried in our heavy bag. We booked a standard room and it was very spacious and had a great view of Nozawa Onsen. The hosts really went out of their way to make sure we had a pleasant stay.

AustraliaThe only two things to note are that after a few days you should keep your door open from time to time to keep the room aired, and the traditional Japanese pillows can be a bit hard. I was ok with the pillows but my wife used her travel pillow instead.
It’s so close to an awesome chairlift. It’s practically ski in/out, if you use the nearby ski rental place. The owners have great deals with both ski rental and lift tickets. The rooms are warm. Despite being a shared bathroom, the facilities are much more convenient and comfortable than I thought they’d be. The owners are lovely and always helpful. The onsen was pretty private, so I had shower and bath to myself each day.

AustraliaFutons were a bit thin here for me. Stayed at 2 other places before here, and they had a bit thicker and comfier futons to sleep on.
Very friendly hosts. Good sized room for 2 guests. Room and shared toilets/baths were clean and tidy. Dry room was good for snowboard gear. They were happy to hold our luggage while we went snowboarding on our last day of stay till the afternoon.

New ZealandBe prepared for the pillows - but the futons are great 😊
The location is amazing for access to ski lifts- can walk in all your gear and be on the chairlift 5 minutes later! Bit more of a walk to the village but nice to wander the streets. Amazing hosts who helped with booking snow monkeys, lift passes and ski hire. They were amazing. We loved the onsite onsen at the end of each day and there are many others in the village.

AustraliaSlightly further from the slopes than other properties, however still very walkable and very close to the Nozawa Onsen Liner stop. As some have mentioned, the pillows may not be to everyone’s taste, however I personally had no issues sleeping on them at all.
Without a doubt the hospitality of Mazu and Takeru was a standout. Always on hand to give assistance and advice and ensure that their guests were looked after, the care and warmth of this mother son duo made for the most amazing stay. Mazu’s breakfasts were amazing with the attention to detail and variety on offer, I always left for the slopes full! The Villa itself is cozy, impeccably clean and the hot bath is perfect at the end of a ski day if you don’t feel like braving the public onsens. Rooms are comfortable with a good amount of space, and I actually found the futons very comfortable for sleeping. The value for money was amazing, to have such hospitality and breakfasts quite close to the skiing action is unbeatable. I would stay here again in a heartbeat and would highly recommend to anyone looking for a great skiing experience in Nozawa.

New ZealandOnly a couple of minor negatives. The pillows weren’t very comfortable, but no biggie. And showers part of the hot bath set up, but again not a deal breaker. Loved our stay here.
Was quite a late booking, but this place was just perfect. 300m from lift, easy stroll into town post slopes, good sized room. But the real highlight were the wonderful hosts. Such wonderful people. Whilst unsure of other options in area. Would definitely consider re booking in future.

AustraliaThe hosts were perfect! I’ve never experienced the type of quality service they provided. So accomodating, helpful, and all round good people. As soon as we arrived, we were greeted at the door. They immediately carried our bags in (and mind you, they were quite large suitcases), washed and dried all the wheels off the bags, and carried them up the stairs to our room. We were then served freshly cut apples and coffee. We also had a tour around the property to know where everything was. As you go around the place, you’ll notice small things they provided to ensure their guests had what they needed. Even though it had a shared bathroom and toilet, they made sure you had what you needed everywhere - slippers, bins, paper towels, paper cups at the sink etc. you don’t notice these things until they’re missing. We had A LOT of questions generally about being in Japan and the hosts helped as much as they could. The ski lifts and rental shops are also a few doors down. Such a convenient spot. Hands down would return to this place.

The service at this place is top tier. Everything was amazing and clean. The owners are the sweetest people and definitely made the whole experience one of the greatest memories for us. The location is a five minute walk to one of the ski hills and you get discounts if you buy lift tickets at the property. Note that you should bring cash with you.

SingaporeThe shuttle services within the village ends at 5pm, hence there wasn’t any other way to get to “town” except by walking which took about 15-20 min. Not too far of a walk but if you’re looking for food options it may be a little hard
This family run stay is very close to the ski lift, with a ski rental shop on the way. We absolutely loved the breakfast prepared every morning which gave us fuel for our daily skis! Even though the bathroom was shared, everything was very clean and the nightly onsen was god sent
