Real Bookers. Real stays. Real opinions.
Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

SingaporeNot much else to do nearby, especially if you don't come by car, so would need to plan around that.
Nice room with a great view. Fantastic service bu the staff even though we had trouble communicating in English - tanslate apps are your friend here. Onsens are a treat, both the one in your room (which is a comfortable temperature) and the separate private onsens which you can make (free) reservations to use (which can be quite a bit hotter). Got the half board, which included a fantastic Japanese style dinner and breakfast, which were prepared beautifully and tasted amazing. The day booking came with free flow drinks during the day which I used liberally.

United StatesI would mention that the private bath area had quite a few mosquitoes, which made it difficult to use comfortably at night. With a bit of pest control, this could be a perfect experience.
I recently stayed at Ruykan and had a fantastic experience. The location was beautiful, set amidst stunning natural scenery, which made for a peaceful and relaxing environment. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and well-appointed, offering everything needed for a cozy stay. The staff were friendly and always willing to assist, making the check-in and check-out processes smooth and welcoming. One highlight was the food; the variety and quality exceeded my expectations, and each meal felt crafted with care. Overall, I highly recommend Ruykan to anyone looking for a quiet retreat in a beautiful setting!

JapanThe beddings are not very comfortable. They need to be upgraded. The mattress is too hard and uneven. The pillows are lumpy and uneven.
We had kaiseki meals for dinner and breakfast. All were superbly presented and delicious. Our room has a very nice ocean view and has two onsen baths (one outdoor; one indoor). We also enjoyed the hotel's large public bath which we reserved for private use. Location-wise, the hotel is just a 10-minute walk from Ajiro Station, but the roads going there are very steep so walking would have been difficult. But the hotel provided shuttle service. The hotel staff are very polite and accommodating.

United StatesExtras (additional food and drinks, or bath reservations) can be ordered via a QR code, but all of the information is in Japanese. This was not a problem for us, but if you aren't semi-fluent you might have a little trouble ordering. Most of it can be translated on your phone using Chrome or DeepL, but it would be helpful if there was an English option.
We had a fantastic time here! The staff was very welcoming and helpful, and the food was delicious. We really enjoyed the private baths and the incredible view from each one. Our room was very spacious and comfortable, and very clean. I'm super glad we stayed here. It was perfect!

SingaporeIf you are driving a rental car, the slope heading up to the property is steep and road is narrow and windy. consider taking the property transport instead of self drive .
The architecture is amazing as each level is built on different slope of the mountain. Although this is not a new hotel. the management has kept the property clean and makes one feels like it is home cum leisure.

United StatesOur private indoor bath stopped filling/heating at one point and the staff were able to fix it after our dinner. However, it was too hot after the fix. The mattresses felt a bit hard for our liking so we put the futons on top of them which was perfect.
Uminohana was a great escape from the city with beautiful views and delicious food. They pick you up in a van from the adorable Ajiro train station and take you up the hill. The staff were very nice, knowledgeable, and patient with our lack of Japanese language skills. We stayed in one of the villas that had private indoor and outdoor baths which was an incredible experience as the other baths need to be booked. If you don't book quickly you will end up with 11pm or later bath time. The terrace bath has incredible views of the bay and there are free alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks available. They are also very generous with the time you get to stay there (1.5 hours). One of us had a seafood allergy and the kitchen was GENEROUSLY accommodating. My first dinner had SO much delicious beef options that I felt bad I could not finish all of them. I messaged them to reduce the amount of food to not be wasteful and they obliged. I had one of the best steaks here that reminded me of my experience in Kobe. If you're up for it, venture down into the town. There is a Family Mart close by for some lunch-time snacks, but be prepared for the climb back up the hill. There are some cute confectionary and resale shops near the station and make sure to stop by for a snack and coffee at kabocha cafe across from Ajiro station.

Australiaprivate hot spring bath in our room overlooking the bay and two additional private hot spring baths on the property. the omakase dinner and breakfast was amazing and the staff were patient and kind as it was our first traditional ryokan experience. For western travellers: it’s good to know some Japanese to communicate and use a translation app if you get stuck
