Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

ChinaThe hosts made us feel like we were staying with family. They were friendly, communicative and went out of their way to make sure we felt welcome. Breakfast was provided by a local Chef (delivered to the door each morning in a basket) and excellent - often enough left over to serve as lunch as well.

GermanyYou absolutely do need a car, so if you don’t have one it will be very difficult to get around. Despite what google says, there are no supermarkets, cafes or restaurants anywhere nearby and if they are, they are closed. The property comes with a dishwasher and washing machine but there was no washing powder which was a bit of a shame.
We came here to relax by the sea after a busy Japan round trip. The property was ideal for doing that and we absolutely loved the two private beaches and kayak that came with the house!

United StatesAn absolute paradise. Spacious guesthouse with comfortable furniture, massive outdoor spaces and TWO private beaches. We were so happy staying here. It's also a great spot to explore the North part of the island from. Host is kind and communicative.

NetherlandsNothing. Note that you do need a car if you would like to go to a restaurant (and availability of restaurants is not always as reliable). This did not bother us though. We had a very nice lunch recommendation (lovely lady nearby!) and found our way in the evenings as well.
Superb location, with a private beach, SUPs available (use them also when the wheather is so-so!) and lovely host/owner.

United KingdomWe liked everything about this spacious property. It’s in a great location with its own private garden and beach. The accommodation has everything you need and the hosts, who live nearby, were fantastic and helped us organise kayaking, helped when we had an issue with a hire car and introduced us to local cultural events.

United KingdomWe had a really amazing stay. The house is comfortable, clean and very spacious for 2 people. The hosts are absolutely lovely and helped us organise taxis and sort out our food shop on our first day (we don't drive so had worried a bit about this, but it was all totally fine). The location was incredible - the beach is absolutely stunning and it was really special to have it all to ourselves. We had a memorable, relaxing time and we'd love to stay here again if we could!

United KingdomThe recycling was a-bit tricky however we were told by the owners not to worry too much about it.
Tsundara Beach Retreat was so beautiful, it was on the North West coast where you see the most spectacular sunsets. The retreat was set among palm trees and had its own private beach, it was so secluded and unspoilt. The beach was so quiet you could just hear the waves lapping into the shore. They had kayaks and paddle boards so we took those out a few times which was great fun, we got to kayak to more private beaches. The stay was very comfortable and plenty big enough for just the 2 of us, a family would be comfortable here too. Highly recommend this fantastic retreat, it has a very special place in our hearts.

NetherlandsI found it quite expensive, and be sure to pack some food as there really aren't any shops.
Lovely host and location, the beach is amazing and snorkelling is really great... just a few minutes from the beach starts beautifully colourful coral.

United StatesIt was a mistake to stay here without renting a car (in fairness, the hosts did recommend renting a car when asked about transportation). It is really in the middle of nowhere. Taxis to any restaurant to sample local cuisine or to activities like Kabira Bay, for example, will cost $40-$50 each way and take more than 45 minutes, not to mention needing at least an hour's warning time if leaving from the villa so that the taxi can get there. Taxi apps don't work from the villa, so if you don't speak Japanese / can't make phone calls in Japan, you also have to rely on the hosts to call one for you- adding more time to the process. Overall, you won't be having a relaxed island-vibe vacation if you need to plan your transportation so thoroughly. Rent a car, plan to never leave once you arrive (cooking all your own meals and only doing beach/kayaking at the villa itself), or don't stay here. Also, note that it is not quite as private as it seemed. The main back lawn and the beach are shared with another vacation rental, though it was empty when were there in the December off season, and they are also easily accessible from the host's house right nearby. The hosts could see us from their house when we were outside, for example. From reading the description/reviews I thought it would be more of a truly private experience.
Hosts are great, very helpful in arranging what we needed for our stay. We enjoyed using the kayak and could see some coral reefs not far from shore. We would consider staying here again someday.
