Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

CanadaThere's really nothing negative to say about this property or the hospitality of the owner.
The owner was very accommodating to prepare vegetarian meals for my wife, and not charging me for the beer either! They had a community donation box on the front desk so we sent the beer money there instead.

NetherlandsFor the price a nice ryokan experience. Why not a high end ryokan it has all the necessary ingredients for a nice stay. Friendly lady willing to help, nice clean tatami mats and nice breakfast. There is a private bath that is shared with the other guests so you could have to wait for it. While not really an onsen, it is a nice and big bath for you to relax. Location is also close to the station

ItalyThe room was really big and comfortable, the staff was really nice, the lady at the reception has also recommended us a good kobe restaurant in the city centre that met our expectations and they also let us leave the luggages in the hotel while we went to the animal kingdom. Highly recommended.

United KingdomSome hairs on the tatami mats, could have been a little cleaner
The lady in charge was so nice although we had some issues with the language barrier, she was still able to give me all of the information, she also actively used her translation app to give me some more info, which was very helpful. The food was spectacular, and the whole stay was so cheap. Dinner was 5 courses and breakfast was 2/3. I had a great time and would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Kobe!

United StatesThe one thing I wasn't a fan of was the shower/washrooms. Specifically there was an allotted time for showers and baths on the floor I was staying on. I believe it was 17:00-24:00. It wasn't very clear why this was the case, but I assume it has something to do with the hot water availability. I was traveling in the middle of August, where Japan is at its most humid, and multiple showers a day are something I feel like I need as a traveler who is constantly on walking around. But it may be different for different floors, and they may allow some exceptions. I really wasn't sure on the details.
This was a great experience. The owners are super friendly, and the room I booked was very spacious, which I appreciated. Not to mention that in addition to being friendly, the owners were very helpful as well, one of the older gentlemen working there helped me figure out how to use the AC controls, as they were all in Japanese.

United KingdomThe breakfast was really delicious. There was homemade katsuobushi flakes, alongside a traditional washoku set. My Japanese is very poor, but the owner was really kind. She could speak English, as well as slow/ easy Japanese, which was great as a new language learner. The bedroom was simple, but there was free green tea, and all of the appliances worked well. The air conditioner, futon and seats all did their jobs! I would highly recommend this place to any visitor, from inside or outside of Japan.

United KingdomIt wasn't the most clean place in the world- found some hairs on the bedding and floor upon our arrival and there was a balcony but it didn't look like anyone had touched it in years. Staff were nice but didn't speak great English so they didn't manage to find a way to explain to us that clearly the check out process or the doors closing at night so we were a bit confused. Futon beds are tricky to get used to but not too uncomfy. The pillows were kind of strange too (felt like straw or hay or something) but was cool to experience as long as you are prepared for something different.
A very cool experience staying in a traditional Japanese room for the first time. We really appreciated the tea pot and water heater, fridge and access to the microwave in the corridor. The location was also great and only a few mins (up a steep road!) from a train station. We paid extra to have our own bathroom and it was money well spent.

It was a hidden gem. its a guesthouse right in the shopping street. it felt like the guesthouse had 3 houseparts. the main room was full of dark wooden furniture, the cooking place and with a water dispenser. then you had to follow a small corridor with different wallpaint to your room. the facilities were one floor lower. a very nice and helpfull host.

Very great ryokan style room next to a station and near good spots of the city (convenient store, china town, shopping era, not far from the Kobe flower garden). The room is clean, the common bath is very big and clean, same for the common toilets.

ChinaI didn't like the thin futon and the thick bean pillow. They are a little hard for my body type. I don't like the shower and sink tab are leaky. It made it hard for me to adjust the shower water at first, so maybe just a reminder for the guest before hand will solve the problem.
I like the authentic Japanese family atmosphere and the close location to the Harbor and Kobe tourist center and Chinatown. It is indeed the best place to be for traveling to Kobe for the first time. I also like that I can leave my luggage at the location early. I like the numerous rooms for option. I love the spacious rooms in Wafuku style.

FranceNot much it was what we expected. Not a place for those who don't want to sleep on a futon. We loved it.
Very traditional Japanese hotel with futons. The staff were lovely and there was everything we could have wished for in the room. The location is really good between Motomachi and Kobe (Hyogo) stations. Handy for train transport and subway. It's an interesting area with funky shops and restaurants.
