How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewPeople working and staying here were so friendly and helpful all the time! Very comfy and homely, exactly what you want from a hostel. Everyone respected quiet hours which was very appreciated after big days out! The location is perfect for exploring all of Hiroshima, walking distance from most places I wanted to see, with buses, trams and trains only a 2 minute walk!

Verified reviewThe location was great. Easy access. The check in was an easy process. The WiFi was good and the game facilities were stocked up with anything you’d need (even the kitchen)
The pillow is the most uncomfortable I’ve ever used. It’s filled with beads and really stiff/rigid.

Verified reviewGood location close to the park and relatively close to the station. The staff was really friendly.
Mixed dorm has way too many beds and there's no space for luggage or moving around. There is only one AC for the whole room, meaning it was boiling hot during the night. Very strong sweat smell 24/7. There are only two toilets for the entire hostel. Pillows were filled with some kind of plastic and were very hard and uncomfortable. The curtains don't really cover the whole bed, so there was lots of light coming in and no privacy at all.

Verified reviewThis is my first time to stay at a hostel in Japan. I cannot compare my experience in this hostel with somewhere else but at least I met very friendly staff here and enjoyed talking with them and some other guests.

Verified reviewOn July 4, the gentleman at the reception desk in the morning was helpful and friendly, but did not offer free towels. The female employee at the reception desk in the afternoon was also nice and quiet. Gave us space to eat and relax while she worked the whole time. The location is quite convenient. Walking distance to the bus center and the A-Bomb Dome. On July 5, we were able to leave our luggage next to the front door until 4:00 PM. We enjoyed every last minute of our stay.
There was a super narrow staircase outside that made it very difficult to lift luggage. Quite dangerous for women with large bags. Also, there was not much room for luggage next to the room.

Verified reviewOn June 16, the female employee in the morning was helpful and friendly. The hostel was clean enough. One of the showers was clean. The location is very convenient. You can walk to the bus center for Hiroshima Airport and the Hiroshima Atomic Bomb Dome.
There was a super tight staircase outside that made it very difficult to lift our luggage. One of the showers was clean, but the other smelled strongly of garlic. The hallway also smelled badly of garlic. The female employee in the afternoon was not nice, she and her guests sat at a table and couch in a small common area for half a day, over 8 hours. We had to stay in bed the entire time after a long flight.

Verified reviewSmall and cozy hostel so it was easy to make friends. Very friendly staff. I felt right at home during my 3 nights there. Clean, good facilities and good location.
The beds were oddly loud, not a huge problem but had to be extra quiet if moving around in bed.

Verified reviewEvergreen Hostel was so homely and cozy; the perfect place to stay during my travels. The staff were very friendly. Silvie and Matty were helpful with their recommendations. It's in walking distance of the main attractions and plenty of supermarkets/convenience stores. I wish I could've stayed longer. I'll definitely stay here again when I come back to Hiroshima.

Verified reviewLocation as great, 20 minutes via streetcar from station and 10 minutes from Peace Museum. Quiet and safe.
- Staff were unfriendly upon reception. Each time we walked from our room to the kitchen, we were not acknowledged and the atmosphere felt tense. - there was only one table and couch in the common area. The majority of the time we were there, the staff were using this for laptops leaving us with no room to sit. We ate one meal standing up in the kitchen/bathroom. - Bed: pillow was a sack of beans, rock hard and uncomfortable. The mattress was incredibly thin. The A/C in the room did not work effectively and the room still felt stuffy. There was barely any room for bags so most people dumped them in the hallway. - Layout: toilet located in the kitchen so you can be cooking your food whilst someone uses the restroom 1m away. People were brushing their teeth in the kitchen. Only 2 toilets for the whole hostel. Overall cleanliness was disappointing with pink mould evident throughout. - wasn't clear if there was a hot water tap for cleaning dishes.

Verified reviewThe location and size of the bed were great!
The bed curtains have gaps on either side, so not completely private. In addition, it was quite hot in the room and I was unsure if there was an air conditioner available for use.
