Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesThe bathroom has no AC, so it gets extremely hot. Some rooms were a little dirty.
It's a hostel, so facilities are shared. That being said, everything is kept clean, towels are provided, there's a nice kitchen/lounge, a restaurant, and nice bathrooms. The beds are relatively comfortable as well.

JapanAfter I pulled off the sheets (as per the hotel’s instructions) the bedding had bugs and there were blood stains on the comforter.
The value is incredibly good! Facilities were not bad.

AustraliaTop bunks are a bit close to the ceiling I did bump my head on it a few times. (This is me being clumsy more anything) Just so people are aware do be careful.
Well maintained facilities with lost of space and a huge cafe bar area. All the staff interaction were pleasant very helpful even with more challenges questions.

GermanyWhen I stayed I had guests who turned on the light in the room at midnight. The facilities are outdated. I especially didn't like that the shampoo, etc. in the shower was just standing on the floor instead of a try or something like that like it's usually the case everywhere.
It was close to the station and the common area seemed to be very nice. I didn't have time to actually spend time there, though.

AustraliaRock hard beds (thin futons on wood base or Tatami (which felt like it was directly on concrete).
Position is great, we really loved Kokura. Everything was clean. Kids slept fine and liked the bunk beds.

JapanTop bunk is very high and a little difficult if you have mobility issues, so keep that in mind if that applies to you. The people in my room were kind of noisy overnight but that's not the hostel's fault, just to keep in mind with a bigger room size. Shower was a little dirty, but not the worst I've seen.
The beds have actual mattresses! Nice in a hostel for sure, haha. The bathrooms were spacious and the common areas and kitchen was well stocked and lively, though not noisy.

SingaporeIt’s not your usual hostel & floor can be quite dirty. No slippers are provided & you’d have to walk to the shower with your shoes on / bring slippers yourself.
Very near to the station & Lawson right downstairs. Place looks pretty run down but the bed was pretty comfortable & there was ample space to store my belongings.

IndiaThe place looks pretty beaten up. More like a warehouse.
It has a bar in the place. You sometimes have events where locals come to talk in English. Pretty good if you are solo traveller and like to talk to people.

United StatesThe wifi was a bit slow
1. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. 2. The location is perfect, close to Tangga Market, Kokura Castle, and many more attractions. 3. I know Japanese water is safe and clean to drink, but they have a water filter, so that was a plus too. 4. On top of that, the bed was thick and comfy. I also loved the height of the bed too.

New ZealandIt’s definitely a bit rundown but it was pretty clean when I stayed there. I stayed in the female only room A, luckily it wasn’t very busy because all of the sounds echo in there especially the curtains when you pull them. Definitely ask for a bottom bunk as I did!! The one thing I really didn’t like as a female was that you have to walk through the kitchen/lounge area to the toilet and shower room. There seemed to be mostly men in the lounge and hallway and it was awkward to go to the toilet if you were already in your pjs. Despite all of this, I think that it’s a good place for the price and I would still go back again.
The location was pretty good, about a ten minute walk was from the station and right by a big shopping arcade. I liked the size of the cubicle and there were plenty of toilets and showers.

SwitzerlandMy room was a little far away from the bathroom/shower room
The bed was comfortable and there is a quite spacious locker in the room (I could easily fit my backpack). The staff was very nice. The shared bathroom is spacious and clean. Very convenient location, just 10 min away from Kokura station and there are a lot of convenience stores and restaurants nearby.

MalaysiaI got the top of the bunk bed. I would say it was a bit dangerous for a small person like me to climb it because it was kind of tall and a slight mistake will risk my safety while climbing.
I like that there is a common space to cook and the location is quite convenient from all the places (kokura castle, river walk, convenient store as well as the train station).

FranceVery noisy. The dormitory is huge (16 beds) and there are always people going in and out and not trying to shut the door quietly even when it’s 4am. If you are given an upper bed - which was my case - it’s super high so quite dangerous to reach and more than 3 quarters of the bed is open so you have no privacy at all and you suffer from the general light
Excellent location, bed quite comfy, globally clean, nice English speaking staff
