As of June 2025, there is some extensive roadwork going on immediately outside that makes it both harder to find, and a little less impressive. That said, we did manage it and the staff immediately made us feel welcome. The area is a little bit of a weird one for tourists. Its not your typical Japan experience, so don't go there expecting anything other than a quiet fishing town! If you visit, I recommend attempting the public baths. There were too suggested to us (with a discount), and the cheaper of the two was based in a building that had a lot of information about the local area to look through.

The harbor view from our room was really unique. It felt amazing waking up to the sights of the fishing ships leaving in the morning. The food was also surprisingly good. We tried a few different things from the menu and everything was excellent. The breakfast is simple in a good way, and totally worth the price. Everything feels modern and stylish. I think they did a good job reforming the building from whatever it was before.

This hostel is a gem. It has a super cool vibe and decoration. Everything ja beautifully designed and the views are amazing!! They offer a breakfast which is good for its value and in the nice cafe. Would repeat without hesitating. The champús were smelling so good!

Just the construction- but it’s not their fault & was not noisy & didn’t detract from the view or experience.

Lovely young owners. Great little fishing town perfect after a hike. Shame there is construction out front for a new sea wall. Hope it will be finished for them soon. Still can see the Bay. Great seafood & fishermen to talk with. Great to get up early & enjoy the sunrise. Onsen behind at a discount was great! Nice breakfast & local products for sale.

The walls are on the thin side, so you can hear guests in other rooms at times.

The view was wonderful, staff were friendly and helpful, and the cleanliness and attention to detail were great. Would absolutely recommend a stay here.

It is noted everywhere but the structure is old so sound for noisy guests travels fast. Not Tagore's fault of course and they do provide ear plugs. The showers are tiny. Definitely bring an eye mask.

Great wee spot right on the harbour. Very comfortable beds and most of the staff are friendly and helpful. Nice cafe bar with good drink selection. Good shampoo, conditioner and hand soap.

Absolutely nothing

We loved the transformation of this old harbour building into a airy, supercool hostel. The rooms are lovely and have a splendid view over the bay. The food and coffee are brilliant, as are the friendly staff. We were sad to leave and will hopefully be back.

Nothing much really! If I had to say something I would say the walls are a bit thin so if your neighbours are loud you might hear it! On the 7 nights I stayed there it happened once that it was a bit too loud. So nothing to complain about!

The room was super nice and had everything you needed! The view is absolutely beautiful and the sunsets are amazing. The best part for me were the super friendly people. One of the best experiences I had on my travels throughout Japan! Thanks again to the Tagore Team for making the stay so enjoyable!

We had a great stay at this hostel. The view of the harbour from the room was magnificent and the room was comfortable and bright. There is a cafe/bar at the reception which serves very good coffee. Highly recommended!

The view is amazing, the town is really chill and down to earth, local people are lovely. The owner also organize this party once a year called Head for Heda which is worth looking for, especially if you have kids.
