Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesThe newly built hotel we stayed in recently are not as roomy (with tatami floor) and Japanese traditional feel as it was before. The bathroom is a bit small, compared to the past rooms. We felt like staying in typical, modern hotel environment. The cost does not include using the hot springs bath, which is 250 yen per day, per person (which is only about 1/10 of what it’ll cost for non-hotel guests.
In the past, we’ve stayed at Beppu Suginoi most of the time. We enjoy the infinity hot springs, varieties of all you can eat food services (breakfast and dinner included), and great view of Beppu bay and city. They added an hour limit on all you can drink alcoholic, even though we don’t consume that much alcohol. There are other fun stuff to do at the facility such as outdoor pool, Game Center, and bowling alley which is great for kids to have fun.

AustraliaNothing in particular but things to keep in mind - Open air onsens is truely an outdoor experience - so it feels like people can see you. - The arcade game and bowling is not free, it is a paid per use service - Although the buffet has a lot of choice, I wouldn't eat it more than 2 nights. It is delicious for a first time stay - I could see myself getting tired of eating the same thing several days. Basically the menu is recycled - at least for my 2 night stay in March 2025. - You need to take ticket and queue to be allowed into the dining hall. This contrast with other hotel that I have stayed where you are given a ticket allocated with a time slot i.e. an appointment. There is pro and con to Beppu Suginoi system, the con is that there is waiting, up to 15 min. It didn't felt long at all. Just be prepare to wait. The pro is that anyone can just rock up and have a table. Under any situation, you are allocated 100 min of eating time, in which afterward, based on self-discipline, you need to vacate your table. Your table will be marked with the time you started to remind you of this. - The Sora-kan entrance can be easily missed for those that has never been or don't know where it is located. We missed the entrance and drove right past it. The traffic controller - working for the Hotel were not particularly helpful as we didn't speak Japanese and they did not understand English.
- A true 4 star hotel that is modern, beautiful view of the bay - Roof top features a panoramic onsen with indoor and outdoor experience - There is two outdoor onsen to choose from (Tana yu & Sora yu) - they are in different buildings. Staying guests are entitle for free unlimited access to both. It felt surreal in the cold 4-6C evening of Spring. I could see smoke rising from the bath waters. - Excellent wifi - The Sora Kan buffet (breakfast and dinner) was a good choice of food featuring Haagen Dazs ice cream, chinese, westen and japanese cuisine - There is a arcade and bowling center (paid) - Free shuttle service for guests complimentary from the Beppu station (did not use) - Excellent view of the mountain, very quite and relaxing environment to unwind - There was a staff that speak Cantonese, a Nepalese waiter, belle girl/boy looks like there is diversity in the staff - perhaps the company suggesting has a good EDI policy. - Room supplied Yukata for Onsen, lots of size to choose from - The reception hall has lots of vending machines and very well decorated/modern feel - NIght show available for kids, projection shows/events - Outdoor pool (heated) available for guests, open until quite late when we stayed there - Lots of locker in pool and onsen - The hotel feature a LIVE headcounts estimate of how crowded each of its facility. Like, it will tell you that it may be croweded in the Women Sora-yu but little crowd in the Male Sora-yu onsen. These LIVE headcounts are projected on the TV of your room, or in big LCD TV in the reception hall. This informs how busy and crowded each facilities are. I think that is pretty cool. - Quick check-out experience. Seamless check-in. - Ample of free parking - managed by the Hotel in close vicinity. We parked in P3, which is a parking building with roof cover.

United StatesI think a family was staying in the room next to mine so it was quite loud. Also, there were no reservation signs in the bath stalls at tanayu but none at sorayu - maybe this was why a lot of people “reserved” them by leaving their belongings in the stalls, which was a nuisance at busy times because people had to wait for them to open up while there were empty stalls that were “reserved.” I hope the property can clearly guide people regarding this matter.
Loved the food options as well as the facilities. Everything was very clean and well cared for.

United StatesProperty itself has many buildings & is huge. Its also situated on a hill, so ur best bet - take free shuttle from Beppu station to hotel and vice versa. Sometimes the shuttle times wont match with your schedule - just take the taxi to beppu kitahama (bus terminal for mostly outer cities/ local buses go to beppu station west). No constraint on time - you can take free shuttle to beppu station/ take JR or local buses from eki nishiguchi (station west exit) OR walk 10-15 min to bus terminal (kitahama) from beppu station.
Everything about the stay was comfortable. Once you’re inside the resort, you dont have to worry about anything: Food is taken care of. Onsen is taken care of (yukata/ all bath products and towels provided at the onsen/ literally just need to bring undergarments and some cash because you want to quench ur thirst after onsen). I didnt want to leave the hotel and just onsen 2x a day 😂 The highlight is Tanayu, the main onsen with AMAZING ocean views and just fresh air while bathing outdoors! (I did stay in Sorakan/ had access to Sorayu - good quieter alternative/ great outdoor tub with surround ocean views/ but Tanayu just has a place in my heart) Few times I did want to leave the hotel - i just went down to lobby and asked them to call a taxi - yes, there is a free shuttle to/from Beppu station but sometimes you’re in a hurry or just lazy. (Keep in mind, transportation/ taxi costs ARE very expensive in Japan.) Was under 2000 yen to closeby places like don quixote (on the way back, short 10 min walk to beppu station & took shuttle back).
