Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesThey don't tell you anywhere that you need to pay an "accomodation fee" of 200 Yen per person per night. Probably no big deal but it's good to be clear and inform clients in advance.
Staff was friendly and polite, he tried to helped us as much as he could.

Great location and perfect for solo traveller. The tatami room was really lovely. Big plus that it was very close to Kyoto station.

HungaryThe room seemed a little worn off. There are also no shades in the room, so the sunlight gets through easily.
A great place for a ryokan-like experience with the tatami floor and the futon bed. The room size is pretty nice. The hotel is located in a few minutes walk form Kyoto Station

AustraliaStaff were not present often if at all, I organised a second futon in advance for a friend who was staying with me ( not planned to be with me before I booked, very last minute) and was approved for said futon, however despite mentioning to the staff member that it was approved by the hotel representative, I was refused the futon. Tried to organise it a second time however it didn’t end up working out that time either. We ended up just sharing one for the rest of the week. Not ideal but could have been worse. Oddly the hotel entrance door was never locked either, even very late at night. Otherwise, I really enjoyed my stay, thanks for having us!
Location was fantastic, just between Gojo Karasuma station and Kyoto main station, few cafes and restaurants around and convenience stores just a short walk down. Room was small but very cute, if you don’t mind small spaces it’s a lovely little room for one person.

ItalyThin walls make it easy to hear any noise coming from other rooms. The last floor doesn't have an elevator. Cleanliness wasn't the best on a Japanese standard, but still acceptable overall. They make you pay the city tax in cash after your arrival, and honestly that doesn't make much sense. There was a full rubbish bin just in the middle of the walkway on the 4th floor. The front desk is open just in the afternoon.
Pretty big room with a private bathroom for a fair price. Conveniently located at a few hundred meters from Kyoto station. You can leave your luggage in storage for no fee, very convenient for travellers. They spoke English at the front desk.

SerbiaWe knew that the walls were thin, but not this thin. We could hear even a quiet conversation in the room next to ours, as if they were sitting next to us. One night guests in that room were very loud until 3AM and there's nothing you can do about it, even though house rules say quiet time after 10PM. The hotel was unresponsive after writing to them via booking.
Tatami experience was great, it was very comfortable. There are plenty of convenience stores in the neighborhood, laundry service both in the hotel and down the street and a great ramen place nearby (next to the curry place).

NorwayThe temperature in the shower was either too cold or too hot, and when i could finally get a nice temperature it only lasted about 10-15 seconds until it got too hot or too cold again. We could also hear a lot of noises from the nearby rooms.
Easily walkable distance to the station, shopping malls, and multiple convenience stores. Very cute, simple and charming room with tatami mats. Reasonable price. Friendly staff. The lighting in the bathroom was good for applying makeup and getting a proper good look at your face.

United StatesIt was a little noisy at night and there were a lot of people smoking at the entrance, but they were polite and moved out of the way when coming in and out.

MalaysiaThe rooms are very small and you can also hear next door people talking. The toilet is super duper small and cramp as the shower and toilet bowl is so near to each other therefore it is difficult to turn the body for someone big size or tall.

United KingdomThis is a very simple hotel with a one night only kind of hotel. We were given the last floor room (5th floor) but the lift only goes until the 4th floor so Imagine our surprise when we are traveling with 2 big large luggage. At least the guy from reception helped us to carry our luggage, which was nice of him.
