Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

New ZealandNothing in particular - the shared bathroom/shower may bother some people but I didn’t mind.
I enjoyed meeting and staying with a lovely local couple. The detached garden room was perfect for myself as a solo traveller. The owners have great taste in interiors. The western style breakfast was very good too.

Czech RepublicThe guesthouse is quite far from Tajimi centre and there is not much around, but the owners have been very kindly driving us around.
We chose this guesthouse on our way from Nakatsugawa to Nagoya based on the great reviews here and we were very happy with our stay. The owners kindly drove us to and from the train station, as the guesthouse is located quite far away. They have been so welcoming and helpful, and it was a real pleasure to stay in their beautiful house. The 2 bed room is very clean and modern, stocked with many beautiful books about ceramics, art and travelling. There was a storm during our stay and it felt so cozy to stay inside with the rain hitting the ceiling! In the evening, the owner drove us to the nicest onsen facilty we have ever visited, with a choice from many hot spring pools. Even though we have only stayed for one night, it would be lovely to come back one day.

CyprusThis was the most welcoming stay in Japan that I experienced. We came in the evening and the host provided us a ride to a nearby mall to eat and the big spa facility where we could spend time for free using a coupon that they gave us. Breakfast was also very good. Nice place

SingaporeA little challenging finding the Guest House.
The host is friendly and helpful. After learning that I like pottery, she helped me book a pottery session with a local pottery studio.

United StatesTruly serene feeling and backed up to a nature area. The room was filled with artist touches. Very kind hosts. Comfortable room and beds. We were given daily passes to a local onsen for our bathing, and this was our first onsen experience and a good one!

SingaporeIt wasn't an issue for me, but just take note that if you book a single room, you'd have to use the toilet in the host's house or the other larger guest room toilet. There's also no showers in both guest rooms, but they provide free tickets to a beautiful onsen nearby. They also allowed me to use the shower in their house during my longer stay previously.
Stayed here twice. Yumiko and Suguru were both so kind and helpful throughout the stay – they were great hosts, always sharing snacks and night-time chats with me. I'm so thankful for their care and hospitality throughout my stay. If you like interacting with locals, and finding out more about Japanese craft and culture, stay here! It's a beautiful, restful home.

AustraliaThere is no bath or shower available however tickets to the local Onsen are provided. Unfortunately the local Onsen is not tattoo friendly.
The property was beautiful and thoughtful. The mid-century furniture and beautiful ceramics on display made the accommodation feel very peaceful and homely. The doors opened up onto a peaceful garden with a creek running through it. Will definitely return next time we are in Japan. The hosts were very accommodating and friendly.

NetherlandsIt’s a quiet location, which is nice. First time in years that I have slept without earplugs. Good to know: you can not bathe at the guesthouse. I was a bit scared of using the Onsen at first, but ended up loving it. The hosts are such nice people. They made my stay even better, thank you so much.

AustraliaThe property is advertised as having a shower but when we arrived we were advised that this was not the case and we would have to go down the road to the local onsen. This should have been pointed out in the description of the property. We are not comfortable using this type of bathing facility
We were surprised to be offered breakfast as the property was described as not providing breakfast. The cost of 800 yen per person was very reasonable and the continental breakfast provided was delicious.

United StatesThe bait and switch: the room is advertised on booking.com as having a shower. It does not. When we arrived the owner met me and asked whether I liked onsen; and then went on to tell me that the room did not have a shower, and she was giving me two tickets (one for me, one for my wife, though we were staying two nights) to a local bathhouse that's about a 15 minute drive from the property. My (Japanese) wife later called the owner and spoke to the husband (rather that the wife who'd met me), and insisted on the shower. He went to an outdoor room in the back yard and set up what I'd describe as similar to a camp shower; he put a soft-sided basin on the floor next to a sink to which a shower hose had been attached. He set up a curtain around three sides of the tub. And that was the shower. It worked about as well as you might imagine a camp shower working. The second night we went to the local bathhouse, which was not close and which we didn't much appreciate either, though it was superior to the camp shower. The house itself is at the end of a cul-de-sac, and is in a very quiet setting. However the neighborhood is what I'd describe as light industrial, with no restaurants, convenience stores, or even many vending machines within 600 meters or so. You will have to be driving yourself if you consider staying here.
The room was spacious, with a large table, a pair of single beds, refrigerator, sink, and toilet room. The room is adorned with many hundreds of art books and magazines reflecting the owner's tastes. The sliding glass door to the back yard offers a pretty and peaceful view of nature. Free parking with plenty of space is just across the street. The neighborhood is very quiet.

United StatesLots of hilly roads that go up and down. Difficult to move around the area without any form of transportation. The guest house was good, but hope they can adjust where the light fixtures are placed.
I liked how the family staff was friendly and not too pushy and let you have it your way. They helped by guiding through the town and given assistance by offering a taxi lift service or electric bike.
