This place was an amazing stop-over on our train journey from Kyoto to Sapporo. I think we were especially lucky being here on a Monday night as we were virtually the only people here! It meant that my son and I got the public onsen to ourselves which is superb (the outside area is right next to falling snow and a stream).

As non-Japanese speakers we were made to feel very welcome and the hosts were very accommodating. One thing I didn't realise was the remoteness and when we only opted in for breakfast, we didn't realise there were no other accessible dinner options nearby.

My wife & I stayed at Fulsato for one night on a Tohoku ski trip driving from Geto Kogen to Tazawako. We’ve stayed at many Ryokan on our trips to Japan and this was likely the best one. From the moment we arrived the staff was so kind and helpful. We got a room overlooking the river with our own private bath in the balcony. The other public baths were nice esp the outdoor one. The room was well thought out and immaculately clean. The best part was the food! Both the dinner and breakfast were kaiseki style and the presentation and flavors were amazing. The price was higher than we usually pay but it felt like a total value.

Nothing honestly. It’s a bit out of the way from anywhere else and it seems having a car like we did is the best option.

Japanese hospitality at its best. There was not a single thing I could fault, we had the loveliest time. The food was exceptional, as was the service. The place is made for rest and recharge with the hot tubs and the whole atmosphere being calm and quiet. We were very sad to leave and would come back any time.

    Natural setting.

The taxi to and from the hotel was very cramped.

From the moment that we arrived until we left (on the taxi organized by Fulsato, you need to message about it), we were treated as if we were royalty. The chef is absolutely amazing at his craft. Every dish somehow managed to surpase the last. Every member of staff put forth a great effort to take down the language barrier, with their own knowledge of English, and google translate.

Honestly, there was nothing that we didn't like.

We loved the private hot spring in our room, and the hotel amenities such as shampoo, soap, toiletries were all good quality. The food was incredible, and we were treated like royalty our entire stay. We were given yukata’s to wear to breakfast and dinner, which was a nice touch. It was the most expensive place we stayed on our trip to Japan, but was worth every penny. The staff were very helpful in booking us a transfer to and from the JR train station both ways, and used a translator service on iPads to communicate with us when needed. We were so pleased with our stay and would recommend to anyone.

    Nothing, it’s perfect!
