How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

It is just a little bit far away from the bus station, but the guest drove me to the station when I was leaving. He was always very kind!

It has nothing to do with the accommodation but it is necessary to know that if you stay to sleep in this town, from 17:00 everything or almost everything is closed, except for some restaurants.
The people who manage it are wonderful. They help you and care that you have everything you need. Comfortable, pleasant and well located accommodation. We fell in love with this town.

Note that restaurants in this area are open for like 2 hours a day for some reason, so plan your eating accordingly. There is a combini that is open for emergencies.
Great place for backpackers. A little off the beaten path, but super worth it for all of the friendly faces you meet here. I met so many nice people. Honor system for the sake and snacks. Only in Japan.

Nothing. It was all excellent.
Very welcoming hosts and relaxed atmosphere. Basic facilities, but clean and great value for money. We loved our stay here and although a little walk from the village, it is worth the little bit of extra effort.

It’s a little bit of a walk to the downtown area. But there is also a bus.
The staff were some of the most pleasant people I have ever met. Above and beyond and friendly.

No sink in the room. Would have been nice but everything else was exceptional so thats ok.
Really big room with comfortable beds. The private shower and toilet was also very nice. The common area of the hostel is really nice for relaxing with a beautiful view. Also having free ground coffee availible was a good extra.

I had a wonderful stay at the guest house! The location is good, the place is cozy and comfortable, and the atmosphere is really welcoming. The owner is incredibly kind and friendly—he even took us to see the fireflies at night, which was such a magical and unforgettable experience. I also had the chance to meet some amazing fellow guests and make new friends during my stay. Highly recommended if you're looking for a warm and homely place to stay!

It was the village itself, although a heritage site and the village is stunning, EVERYTHING (except one 7/11 shop) closes at 3pm so there is absolutely nothing to do after 3pm until the next morning. Yes you can walk around but you do this during the day anyway. We stayed only one night in the village due to this. But I must say, the scenery is stunning and the views & fresh air. A beautiful part of Japan.
We loved that Kei was so friendly and very helpful. He even gave us a lift back to the hostel when it was raining. The hostel is a hostel in an old part of Japan, expect it to be a hostel, with shared table. We did sleep very well as it qas very quiet and Kei does not allow loud noise late at night. I would stay here again due to his hospitality.

we were the only guests that night and though the room looked a bit different from the pictures, it was very good equipped. also, there are free drinks offered and a very nice guy working there, who gave us a ride to the station because of the rain. overall a great choice!

Convenient stay to visit the village. Very nice friendly guy at 'reception'. I had a private room and was busy with emails, etc. during my stay but others seem to have a good sociable time in the common area. Recommended.

It was a bit of a hike with luggage from the bus station.
The staff was incredibly friendly, funny and a joy to hang out with. Very nice young men. The view was beautiful and the common area was clean and spacious. The bunks were big and comfortable and everything was clean. I felt very welcome there and really enjoyed my stay. I wish I had booked for 2 nights, it was so peaceful and relaxing. They even had a shuttle service to bring you back to town. It was a wonderful stay!
