Incredible place to stay, high up in the mountains on a beautiful clear river. The hotel has several natural open air hot springs. Bathing in them then jumping into the cold river was an amazing experience. We stayed as a family and our kids loved it.

We had hiked 10 hours before coming to the hotel. They serve no meals - not even breakfirst so we had to walk again about 1 km each way.

The hotel has its own hot tops. Its situated in the mountains and is a bit old in Japanese style and very authentic. We got a great feel there, but its not that modern.

The only problem for me was that there is no food services (paid or included) and there wasn’t any super markets walking distance and even the bus could take hours. So, come prepared with loads of food! The hosts didn’t speak English, they try to explain everything but if you have any doubts just use the translator

Property is amazing, in a beautiful place, access to their own onsen, private or public. If you are a guest you have free access to the amenities. Terrific value for money, I will return for sure Totally recommend it mainly if you come by car, considering is a bit remote. 20min walk to the ropeway Shin-Hotaka, through a beautiful path next to the river.

We were not informed that there were no food options in the area or at the hotel. That would have been very nice to know beforehand. We made it ok cup noodles bought at the hotel counter

No meals were available when we stayed, and we had no car, so we ate intant noodles. The facilities are older and in need of some repair but functional.

The outdoor onsen were beautiful and the natural environment, pristine.

The guesthouse’s location is beautiful, we absolutely loved the view we had from a window and a front door. The bus stops some 5 mins from the guesthouse’s front door. The ropeway is within 15 mins walk from the guesthouse. On the checkout day the staff gave us a free ride to the ropeway from where we forwarded our luggage and hopped on a next bus. The guesthouse itself is very convenient with all the essential facilities. As a person with lots of tattoos it is not always easy for me to find an Onsen in Japan that would have me, but this guesthouse offered private baths I could use. The views from there were as stunning as from the communal baths. There is also a smaller indoors hot bath in the bathing room that I also used with a great pleasure. Did not have a dinner or breakfast but it smelled deliciously around a meal time!

Very Japanese experience with wonderful Onsen. Things I would've liked to know beforehand: - dinner is at 6 pm sharp and you should make a reservation before. Dinner was 7700 yen - breakfast is japanese style - Onsen is wonderful (and naked) - there are no restaurants within a mile of the hotel - bring your best Japanese language skills Public transport is easy. Bring cash. More than you think you need.

The rules are not very clear, and it is a little confusing to know what is located where as the staff did not explain us anything. The shower is also public, so be aware of that.

Great traditional style place with onsens where you can wear a swimsuit if you want to (only valid in the outside public mixed onsen). You can book a private onsen for free (there are two private onsens on site).

The location of this ryokan with its natural onsen (natural hot springs) by the river is just amazing! The private onsens that are across the hanging bridge are easy to book, wished we were allowed to stay longer when its not busy.

We love the onsen, the room and 2 meals. The staff are friendly and welcoming even though they can’t speak English very well.

Overall we didn't feel very welcomed there. Things were not explained to us clearly, just brief video on reception. I had higher expectations from traditional Japanese ryokan.

Staff are a bit aloof and cold. Maybe they are a bit wary of having to speak English. Location is a bit out of the way, we had to take a 1.5h bus ride from Takayama.

Lovely outdoor private onsens. Kaiseki dinner and breakfast was an interesting and enjoyable experience. Rooms were comfy and clean.
