Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GermanyThe breakfast is typical Japanese, which is mostly a good thing. It honestly can be a bit challenging for a Westerner.
The Onsen is very beautiful, the staff is just heartwarming in every way - Just as the communication in advance. Even If you can't speak a Word Japanese there won't be any language barriers. A big plus is the all night opened onsen and the dinner in your own room.

This onsen is truly amazing and beautiful, especially the family room with private onsen and mountain view. Excellent service. Kind staff. Great kaiseki meals. Highly recommended with kids. I only stayed 1 night, and wish I could have stay another night. Not a touristy, mainly locals-very authentic. Very relaxing. -There is a bus from kansai airport to arima onsen (you need to ask airport customer service desk to help reserve), and from arima onsen, you can take a shuttle to hotel.

LuxembourgYou could hear the other guests very good in your room, especially screaming and running children. Hotel was hard to reach by foot and the shuttle bus went only until 18h30. Could have had a corner to relax in the room
The staff was the most friendly and helpful I ever saw. They were so nice and welcoming that I didn't want to leave at all. Room was beautiful, traditional Japanese style and everything was exceptionally clean, the onsens too.

AustraliaTatami rooms were a little musty smelling. We also feel you need to spend 2 nights at least here to take advantage of the town and facilities, one night didn’t allow for much movement between 3pm checkin and 9.30am checkout. We felt staff were being quite rigid on timing of everything from dinner to breakfast etc.
Great to have the full onsen ryokan experience, with very attentive staff and good facilities (esp the play area for kids).

AustraliaWe stayed at Motoyu Ryuusenkaku as a couple with our 9-month old baby and were made to feel so welcome and comfortable. We stayed 3 nights, and that felt like the perfect amount. The staff were a joy, the facilities were excellent for a family. We loved the onsens and my partner and I took turns having a relaxing soak after the baby was asleep. The breakfast was excellent. Our baby breakfast was great, even though he played with and dropped most of it on his lap and the floor. The giftshop in the lobby is also excellent and has the best items from all the shops in town. This hotel was a highlight of our trip!

The service is excellent. From the time we reached the ryokan till we left, we received great service from everyone. There is a bus transfer that can send you to the centre but I recommend ordering dinner from the ryokan to save the hassle because a lot of the restaurants were full even on a Sunday night. The ryokan is also child friendly. Yummy breakfast and dinner.

Staff & Services: Very attentive and friendly staffs. Able to speak English and Mandarin. We were greeted soon as we arrive in front of the resort. Explained all the facilities they have while guided us to our room. Ensure we are comfortable throughout our stay. A truly Japanese hospitality. Best we have so far. Breakfast & Dinner: Both excellent 👍 please try the Kaiseki full course dinner. Room & facilities : Very well maintained facilities. Room is very clean and the view is excellent ( we're staying at 4th floor). I can just sit all day enjoying the view while drinking tea :) Tatami Bed is very comfortable (they set up the bed right after the dinner). So comfy that you wouldn't want to leave the bed once you tucked inside the blanket. Thank you for the great hospitality 🙏. it's a memorable stay and would definitely stay again if we visit Arima onsen.

ThailandWe stayed in the "Japanese Style Family Suite 78sqm with Open-Air Bath + half board" - me, my husband, my 2-year-old son and my dad. We loved everything about the hotel and was definitely my most favorite of the whole trip! Room: We love the room! And the outdoor private bath on the balcony was just amazing, with stunning view!! Absolutely recommend this room with the square onsen on the balcony. Staffs: Very very friendly, kind and caring. I'm currently pregnant, the staffs saw it without me mentioning and brought me the donut pillow to sit on + obi for pregnant woman to wear comfortably. They were also always smiling and greeting us with joy. It was very pleasant. Dinner: The kobe beef dinner sets in our room were delicous! Both the shabu set and steak set. The only downside was the smell that lingered in the bedroom afterwards ^^". Breakfast: Each of us received bento at the dining room with various small plates. It was nice. Personally I'd prefer buffet style where I can select what I wanted to eat. But this was ok too and we knew it since booking. Location: We rented a car with driver so we had no problem getting to the hotel and going to the city. But if we were to travel by ourselves, it might be a bit troublesome as the hotel is somewhat uphill and out of the city center a bit.

AustraliaThis was our first time in a Ryokan/Onsen and it was such an amazing experience. We had 2 young children with us and Motoyu Ryuusenkaku caters perfectly for young families. They have everything you'd need, kids slippers, yukatas, high chairs and even a large kids play area that kept them entertained. The staff are some of the most polite, warm, friendly and attentive people we met in our time in Japan, I can't speak higher of them especially Aska who took great care of us. The food is incredible, we went with the full dinner plan (Kaiseki) which is served to you in your room, the quality is superb and we got to experience a huge range of traditional Japanese courses. Traditional breakfasts are taken in the communal dining area and are just as wonderful as the dinners. We went with the mountain view room which was fantastic, many an hour was spent drinking tea and just taking in the view. The baths themselves (indoor and outdoor) are terrific too. They have excellent facilities and guests are provided with everything you'd need for a great onsen experience. The baths take in the same mountain view, it's very tranquil. A free shuttle bus is offered to take you to and from Arima's town so you don't have to worry about climbing the steep hill back to the Ryokan.

United Kingdomnothing - it was perfect
This stay was a highlight of our 3 week trip to Japan. As a clueless British family we were quite nervous about trying the onsen experience which seemed to have a lot of rules. But we were made to feel so welcome by the wonderful, welcoming staff at this family-friendly hotel. We had such a lovely stay and enjoyed every minute.

Singapore-The free shuttle car by the hotel only starts in the afternoon but we arrived in the morning -It was raining and we walked up from the bus station to the hotel. It was pretty tough due to slopes and all drenched. If there was shuttle car by the time we arrived, would be a perfect 10
-Private onsen and affordable room rates as compared to other hotels nearby -Very suitable for children to stay -Free yukata to wear during stay -Has indoor swimming pool though we didn't try -Very comfy and spacious room of traditional style futon -Nice scenery from room -There is a brownish mochi (few free snacks in the room) that is extremely nice. You can buy it at the counter too

United StatesFor the price we expected more or better. The food was ok, the space was ok, the size of the mineral bath was ok. For the price, we were hoping for something better than OK, but it was good enough.
The location was very family friendly with play rooms for little children. The rooms with a bathroom were comfortable and well maintained. The employees were very kind and patient with children.
