Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

SpainThe hospitality and good humor of the owners made our best stay in Japan. The ryokan is very nice and clean. They were attentive to our needs; the men's baths weren't working that day, so they let us use the private ones. They offered us a delicious traditional dinner, explaining each dish and how to eat it. If you visit Takayama, it's highly recommended. Arigato Hideharu-san, greetings from Valencia (Spain)

AustraliaIt’s a bit more out of town but the inn’s free shuttle served us well and we could handle the walk to centre of town. Taxis were also used! The inn is showing its age a bit but lovely and clean and the friendly staff more than made up for that.
Our experience was consistent with the reviews Id read. Fantastic staff, unique experience with a chance for our family to try traditional bathing, wear summer kimonos and sample absolutely fantastic food. The dinner was our best meal in 3 weeks in Japan!

LuxembourgIt is not centrally located so you need to bear in mind that you have to take taxi, hotel shuttle or a local bus. Not a big deal as the Ryokan is an experience itself and worth the hassle
The atmosphere is absolutely unique. You feel like living in a Japanese Anime. The dinner was amazing with so much variety and the spa, which is included in the stay is a nice plus. The attentiveness of the host.

PolandIt was a great experience to stay in a traditional ryokan, we had breakfast - both western and Japanese options were great, as well as a standard dinner - very tasty! Onsen was great, room comfy and possibility to use a shuttle bus was very convenient. The owner was really helpful and nice.

SingaporeLocation is abit outside of town of Takayama although there is a shuttle service.
Looks a very traditional ryokan. Might be wrong but the multi-storey building is built using the "kumiki" (joinery-no nails) method. Thank goodness for small elevators to get yourself and your luggage to your room. There are private couple or family rooms for the onsen - which is great. Kaiseki dinner with Hida beef that practically melts in your mouth is heavenly. Murayama-san (2nd gen owner) speaks good English and makes the best chawanmushi dish we've eaten. The grilled whole iwana (cold freshwater fish) eaten from the stick needs to be savored.

NetherlandsThe only downside is that the location is about 25 min walking from the train/bus station and the old town. Although the Ryokan has a shuttle that takes you to the station in the morning, you’ll probably end up walking a lot or taking taxis every now and then. The onsen for couples requires some maintenance.
Very friendly staff. Facilities are very clean and neat. We liked our room very much! The regular (separate by gender) onsen was really good, but the one reserved for couples lacks maintenance. Overall we really liked our stay and felt at home.

RomaniaI stayed here with my husband and it was exactly what we needed — peaceful, cozy, and with a warm atmosphere. The room was spotless, the bed incredibly comfortable, and we had a beautiful view. The staff were kind, attentive, and always ready to help with a smile. We felt welcome from the very first moment, and it was the perfect place to slow down, reconnect, and simply enjoy each other’s company. We’ll definitely come back.

NetherlandsFor a ryokan everything sometimes felt rushed; i.e. a full dinner was done in 50 minutes, we didn’t even finish the current course and the next already came. The mattresses may be a little uncomfortable.
serene location just outside the city. Very nice (also private) ryokans available, nice parking. Rooms spacious.

The neighbourhood is lovely and invites for short walks in the nature. The hot bath helped us relax after a long drive.

United KingdomUnfortunately although I had messaged to book a dinner prior to my arrival when I got there they were unable to offer the vegetarian option that they advised would be possible. However I was guided to a couple of restaurants - one being only 15metres away on the corner - which although very quiet was able to provide a vegetarian meal and some lovely local craft beer.
Good sized room and very clean. Friendly staff who were very helpful, particularly with getting to and from the Ryokan. The room was warm and I was very comfortable.
