Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

South KoreaI think the place could have been a little cleaner, but other than this it was perfect.
The breakfast was better than I had expected, it was filling and tasty. The staff were very attentive and kind. The location was great, it was right next to the Nara deer park, and there was a pond in front of the hotel where I could see the deer from inside. I would recommend this place to anyone going to Nara, for travel or work.

Location was great, right next to Nara Park. The room was also amazing, with nice and cozy chairs to sit looking at the deer.

United StatesThe hotel itself is in desperate need of updating and a deep cleaning. It did not feel clean. There are no private showers, only public showers and a bath that is available in the evening. Not everyone in my family was happy about this, but others were fine with it. Probably a little overpriced for the quality of the facility.
The location is truly excellent. It was a quiet, peaceful, traditional ryokan. The Japanese breakfast was good but not great. The room was plenty large enough.

United KingdomLocated near to Nara park the hotel is under 10 mins away from the kintetsu Nara line. The hotel location is convenient to access the many attractions that Nara offers. Breakfast was excellent. As mentioned by other travellers it is a little dated but it suited our needs Staff were very friendly and helpful. Another plus was the excellent breakfast which set us up for the day.

United StatesThe overall atmosphere just did not have that Japanese zing and warm that other ryokan accommodations had. Also. I never saw another guest. Strange how empty the place felt during Golden Week. The onsen needs to have more hours to attend Especially in the early morning. No one but.me was ever there. Strange.
The location was terrific. By a pond where you could see the famous deerr from my window. The royokan style room was a bonus. Futon was very comfortable.

RussiaIt's a cozy Japanese style hotel in a picturesque location, near the Nara park, some deer also walk right in front of it. Staff is friendly, there is a possibility to have tea coffee, futon is absolutely adorable! Japanese breakfast was also nutritious and tasty! But the check out time is too early, 10 a.m. There is no free parking and no amenities like a hair brush etc

AustraliaIt’s a bit dated, but still kept in good condition, as you’d expect in Japan.
Great location, although the pagoda opposite it is undergoing renovation right now, which is obviously not the property’s fault. The breakfast was top quality and the staff accommodated our request for vegetarian meal, which is not always possible in Japan. It was overall a great experience to stay in a more traditional Japanese place, highly recommended.

United StatesTook a weekend day trip to Nara in the midst of a multi-week business trip to Osaka-Kyoto-Tokyo. Nice little ryokan with warm service and homey Japanese-style room. Futon was set up on arrival. Decent room size, gracious hosts, and very good Japanese breakfast (they bring it straight to your room at a pre scheduled time). Public bath is small but no complaints, as it does the trick if you're in need of some relaxation. Coin laundry on premises worked well. Location is 10 minutes walk from Nara Park in one direction and 5 minutes walk from the main street with restaurants and shops in the other direction.

AustraliaIf you're western and booked the Ryokan style futon beds, you might struggle. The floor is hard and the futons are pretty thin. The onsite baths are insanely hot, like burn your skin hot, even hours after they're filled.
Breakfast is absolutely incredible. Location is unreal, the deer Park is basically at your doorstep as is the Nara market district.
