Nothing. A great ski lodge. The village is a bit quiet but has a few very good dining options. I would probably recommend a hire car if you want to visit nearby resorts as access between them is a bit of a challenge.

Perfect location about 50m from an access chairlift. Room was comfortable with a great view. Breakfast was simple but filling and inexpensive. The bar/restaurant was great but a bit quiet at the end of the season. Ski, boot and gear drying room well set up. Staff were fantastic, welcoming, offering great advice, free pickup from the station etc.

Minor cons which were easily offset by the overall great experience: Shared bathrooms were clean and close to our room but the showers were a couple of storeys down from our room and more rustic. Without a car, it is possible to visit other ski areas, but it was tricky. Buses are infrequent and finish very early. We waited 2.5 hours for a taxi back from Akakura one evening - book taxis early or hire a car as everyone advises 😅. Having said that, we will happily come again without a car, and just stay local.

Loved it. A few steps to the chairlift. Lift passes available from the hotel. Comfy beds. Friendly staff. Charming little resort. Aussie food in the restaurant plus a few nice places to eat in strolling distance. Lift to the station.

Amazing stay. Brendon, Ash, Travis, and Nev were all fantastic. Picked me up from the station and made me feel at home from the moment I stepped inside. Great restaurant and breakfast. You can see the lifts from the lodge. I would absolutely stay here again and already wish I could come back!

I have just completed a 2 week stay here with my wife and 5 kids and to say the stay was enjoyable is an understatement. We booked the family suite which comprised of 2 rooms with an interconnecting door. Each room had the most comfortable western King size bed and a single. The quality of the linen was not lost on me nor were the 5 star grade pillows. This was changed many times during our stage, without asking. We drove from Tokyo and always had a parking spot at the door along with snow clearing equipment. Toilets are on each floor in groups of 3 male and 3 female cubicles. At first I thought this would be annoying but I can assure you having a large group conduct there business away from the room turned out to be a blessing.. Each morning we dined at the in house restaurant “The Den”. Breakfast was a continental style buffet with alcarte options available for premium coffees and breakfast items. Located in Suginohara, restaurants are limited so many nights we enjoyed the western menu of the Den. The owner, Brendan, is a chef and the quality of the dishes were a testament to his knowledge and skill. Well priced, with a nice variety. It is also licensed with ressonable priced alcohol. Skiing was the main reason for our stay and the location could not be better., My window was a mere 20m from the Ski Lift. Although we didn’t;t take advantage of it, Brendan was more than happy to assist guests with pickup and drop off to surrounding stations,. I left the best till last. Having skied all over the world, including 3 trips this year alone, I have never experienced a better boot room. Ample storage with actual boot and glove driers. So much hanging space for wet skis, boards and outer wear. It was always warm and access is right by the front door with plenty of room for multiple people. I will definitely be back. Thanks to Brendan and his team for the consistent great service and never ending smiles.

The showers were located on the ground floor just next to the reception area and were very cold in the bathroom. Floors were not heated. There is an onsen but it is not in use. The food at The Den restaurant was nice, but limited to Western food. Would be nice to have some Japanese food options.

Location location! Red Fox Lodge was ski in, ski out with a 5 minute double chair ride right behind the lodge to take you up to Myoko Suginohara gondola. The beds were super comfortable and the rooms had a view of either Suginohara mountain or Kurohime mountain. The continental breakfast was only $10 and had a good selection of pastries, fruit, yoghurt, boiled eggs and even Vegemite was available!

Nothing, it was all really great and is exactly how it's advertised.

The Red Fox Lodge is a great spot to stay! It has a chairlift right out the back door for easy access to hit the slopes. The breakfast is great, an American style buffet spread and it's nice having the restaurant as there aren't many other food options super close by. The lodge is super clean, quiet, and has games and a TV to relax and enjoy with friends and family. And all the staff were really helpful and kind. Would definitely stay again!

Staying at red fox lodge was unforgettable! With the chairlift right at the door, it couldn’t be more convenient. The lodge’s authentic Japanese charm, cozy clean rooms, and fantastic facilities like the drying room and ski storage made every day a joy. Waking up, having breakfast, and jumping straight onto the gondola? Pure magic. Great communal spaces, a fun bar, and Niigata’s famous snow made it even better.

Not an issue with the property as such but next time we stay here we may hire a car! The closest onsen was closed for maintenance but there is convenient shuttle bus that leaves from around the corner to the other largest onsen (tattoo friendly) and other restaurants.

Frankly it’s Brendan and his staff that make this place. It felt like visiting a friend’s lodge. It is also literally next to the beginner chair lift!! This was perfect for our family who are all at different experience levels. Brendan and his whole crew are fabulous! Nothing was too much trouble for them and they always made us feel welcome. I was initially nervous about the shared toilets and showers but I didn’t have to be - every thing was kept clean at all times and I never felt that I needed to wait even when the lodge was at full capacity. Gear drying room was amazing, small details like inside slippers, loads of shared living space, hairdryers, entertainment room, make this place perfect for families. Brendan was kind enough to pick us up from Kurohime train station as Myokokogen station was snowed in, which we were so grateful for! The breakfast is listed as continental but was generous and varied, we ate dinner here most nights too.

Staying at Redbox lodge for our first Japan ski trip was a such a pleasant experience. The lodge situates right in front of the chairlift. You can’t ask for any more convenience than that. Brendon, the lodge owner looked after us with all our extra needs like ski hire and chair lift tickets, with ready smiles and such friendliness. The rooms are comfortable and very clean. We definitely would recommend Redfox lodge to our families and friends and will return for another visit soon.

We stayed at the Red Fox Lodge in Myoko for three fabulous nights. It was very comfortable for our family of 4, with adjoining rooms. We loved the authentic Japanese feel of the lodge. Very warm and Brendon, the host, was very kind and friendly and helped us get around town and recommended some delicious traditional restaurants. The boys were lucky enough to get some end of season snow to play in and build a snow man and we were able to do some beautiful treks through the village and up to the waterfall. It was very helpful to have an English speaking host, as he was able to tell us a lot about the history of the area and showed us rice paddies which are still operational after 600 years. There is a traditional Onsen a short 5 min walk around the corner which was well worth visiting too. We loved Myoko during the spring time. It was a peaceful change of pace to the big cities and gave us a chance to relax and enjoy walking in nature and looking at the many cherry blossoms that we in bloom with comfortable temperatures each day between 18-23 degrees. Well worth a visit. It was one of the highlights of our trip to Japan. Many thanks Brendon for your warm hospitality’s hospitality.
