How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThis is truly such a beautiful hotel! Especially the spa is the highlight, offering stunning views of Atami and the sea. There’s literally everything in the hotel one could need: shops for souvenirs and food, restaurants, a pudding shop etc. I would definitely love to stay here again one day!

Verified reviewAmazing property with lots on offer for guests and fantastic views. From the get go, you are promised a relaxing stay with a regular shuttle bus ready to meet you at the station. Transfer to the hotel is seamless, check in was easy. Hotel information has been prepared in many different languages and I was provided with an English map and information booklet which was really helpful. There are 2 sections to the hotel, Aqua Square and the Tower. The connection between the two requires a quick outdoor (but sheltered) walk. The room had plenty of space for luggage, a really comfortable bed and I enjoyed the layout of the bathroom area. The toilet and shower were separate which I was really impressed with. The hotel provides all sorts of amenities in room, including shampoo, conditioner, body soap gel, hair tonic, skin lotion and face cream, hair dryer, tooth brush and tooth paste. There was also an amenities bar provided on the main floor from which you could freely pick up stuff like a hair brush, q tips, hair bands etc. The hotel also provides loungewear and slippers for you, and it’s so fun being dressed the same as all the other guests. As a solo traveller it made me feel a little less lonely. There are 2 bath spaces, one in the tower (which is the free public bath) the other is a paid onsen in Aqua Square called Fuaa Spa. As a hotel guest you are given a discounted rate to enter the Spa and I HIGHLY recommend you go. The standing bath offers amazing views, the relaxation spaces are divine and the stone saunas are well maintained. Dinner and breakfast were a buffet in the hotel restaurant, but there were al a crate options on offer as well. There are several other stores inside the hotel from which you can buy sweets and souvenirs. On all the buffet items there was an English food label PLUS allergen information which I was so grateful for. Also the VARIETY was fantastic, I was a total dumpling by time I finished my dinner.
The shuttle bus only seems to stop at Atami Station and the hotel, given Atami is so steep and hilly I would have loved for there to be like an “Atami sightseeing” bus circuit (even if just once a day) offered around checkout time that dropped you off at the top of the hill and you could make your own way back down and to the station (but I’m really reaching with this “didn’t like”) The pillows were Japanese style, despite being in a western room. No big deal for one night and I am positive it could have been changed if I was staying longer.

Verified reviewProperty is dated, the food is terrible and the staff at the front not kind or welcoming. The hotel was literally kept at such a high heat we couldn’t breathe. It’s definitely one to avoid and the only bad experience in our 10 days so far. NOT WORTH THE PRICE in any way!!!

Verified reviewThe seaside view from the hotel room was amazing, The breakfast and dinner buffet was great. The rooms were spacious with good amenities. Enjoyed the public bath with the sauna and sea view. Included shuttle bus to/from the station was convenient. Located very close to Atami Ropeway. Staff were accommodating and helpful with luggage forwarding and transporting a party.
Booking a room on Aqua Square side means I had to traverse to the other building for the restaurant, the public bath, or even leave the hotel. We had lots of luggage, so not sure why the shuttle bus didn't place them under the bus to free up more seats.

Verified reviewAqua Square is fairly modern and the attached Fuua Spa (rest area) is excellent with free entrance for hotel guests. Spacious rooms. Good breakfast. Lounge wear provided in rooms that can be worn within hotel premises.
The onsen in the Tower building could do with a refurbishment. The cold pool in the men's Fuua onsen was not cold enough and the sauna was not hot enough (I'm generally used to loyly saunas). Getting to Korakuen can be a little difficult if the free shuttle bus from JR Atami has stopped for the day.
