Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

JapanThe road to go to hotel is very high, you need to focus to drive everytime.
The holder was very nice and welcome. He supported my family a lot and prepared the big bed for me. He also send the gift to us when check out. The view of room is beautiful, I can see the ocean easily. It takes me only 5 mins to go to the beach by walking. When I come back from the beach, I also have the water to clean my clothes with many sand. They also have the coin laundry machine, it's so good place. I will comeback for sure.

AustraliaThe owner of the stay was very friendly and told us about the history of his hotel. He was very welcoming. The room had everything we needed; including a TV. The water pressure of the shower was very good as well. When we left, he gave us a very beautiful postcard with his photography on the front of it.

JapanLocated up on the hill, google maps says 9min walk to the beach but definitely can take longer since you get really tired. If another beach and using the car, then should be ok tho it is a bit narrow the street.
Amazing breakfast, very kind staff, really good value. Parking was also for free so that was really nice.

GermanyWe loved every minute of our stay in Shirahama. The host was so friendly and welcoming and we loved our classic Japanese room. The house is on a hill in very short distance to the beach. The beach is great for relaxing and surfing and we had a wonderful time. The next time we come to Shirahama we will definetly come back to this place.

JapanOur room was near the entrance and stairs so we can hear people's footsteps.
The owner was very kind. He explained everything we need to know and also very helpful. Even though it only has communal bath, you can reserve and use it for 30 mins. The hot bath was very relaxing. It's great the pension house was walking distance to the beach. We also received pretty post card souvenirs from the owner who took the photo himself.

Great Breakfast, rooms comfortable and very clean. It takes about 5 minutes by foot to the beach. Very steep hill, so if you have a lot of luggage maybe consider a taxi (about 2300 yen from shimoda train station). Owners are very nice and helpful and speak good english. (My son had to see a doctor and the owner was so nice to drive us there and stay as an interpreter.) All in all I would defenitely stay there again.

SingaporeA slight blemish was a muted but constant creaking sound from the air-condition/heater unit in our room which affected my sleep despite very nice mattress and pillow, but I am a light sleeper...
1. Host. Mr Yamamoto was most personable. An artist. A really fun character. Very hospitable. Made us feel right at home immediately. Speaks English well and I think he is probably conversant in Spanish and French too. 2. Room. Western twin bed with ensuite. Mr Yamamoto assigned us a wonderful, East-facing room with glass windows on 2 sides, one looks out to the ocean, the other to the rustic hill nearby. Ensuite, while small (par for the course in Japan), was ergonomically designed and the water pressure was really strong. 3. Location: up on a hill in a quiet neighborhood but walking distance to the beautiful Shirahama Beach. The 4 storey house is built into a hillside and surrounded by nature. 4. Cleanliness: Impeccably clean everywhere inside the sprawling property. Cleanliness of our room and vacant rooms Mr Yamamoto showed us was just immaculately spotless, I must say very impressive. 5. We did not have any meals at Sakuraya due to time constraints but based on what we have observed, meals would have been really enjoyable. 6. Facilities: Onsen bath which Mr Yamamoto made arrangement for us to use privately was really nice and well-designed. Absolutely pampering to enjoy a nice, restoring Onsen bath at the end of a long day. 7. Keepsakes: Mr Yamamoto offers each guest, not each room, a postcard of local scenery expertly and artistically shot by him. That's sincerity and pride for his hometown. Yamamoto San's Sakuraya is a guesthouse I could stay for a prolonged period, given the chance.

VietnamAlthough minor, it's worth noting that the pension is situated uphill, and the road leading to it is quite steep.
This was my second visit to ペンション桜家, and this time, we traveled with family, enjoying a relaxing night at Sakuraya! Mr. Yamamoto, the host, was incredibly warm, friendly, and accommodating. He kindly gifted us beautiful postcards taken by himself as a memento. The overall cleanliness and comfort of the property were notable. Our tatami room was nicely decorated in traditional Japanese style. Behind the property stood two beautiful Sakura trees, and what I cherished the most was the peaceful moments spent walking and observing the Sakura tree and the small birds gracefully moving among its branches. I highly recommend it for family or group stays.
