Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

NetherlandsThe cleanness of the room can be improved, some corners are a bit dusty.
The warm welcome and introduction from the hosts, as well as everything they did during our stay. The host took me to a morning walk even it was raining when he would usually skip the walk. The grill dinner was great, with enough and high quality food. The home made breakfast was also amazing. It’s located in a beautiful and peaceful area.

ChinaEnjoyed our stay at Pension Izukogen! Only a few minutes walk from the station and the neighborhood was quiet and lovely. The bedding was very comfortable and breakfast was very nutritious. Enjoyed the morning walk with the host for the two days of our stay and learned a lot about the local culture. Will definitely recommend this place to our friends!

The BBQ dinner and the morning walk to the Jogasaki coast guided by the pension owner. The pension owner introduced the various sights and dining places around the area which assisted us a lot to plan the trip. He also helped us to check if the trail on Mt Omuro was opened due to the inclement weather to facilitate our decision to go or not.

Hong KongDon't try to do the laundry in the Pension as it cost 1,000Yen each time. This is the most expensive charge during my experience!
10 mins walk from the train station, up and down hill with a steep slope but the room view facing the mountains is exceptional. Taka Sen is a great host and he takes me to a morning walk at 0630 showing the beauty along the seashore when the sunrises. Must hike the Jogasaki coast and it takes about 3 hours. You will enjoy the breathtaking and majestic view of the rugged volcanic rocks in different formation. I will definitely come back to Izukogen again.

JapanI think it’s quite difficult to pull luggage to get here, cuz there’s too many hills to climb. But the view around it is so amazing and the host is nice. My favorite part is going hiking in the morning with host and delicious breakfast!

Everything was very clean, the breakfast was very good, the property was very pretty and the host very nice and made a lot of recommendations! The station was 10 minutes away from the house! The owner also took us to take a walk to Jogosaki trails and it was very pretty! I definitely recommend this stay!

JapanDepending on how many people are staying in the two rooms could be waits for the shared toilet and bathroom.
Super friendly host/owner who can communicate well in English. His morning walking tour is worth getting up for. Had great recommendations for places to eat and visit. Was able to tailor breakfast for vegetarians, too. The room was clean and while I have a mold allergy didn't have any issues here (many old hotels/homes in Japan aren't good for me). The aircon was a high-end Fujitsu model that you don't see very often in lodging and it did a great job.

BelgiumIzu-kogen is a beautiful place and Takamune-san and his wife are loveable host. At my arrival I was welcomed with a bbq-dinner which was amazingly good (even way too much for just one person). The breakfast is western and made by Takamune's wife, I enjoyed it thoroughly, they make sure you've got everything you need. If Takamune-san invites you on a morning walk, be sure to accept, because it's a beautiful walk and he might share some information about his ancestors, which I found really interesting!

JapanThe room was just a bit cramped: the was another trundle bed up against the wall, so with 3 twin beds side by side there wasn't much room left. Also, there was a large (harmless) spider that we ended up catching and releasing. We saw another downstairs, so I think it's safe to say they are just part of the area, and you should be prepared to face them in any home around izu-kogen. About the area itself: we went to see the Illumination show at the Izu Granpal park and struggled to get a taxi home, which was stressful. Our host was unable to pick us up, and the park employees had to help us.
Our host was very communicative, and wanted to get to know us. He took us on a morning walk at 6:30 AM to see the coastline, and was very knowledgable about the area. The location was excellent: very close to the train station (8 min walk) but still in a residential area. There are a lot of quirky museums nearby, and the coast was only about 15-20 minutes away.
