Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.

AustraliaWe loved everything, no complaints at all!!
The owners were very helpful and accommodating and picked us up/dropped off when we left. Fantastic room (103) it was a bit quirky, but we absolutely loved it. The extra space was great, and the beds were surprisingly comfortable. The absolute best thing about the property has to be the 2 x private onsen. My child and I loved being able to use the baths for just ourselves , especially the outdoor one (there are 2 in that one, indoor and outdoor).we used it every night, sometimes twice! There is a booking sheet out the front of each onsen and people just write their names each day. There are only about 8 or so rooms, so they were never close to being booked out as i had feared (before i arrived). The property is also a short walk from echoland mainstreet and the shuttle buses, etc. Lovely stay, we will be back.

AustraliaNothing to mention. Highly recommend this place.
We rented the deluxe apartment and the living space was perfect for 4x travelling adults providing the facilities we need. It also had a private hot bath which made our stay extra special. It's close to the bus stop (5 min walk situated at Spicy Rental.. good place to rent snow gear too). Special thanks to "Sune" who picked us up from Hakuba Station late at night due to delays in transport. Also dropped us back early hours at check out which we are very grateful.

United KingdomNothing. It was fantastic
We really enjoyed our stay at Pension Tomato. It exceeded our expectations and was a wonderful place to stay for our first visit to Hakuba. Close to the Main Street of Echoland with everything you need. The private onsen after skiing each day was fantastic.

AustraliaSuch a great stay! I couldn’t recommend it enough. The hosts are so sweet and accommodating. Luggage storage, early check in, free airport shuttle, etc. The amenities are also really great and kept very clean. We had fresh towels and clean bathroom each day. The onsens are especially amazing after a long day of skiing. The beds were not the most plush, but you really don’t notice after a long day… had great sleep the whole stay. Location wise, it’s perfect. Super close to bars, restaurants, shops, gear hire, and the free shuttle busses to take you to the mountains.

GermanyThere is nothing I did not like.
Private Onsen, beautifully built. Onsen time scheduled for 45 minutes so everyone can get his turn without stress. Multi Onsen booking possible. The owners (a very nice couple) deserve the title of „best hosts ever“. They printed out train schedules and circled the trains we had to catch, they helped us plan a daytrip, they drove us to the next hotel, so we didn’t have to get a cab. If I could, I would even give additional stars for this pension. I will certainly return.

JapanOverall everything was great. A toaster in the cottage would be helpful and a few more knives. But these are small things.
Lovely place to stay on a quiet street in Hakuba a short walk to restaurants and shuttle for skiing. Owners are wonderful people. Extremely helpful and friendly. The private onsen is nice after a day on the slopes.

United StatesThe beds are very comfy but they are a bit small especially for two people lol.
This is a nice cabin feeling hostel stay in the middle of the snowy wonderland of Hakuba Valley. It is a great walking distance from downtown Echoland and from the free shuttle bus pickup for all the resorts! The Onsens are private and relaxing, very tranquil and allows time to decompress and relax the muscles after snowboarding/skiing. The hosts are very helpful and the breakfast/dinner is also very lovely with them as hosts.

FrancePerhaps the mattresses could be slightly firmer for comfort, but that was totally acceptable
Tsune and and his wife have been amazing hosts, discreet enough yet being there any time we need them. Tsune came to pick us up in Hakuba station and the ride to their place is very short. They always provide a very kind assistance when needed and we have no reason to complain about anything. The property has convenient facilities such as the wooden stove, the coffee machine, and the amazing onsen bath that we used almost every day.

AustraliaWonderful location just setback from the main street in Echoland, with buses and shuttles to the various resorts within close walking distance. The rooms were excellent and provided us everything we needed, fitting all four of us comfortably. The private Onsens were fantastic. Warmly welcomed and helpful with all our questions. Will be staying here again when we return to Hakuba!

United StatesWall are thin , wear the earplugs they provide !
I had mixed feelings when we first checked it. The beds weren’t really beds but thick pads that were underneath a raised sitting area . Room was extremely small and our bathroom was across the hall . After the initial shock the place began to grow on me. The mattress pad is actually very comfortable and having the bathroom across the hall was never an issue. The onsen made this place spectacular. After a long day of skiing soaking in the hot onsen was the perfect way to end the day. The owners speak minimal English but are lovely and we never had an issue communicating- they picked us up from the train station and dropped us off at the bus station on our last day. They even made a pit stop so we could send our bags to the airport.

The innkeepers are fantastic - very hospitable. They helped our family on arrival at Hakuba Station and then dropping us back via the ski rental shop. The onset in the property is fantastic. The food produced by Pension Tomato is outstanding - we highly recommend that people try the set dinner. Great value for what you get!

AustraliaThe cottage was incredibly spacious and comfortable for our family of 5 which can be difficult to come by in Japan. Staff were only too happy to pick us up from the Hakuba Station and take us to our accomodation, return us back to the Happo bus terminal on departure and assist us to use the Takkyubin to forward our luggage back to the airport. Very friendly and accomodating. Highly recommend Pension Tomato.

Absolute hidden gem! My partner and I stayed here for 1 week and loved every bit of it. Private onsen everyday after a solid day on the slopes. Walking distance to the main street in Echoland for all restaurants, bars & ski rental shops. We had a rental car and they provided parking within 100m of the accomodation which was great. Easy access to buses if needed to all resorts as-well. Owners are probably the most kind, genuine Japanese couple I have ever met! They even got up at the crack of dawn just to say goodbye to us. We will be back again, Thanks!

United StatesThe rooms are a bit small which we knew ahead of time, and there's not really any storage to help organize our things. It was really nice to have the drying room for all of our ski things though!
Pension Tomato was exactly as described and we had a great stay! We were picked up from the bus station and dropped back off with a stop to ship skis which was very helpful. We also got breakfast one day which was really good - omelet, breads, soup, salad, yogurt, fruit. The place was so cozy with a wood fire burning, and the private onsens were so nice after being out in the snow all day. The location was close to everything in Echoland and easy to take the shuttle to the ski areas.
