How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewGenuinely such an amazing place. It was so comfortable and the host was so accommodating! She was so lovely. This place is close to the bus stop so it’s easy to get around to places like the Kawazu Waterfalls etc. Definitely add the breakfast to your booking it was so good especially since there’s not much around restaurant-wise. The rooms were comfortable and had aircon. Would 100% recommend staying here!

Verified reviewClean. The sole proprietress is kind and friendly.
Only 1 bath seems to be open for use but I noted that not a lot of rooms are rented out since the property is only managed by one lady. Nearest convenience store is a round-trip of 4mins by car / 25mins by foot

Slightly out of the way location. Would be easy with a car but still accessible by bus and 5 min walk.

Verified reviewThe room was spacious and very comfortable. It had a view of the river. The lady was really nice and her food was delicious. There was a private onsen which could be used at night.
If you have dust alergies you might have some problems, the property is clean but old. There is not much to do around.

Verified reviewThe hotel locates at a quiet location next to a hot spring creek. Natural surrounding created such a beautiful peaceful resting place. The hotel was very clean, cosy and comfortable. Hotel also offers hot spring onsen which has been included. The breakfast was amazing. We booked 7 am to have our breakfast but I guess the host could be busy at kitchen for hours. The host is very friendly with limited English. However we did not have much problem to chat, including borrowed some bowls to heat our food brought from Shuzenji. The main reason we selected this hotel is to experience something different than fancy onsen hotels around Shuzenji, which could be very commercialised and costly. Pension Amagiji really surprised us. Very happy stay. Really like this place and will come back to stay longer next time.
It is located about 15 min away driving from Shuzenji temple. As we were having a car, so few more minutes driving is not an issue.

Verified reviewWe went there for a cycling trip and it was the perfect homebase. We immediately felt at home, the breakfast was traditional japanese and really delicious every day. The hospitality was immaculate and after our long rides we really enjoyed the onsen to relax. The room was tidy and we slept really well on the futon. Do recommend and definitely would love to come back there some time.

Its a hidden gem of Japanese countryside living with a beautiful house, pristine nature and river flowing around, Japanese aesthetic designs in the house and amazing host. The onsen is beautiful. Verified reviewVery nice place. I came by bicycle from Tokyo, and owner kindly allowed to store it inside by the counter. Overall place is very clean, NO insects were spotted inside at all. And let not the absence of toilet/shower in the room turn you away - there is a wash basin inside the room, with dryer and all things needed; and plenty of toilets just near your room, everything very clean and equipped with latest tech washlet toilets. And the best part: private hot spring (onsen), where you could chill alone. And price for a stay was very affordable. Top rating from me.

Verified reviewBeautiful, remote location, with a river running down below, creating a perfect atmosphere to relax. Stayed together with my partner it's the perfect place. Peace and quiet, baths at the pension as well as delicious food in the morning. If you have access to a car, I highly suggest this place over others. We highly recommend this and would come back here if we ever go to Izu again. The absolut best part was the host - on of the kindest people in Japan.
For those of you who doesn't speak Japanese it will be slightly difficult to communicate when arriving, but I'm sure you can figure it with some google translate.

Verified reviewA wonderful stay with comfortable futon beds, private balconies overlooking the peaceful river, and a beautifully designed ryokan with modern Japanese interiors. The two onsen baths onsite are a great way to relax after a long day, and be sure to try the delicious home-cooked Japanese breakfast offered by the kind hostess! Could not recommend this stay more highly!
Guests travelling without cars may find it difficult to access the property and make the most of travelling around the Izu Peninsula.
