Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

SingaporeThe location is far from train station. You will be walking 20min and there's no public bus to reach there on your first checkin day. However there is a hotel bus that takes you to Otsu station. There's also not anything near the hotel. Closest non hotel conbini is like 20min walk away.
The view of lake biwa was breathtaking. Day and night view, seeing the sunset and sunrise were splendid.

JapanBreakfast is a little on the pricey side, we were glad we didn't take it also because of the complicated queuing system with indication of congestions. Sounds like a stressful breakfast although we didn't actually try. There are on-site restaurants, but we opted to drive to find a reasonable local eatery for dinner. The room is also a little dated.
Gorgeous view of the lake from room. Easy access to parking. Bigger than expected space. Good amenities. Very good value for money, we had a very comfortable stay for 1 night only.

JapanThe EV chargers are slow and expensive (¥500 per hour for 6kwh - which is ¥2500 for a measly 30kw of charge, for example). I wish (1) it would be provided to EV users to charge overnight free for hotel guests so they can continue on their journey worry-free, or (2) have rapid fast chargers so guests wouldn’t need to search around the city.
It offers amazing lake view and comfortable rooms.

SingaporeWhen we arrived (by car), the concierge didn't even bother to help us with the luggage. There is no public bath but there is a bath tub with bath salt provided.
Every room has a lake facing. Can see the Michigan ship come to the dock in the morning. The hotel has a huge swimming pool.

BelgiumWe had a great stay at Lake Biwa Otsu Prince Hotel on our way to Hiroshima. It’s a large hotel with spacious rooms and beautiful views of the lake. The room size exceeded our expectations, offering plenty of space to relax after a day of travel. Breakfast was excellent, with a wide selection to choose from. We also appreciated the convenience of free parking, which made things very easy as we were traveling by car. There was nothing we disliked during our stay. Everything was smooth and comfortable. Tip for future guests: have dinner at the German restaurant Wurzburg, just a short walk from the hotel and right by the lake. It was a lovely spot to unwind in the evening. Highly recommended for a relaxing stopover or as a base to explore the Lake Biwa area.

IndiaI am not a big fan of this location. It is kinda a ghost town after dark and nothing much to eat besides at the hotel restaurants, which do not have a many vegetarian options; I did not find any. Lake Biwa walk is nice but pollution sometimes messes up the look. I would have a had a better time staying in Kyoto and making a day trip to here.
The hotel room is super clean and spacious. The bed is very comfortable. I just wanted to stay in my room, it was that nice. The staff are very friendly and helpful.

BelgiumMy experience at the Lake Biwa Otsu Prince Hotel was nothing short of outstanding. From the moment I arrived, I was warmly welcomed by the staff, whose genuine kindness and professionalism set the tone for a truly memorable stay. The team consistently went above and beyond to ensure every detail was perfect. Whether it was assisting with local recommendations, accommodating special requests, or simply greeting guests with a warm smile, their dedication to hospitality was evident in every interaction. The hotel itself offers breathtaking views of Lake Biwa, and the serene atmosphere is ideal for both relaxation and exploration. But what truly sets this place apart is the people—courteous, attentive, and always ready to help with grace and efficiency. I wholeheartedly recommend the Lake Biwa Otsu Prince Hotel to anyone seeking comfort, elegance, and exceptional service. It’s a place where you’re not just a guest—you’re genuinely cared for.

IndonesiaThe room is spacious, with comfortable bed (not as hard as the usual Japanese bed). View is nice, with restaurant on the top. There's free shuttle for Otsu station, which is quite far from the hotel. Overall, recommended for family or couple's stay.

AustraliaThe hotel only had high end restaurants and no room service, or every day dining or drinking. There were few restaurants in the area that were open late. There was no English speaking channels on the TV even though the channel guide said otherwise. The one bar in the hotel required booking as there was limited seating.
The room size was excellent and the view spectacular. The rooms were well appointed and comfortable. The staff were helpful and the free shuttle very useful due to the location of the hotel.
