Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GermanyThe house is in the suburbs of Matsumoto. So you should better have your own car to get anywhere
This is a really beautiful original japanese tatami room. A rare opportunity to live in a room in traditional style.

Elia is super nice and helpful, the house is 60 years old but it was so well renovated and maintained that I thought it was newly built! We had the best night of rest after 2 days hike in Nagano. Super host with super comfort, we plan to come back again and stay longer next time, there is so much to explore and to do around the area!

United StatesThere is nothing I would change except to stay longer.
Elia was an amazing host, who went above and beyond at every step. He and his wife have a fantastic home, and it was the most beautiful location I have stayed in in Japan yet. He's also a professional chef so even his breakfast was delicious, and his garden in the back was superlative.

United KingdomThe location is a little out from the centre or any walkable locations. Also you're staying in effectively the same vicinity as the hosts.
Traditional feel to the house which is a great novelty. The hosts are really friendly.

NetherlandsHad a great stay with Elia and Yurie! They also picked me up and brought me from the train station. The house is a traditional Showa era home with beautiful tatami flooring. They also gave me some great recommendations for places in Matsumoto. If you need to recharge this is a great place. Having a bike was an amazing way to get around and see the surrounding area and city. Bedankt voor alles! En helemaal voor de fiets!

AustraliaBest to go with your own car/bike to give the best mobility and access to town etc...
Imagine a home-stay on the outskirts of a city in Europe, then transpose to the highlands of Japan, in a traditional Japanese setting with beautifully renovated rooms. Very friendly service and informative/accomodating hosts, you also get to enjoy a continental breakfast before taking off for the day to see the wonders of the Nagano region.

United StatesGoogle map of the house was not accurate, which is around 5-10 meters further AND on the other side of the street. We arrived after dark and it took us a good 10min to find the right house.

AustraliaThe bus to the center needs coins, so make sure you always have 300cent coins with you, otherwise you can't take the bus.But great option is having bicycles and ride into town amids rice fields, feeling like a local
Elio and his wife have put so much effort and love I to this beautiful guest house. It is stunning and very traditional, exceptionally clean and lovely. You will be sharing bathroom and toilet with the hosts, but have a whole japanese living room and bed room for yourself.Breakfast is included and extremely yummy The hosts are alternatively inclined regarding food and eco consciousness, so perfe t for people with the same mindset, you will love it

United StatesWhile conveniently right on a bus line, it took longer to get into town or to any food / grocery shops than I had anticipated. As a foreigner, I had a hard time contacting a taxi without a Japanese speaker's help -- which Yurie was happy to do, but it made the coming and going trickier than I anticipated.
Elia and Yurie were wonderful hosts! It was lovely to stay in a traditional Japanese home with beautiful, clean, and comfortable bedding and rooms. They are very welcoming -- even going above and beyond to let our children explore their lovely gardens and let my husband take early morning work calls in their living room so that we could keep sleeping! Thank you for having us.

CanadaNothing, everything was wonderful.
Nonna Milli was incredible- the beds were exceptionally comfortable, especially as Elia and his wife had them custom made for extra thickness. We woke up more comfortable than when we went to bed! The house is so beautifully kept and restored, with everything so well thought out- it felt very special staying in this house being our first time in Japan. Everything was immaculately clean. Sharing the bathroom was no problem at all, we didn’t even feel like it was a shared bathroom it was always available for us. A highly memorable experience in Matsumoto!

United StatesParking on a slightly busy road was tricky and the walls are authentic paper thin- cool for authentic experience but not at all sound proof
Very authentic Japanese home stay with lovely couple that made us feel welcome. One of the best futon on tatami mats for comfort (although a little short for someone over 5’10”) that we’ve had. I would definitely recommend this stay for anyone wanting an authentic Japanese style tatami experience

FranceConsidering the distance from Matsumoto center you have to take the local bus every day. The fact that there are no sites, no shops, no grocery stores, no restaurants no breakfast service as a guest you have to plan ahead once moving in or out the house.
A charming traditional Japanese guest house inside Matsumoto. The House is full of wooden details and touches, really clean and all feel calm and harmonious.

NetherlandsThe futons are a bit harsh to sleep on. The host told us he’ll make them thicker in the beginning of 2025. So that won’t be a thing anymore!
The authentic Japanese-style room was beautiful. The host made us feel at home and was hospitable. Also he’d had amazing recommendations, ask for the gyoza restaurant and for the katsu restaurant if you’re there! We had a great stay and would recommend it to everybody who is planning a trip to Matsumoto, also for the experience to sleep on a futonbed, as 2 Europeans it was a first :-)
