Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesThe facility is a bit old, sometimes rough around the edges and well-worn, but felt sufficiently clean for the most-part, and good for the budget-conscious traveller. The place is in an area with lots of onsen on the outskirts of Aizu Wakamatsu, so I would say it's most easily accessible by car- might be difficult just by walking or public transit?
The owner was extremely kind and attentive and gave lots of good recommendations about places to visit in the city and nearby. The bath was really hot and the breakfast was consistently good. The room felt fairly private and spacious. Simple and retro in a good way :)

United StatesThe doors to rooms are kind of thin, so I could hear the guy next to me talking on his phone for 2 hours straight.
The staff were wonderful - the two owners were very friendly, and one of them speaks English very well! The breakfast was great, and the location relative to the onsen was very good.

JapanI didn't know where the hair dryers and yukatas were because there was no information. You can't expect amenities. There is no convenience store nearby. But I think it wouldn't be a problem if I could check in a little earlier and ask a lot of questions.
He was a very friendly owner and took care of me despite the last minute reservation. You can soak in the hot spring for twenty four hours. The breakfast was simple Japanese food, and the miso soup with mushrooms was very delicious. And most of all, it is very cheap. If you don't care about simple locks, sound leakage, old floors and hot springs, it will be the best retro and extraordinary experience.

IndiaThe only thing that I would say I had an issue with was the transportation. I would have loved if the frequency of buses was a bit more but that is fine, the host helped me out a lot
The place was amazing in a small hot spring village. It gave me the authentic feel of living in a traditional ryokan. The hosts were amazing and very helpful. They were able to help prepare a vegan breakfast for me. The hostspring was also a really great add on. The place was quiet and overall amazing. The best stay for me in Japan

JapanWe were looking for accommodation in the Aizu Wakamatsu area. I would categorize it as Minshuku and good value for the price. It is run by three elderly gentlemen who are very friendly and helpful. One of them went out of the way to ask in the nearby restaurant if they were still OK to accept us rather late in the evening. It has it's own onsen in the basement, quite interesting climb 'down' there. Excellent breakfast in the morning served in a tatami room and very traditional style.

JapanGreat Old Style Japanese Inn (Ryokan). The building is a bit old but really gives traditional Japanese Inn vibes. The owner is friendly, helpful and very accomodating (can speak any language with translator). Most likely one of the few places in Japan left where you can experience this. OFC the building and facilities are old, but they have everything you need including appliances, washing machine, high-speed Wifi etc. Incredible value for money, being very cheap and coming with FREE complimentary breakfast at any time you want. The location is great if you like quietness, beautiful natural landscapes (recommended during Momigi season in Autumn or during snow season in the Winter) and just enjoy the Onsen (thermal bath). When i went there no one else was using the public bath at the same time, and was like having a private onsen. also, the water quality is much better than the much fancier much larger Inns of the areas (which are also 3-4x more expensive)

JapanNothing in particular, just expect creaky floors and pretty steep stairs of a nearly 70 years old building.
Very comfortable bedding, fully in Japanese-style. Excellent home cooking for breakfast, freely refill rice and miso soup as much as you want. Very accommodating hosts, helped arranged a trip back to Aizu-Wakamatsu station in the early morning to catch the train back to Koriyama. Amazing hot spring water to soak in! They provide a kotatsu, stove and heater for the rooms during the snowy winter.
