Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

FranceI was a little confused because the entrance glass door was closed but you're supposed to force it by hand. I didn't appreciate how my ID was given back to me after making a copy of it, it felt like it was thrown back on the counter, really not was I got used to in Japan in term of quality of service and politeness. I would have appreciated just a smile or a word of welcome, I understand that the employee might not speak English well but it felt very cold and unwelcoming. The place is not dirty but it definitely dusty and smells weird. The bedding wasn't very confortable, you have to make your own bed which is not an issue but the linen wasn't soft at all. I was in the deluxe dorm and I was the only one there that night.
Very convenient location, there's also a cheap supermarket within 5 minutes walking

AustraliaVery dated and old. The toilet didn’t really work nor did the air conditioning in the second room. The hotel was quite run down and looked to be undergoing repair.

SpainThe shower water temperature was a bit complicated to control. Also the kitchen doesn't have a place where to cook (only a microwave), although I think that's enough for a short term trip.
Very convenient location, it's in front of the train station. And at some meters from a supermarket where you can buy a lot of stuff for eating and others.

We came with a family of 4 and booked a small room. The receptionist saw our family and gave us two rooms free of charge.

FranceThe stairs (to be used in case of fire or earthquake) were used for storage and blocked by the stuff. That's not right. There were only two plates provided for the 4 bed accommodation (seriously, why?). The kitchen was also lacking in other things, like glasses and utensils. Instead of the two single beds in the living room area a sofa bed would be more practical. The two beds take up all the space. (but the separate bedroom is quite big and there's a wardrobe for unpacking). If you're taller than 185cm, beware. There are beams and cupboards and doorframes hanging low. You might hit your head and generally feel a cramped in this room (I don't know about the other rooms)
Family Room: Excellent location just opposite Tobu Nikko station / Nikko bus terminal and near a supermarket. There isn't a picture of the second room (a bedroom with a queen sized comfy bed) on booking.com (negligence on the hotel's part) but I assure you there is one, and it's quite good. The heating was enough (even though it was April, it snowed during our stay). The bathtub is quite long compared to most hotels in Japan.

AustraliaThe entire building was very dated. Cleaning could have been improved as there was still a bag of clothes left by the previous tenant. Rust was evident in the walls of the bathroom, mold was also present. Heating only worked in the living room/bedroom. Going to the unheated bathroom and shower was not pleasant. Wall paper was also peeling
Property is in a great location near the Tobu-Nikko station, close to a shopping center and close to the Bus and Taxi ranks. I got a double room which turned out to be a small apartment.

IsraelThey had a mix up in the reservation so we got someone's else's bed and had to move the second night. They just took out all our things and put them out in the hallway when we were out of the hostel instead of asking us to do it. The staff is mostly not there and you have to contact them somehow for them to come and give service. The beds were dusty. One of the showers has a problem where water concentrates in a poil in the middle instead of draining.
The double beds are very large and comfortable with plenty of space do even bags inside. The location is great and price is cheap.
