Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

Older style, well maintained hotel with Japanese futon style beds. The location is excellent and the family who run the place are very helpful with anything you may need.

Great location next to the ski lift. Older style but cozy apartment, shared bathrooms and has a small onsen. Can rent snow gear through reception for much cheaper. Friendly staff too. Shuttle van can be arranged for free from the train station to the accommodation.

Taiwan1. Ichiushi is generally less tourist, so there's no convenience store nearby (need to walk 15+ minutes to closest 711). 2. Staff are not fluent in English, but with Google translation, most requests can be communicated. 3. Pickup service is only avilable one way. Going back to the station will need to be done via the shuttle bus. 4. They don't offers breakfast now.
1. There's a free massage chair in lobby, very relaxing after a snowboarding day. 2. Offers ski/snowboard/gears/clothing rental service. Easy access, good price and quality. 3. Hot Spring with great temparature. 4. Pickup service from train station is available during snow season. (We asked tourist center to help make the phone call) 5. We stayed for five nights, they would come change towels/trash bin every 2 nights, very sweet. 6. Hotel is close to the central gate of Ishiuchi, which is the main bus stop to reach Echigo-Yuzawa station.

Very convenient for skiing with affordable rentals. The owner and their friends run the business and are very friendly. Although they don’t speak English, they were able to ask and assist with everything we needed. We will definitely come back again! Highly recommended, especially for families with young kids—the skiing area is safe, and there are many restaurants just around the corner.

JapanIt’s overall a very old place, but we thought it was perfect as we snowboarded the entire day!
The staff were incredibly helpful and kind! There was coincidentally a raffle when we were there (the gifts were really good!) as well as free Niigata rice to bring home! The room was super bare bones but it was sufficient. The toilets were really new and nice (especially the bidet!). Also free espresso, microwave, massage chairs, luggage storage, drying room for snowboard and skis!

Vietnamnothing, the owners are doing their best!
Charming place with a lot of character. The owner was very nice and hospitable! We visited in the summer but looking at the fireplace and the comfortable couches in the common area, we are envious of those who can experience the winter charm. Great value, not overpriced like the others. As we came to the city around 23:30 after the Nagaoka fireworks festival, it was a very long wait to get a taxi, about an hour. The owner was very nice to drop us off the next day in the hotel car. And we felt very grateful later on the hot day for the frozen water bottle he gave us, which kept us cool! Thank you!

AustraliaThe location was excellent. You can literally ski to the door and the staff were incredibly helpful and friendly, although no one speaks English which made it a little bit challenging. While this is an old property it is incredibly well-maintained and has its own ski rental facility which I suggest strongly people use as it’s much cheaper than most others I found and the equipment is excellent. The restaurant serves traditional Japanese food which is plentiful and tasty . I would gladly stay here again.

AustraliaPrior to my arrival communication with the hotel was difficult. They did not respond to requests for information that would have made planning my stay easier. But once I arrived the staff were all very friendly and helpful.
The hotel is well located, only a very short walk from the Ishiuchi gondola and free shuttle bus stop. The breakfast provided was delicious. There is free coffee in the foyer. The room was very comfortable.

GuamThe toilet area gets pretty cold, but this is very common in Japan. We doubled up our futon in the Japanese-style tatami room for more comfort.
The location is excellent as we were snowboarding--2 minute walk to the Sunrise Gondola/Lift. You can ski to the entrance if you plan your route. Their dry room was excellent, lockers for boots and plenty of space to hang gloves and coats. Breakfast wasn't included in our booking, but we asked to purchase it and they offer a nice Japanese breakfast spread for 1000 yen. Our Japanese-style room had a sink, which was great. Shared bath had all the necessities (shampoo, face wash, etc.). There are many free shuttles to the other mountains and the Echigo Yuzawa train station leaving from the Ishiuchi Maruyama Ski Center so we could hit the slopes all the way until the end of the trip.

AustraliaNot much. Occasionally the free WiFi drops in/out but so do most places.
Located so close to the Ishiuchi ski lift and about 5 min walk to the free ski shuttle bus that connects you to all the mountains in Yuzawa. They offered free laundry which was super helpful and the dry room was always nice and toasty.

JapanThe heater in the room needs adjusting. It doesn’t provide that much heat. Thanks to their comfy beds it gives warmth during night time. The wifi is also not that strong so if you badly need it or relying on it, it’s one thing you would consider. There’s also no open restaurants or cafe nearby. You need to go to the town proper to buy food and take out snacks for the evening.
The location is very accessible. The view from our room is superb. Very close to the gondola lift and bus stop where you can easily ride to and from the town proper and it’s FREE! The staff were very hospitable. We were not able to book breakfast ahead but the staff were kind enough to provide for us. Ski rental and outfits were very cheap. The cheapest in the area. They also provide free coffee and tea, there’s microwave if you need it and heater. Although it’s a bit old the ambiance of the hotel feels like home plus the staff greeted you like family. Would definitely stay here again.
