Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

NetherlandsThe spring feathers in the mattress were so irregular and hard that I woke up with pain in my back. The curtains let so much light in that the sun woke me up at 4a.m. The bathroom was tiny and looked very outdated, but it worked.
The new part looks very stylish. The buffet and breakfast are really good. The onsen is super well equipped with conditioner and skin care products. The view is wonderful and the staff is friendly.

SingaporeFirst room was facing the lake but somehow, no air-conditioning and stuffy. Spoke to recept staff and was told that it is only air cool and to open the window to let outside air into the room but the so call window wire mesh does not offer full protection of insect flying into the room and it was really messy with all the insects flying around. Thereafter requested a room changed and though facing the road, it is so much better with the aircond and slightly bigger size than the previous room. Bathroom (no fresh smell) and bathtub were getting worned down and serioulsy a good time to upgrade them.
The breakfast and dinner comes with a varieties of choices to suit everyone's taste. The dining area is pretty big and guests are supposed to book the dining time when checking in. Both the rooftop and public onsen were good. Especially the roofotp - offers a good scenic view.

United StatesThough not hotel fault- The crowdiness noise and aggressive behavior of the large tour groups. We actually felt bad for the nice hotel staff as they had to work 5 times more clean serve the groups and maintain the property
The hotel is very nice, the location unbearable for Akan lake; facilities are gorgeous; food is super delicious and abundant; restaurant is beautiful with gorgeous views of the lake and friendly and efficient staff; room large and clean . Hotel though is large groups oriented and during meals it looked like fight with gigantic asian groups super aggressively running around overfilling plates and stuffing themselves with food. Also at check in and every single day there were loads of enormous suitcases stored or left everywhere. We never took elevators as they were full to the rims with members of the tour groups. They were loud, noisy, disrespectful, aggressive and annoying. We felt minority and overwhelmed with the crowds. If one is looking for quiet experience that is not then place. There is a gorgeous rooftop pool that is as crowded as other areas. Too bad as it is otherwise an amazing property.

Hong KongThe toilet inside the room is too small yet the room size is disproportionately large. You can hardly turn around in the toilet. Hardly manage if you have to help the kids in toilet
Onsen is good. Close to Akan lake cruise and Akan Ainu. Buffet breakfast and dinner are up to standard

Amazing view from our room. Our room was located in the Shangri-la block. Overall, the hotel was well maintained and very clean. The staff were very polite and hospitable right from the entrance to the lobby. After unloading our luggage at the entrance, drivers were led to park at an open space a short distance from the hotel. A hotel van ferried all drivers back to the hotel. Complimentary coffee (machines) and sweets (shaped like the marimo) were provided at the lobby. The ID of the room could be dated to some, it was in tip top condition. Only minor wear and tear. Our futons were made in the evening. Our room was spacious, we slept very well. Do not miss taking a dip in the rooftop while enjoying the view and the music playing in the air. The water was lukewarm. I enjoyed the pool early in the morning while it was less crowded. It was a common pool for male and female guests. Orange tops and shorts were available at the spa. Great that the hotel is only 5 min walk from the Kamui Lumina Night walk. Overall, we had a pleasant and comfortable stay. A great choice in the Lake Akan area. Would love to stay here again.

ThailandDinner & Breakfast were quite busy all the time. Although the food varieties were a lot, but not impressive as the quality was quite so-so. Wi-fi was not good enough as it kept losing the signal.
The scenic views from the pool in the morning & at night are stunning. The onsen and the sauna were very good, as expected.

SingaporeBooked a Japanese style room for 4 adults and was surprise I was given a standard room usually for 2 adults but provided with 4 futons. Super cramped. Need to move big table and stand on the side to be able to lay out 4 futons. No space for 4 luggages.Toilet has no hand soap. Room facilities were a bit old. Some futon mattresses were torn. Booked a similar room for 4 adults at Shiretoko hotel with similar price but the rooms were huge and very spacious, more than double New Akan Hotel. If you have 4 adults, better to book 2 twin rooms. Only consolation is the rooftop onsen with a great view and the huge breakfast buffet spread with Japanese and Westrrn options. Also the great location.
It has a rooftop onsen with great view of Lake Akan and the buffet spread was great with western and Japanese selection.
