Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaI,m not a big fan of the private dining rooms. As a single person I was looking forward to a more social dinner/ breakfast experience.
Wow, one of the best traditional breakfasts in Japan. Very nutritious, tasty and high level presentation, a perfect start to a day on the mountain. The onsen is a great finish to a big day on the mountain.

AustraliaYukiko was a wonderful host (owner also). The location was great. It was quiet and relaxing. The onsen was lovely and clean. Fresh robes delivered every day to your room. Good restaurants near by. You can also buy discounted lift tickets at reception. Beautiful fluffy doonas but remember its traditional ie futons, so you might need to ask for an extra one if you arent used to this type of mattress

Romania* no offer from the hotel to arrange dinner or breakfast - Nozawa also doesn’t have many good options for that - especially quick ones since you want to get to the slopes/tours. We made the reservation well in advance - they could have offered, we just got redirected on arrival to other places in the village
* traditional ryokan with tatami mats and futons * comfortable temperature in winter * onsen within the premises

AustraliaWe were on the second floor, and the footsteps of the people above us were quite a disturbance.
A taste of traditional Japanese hospitality. Spacious room and great to have the on-site onsen. We really enjoyed our traditional Japanese dining experience in the dining room. The hostess speaks quite good English and it was interesting to learn about the food of the region, dining etiquette, and sake!

New ZealandIt is quite expensive. But the room size is big and I understand that it is high season.
Lady at reception is lovely - very friendly! Room are clean and a good size. Onsen at the ryokan is very convenient. And the okonomiyaki place nearby is excellent :)

AustraliaThis Ryokan was extremely clean & neat. Our bed was very comfortable. The private onsen with lots of toiletries was so convenient and it was a beautiful touch to have freshly washed yukaka (pyjamas) provided in our room every day. I would recommend trying the in-house dinner. It was an array of delicious flavours represented over a variety of dishes of Japanese cuisine (with a great explanation of each dish).

AustraliaI cant think of a thing. maybe the walk up the hill to the ski resort.
The Staff were amazing, very helpful. My 87 old mother wasn't accustomed to sleeping on a futon on the floor, the staff brought up extra mattresses for her. The staff were most concerned with my mother who stayed in the room while the rest of the family went skiing. asking after her needs during the day. We were given free tickets to the Fire Festival by the hotel. the hotel also provided discounted lift tickets and referred us to a ski rental shop where we were given another discount (due to where we were staying). The room was huge and very nice. Our room had its own toilet and my sons room had a toilet and shower. Not all rooms had these facilities. The hotel had it's own hot baths, very nice after a day skiing. There were also hot baths scatter around the town. The Hotel dinner Was an incredible, dining experience and i would highly recommend anyone staying here to take part in the dinner. We didn't have the breakfast, which were told by another guest was unfortunate, we had missed an experience. That left us disappointed we hadn't taken the opportunity.

AustraliaMy family is not used to bathing with others in the shared bathroom (which is usual practice in Japanese Onsen) so we just check there is no one before we go in and because the hotel is not that big there is usually a time when we can use the bathroom in private. This is just us and not necessary an issue for other hotel guests.
The rooms and facilities were very clean and comfortable. The owner and her staff were very nice and helpful. Breakfast exceeded our expectations. My friends really enjoyed the in-house onsen. Location is close enough to everything but far enough from busy area so it was both convenient and peaceful. The owner helped us make a booking at a local vegetarian restaurant which was one of the best meals we had. Daily towel and pyjama changes were great. Traditional decor is beautiful. I would definitely recommend.

The hosts were wonderful and welcoming. The place was very clean and tidy, and there was a beautiful onsen that we used multiple times a day. It takes about a ten to fifteen minutes walk to get to the snow ski area, which was perfect.

United StatesWe found a little beetle in our room when we arrived. Not a huge deal, and we didn’t see one again. The location is also a little far to the slopes compared to the other hotels in town.
The in-house onsen and the dinner were both exceptional!
