Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

My friend and I stayed at Morinouta Hotel for one night, and it turned out to be such a lovely experience. The staff were genuinely friendly at one point, the host came over and asked if we wanted some homemade cheesecake (obviously yes, because… cheesecake). They also gave us tips on places to check out nearby, which was really helpful. The rooms were cosy and comfortable, with huge windows that are perfect for sitting by with a cup of tea or for taking slightly dramatic, Victorian-style photos if you’re in the mood.

Beautiful view from the a very spacious room. Extremely clean, newly renovated private bathroom. The private showers with a hot tub were much nicer compared to other Northern traditional Japanese Inns. The hosts were so kind and generous. They treated us like family!

United StatesI loved everything. The location was only a tiny bit inconvenient from the station, but it was absolutely worth it. Probably if it had been closer to the station it would have been noisy with too many people around. There was a very convenient bus stop only meters from the front door.
This place is a treasure! I had no idea what to expect, but this was above and beyond. The Innkeeping family was a delight! Helpful, kind, and thoughtful. The meals were terrific. I enjoyed the onsens several times a day, morning and night, to deal with aching muscles from all the hiking I did. I actually booked two nights here, but I enjoyed it so much I booked a third night! One of the most delightful stays I've had anywhere. Thank you, Thank you!

SingaporeBreakfast and Dinner were amazing ingredient wise and taste wise. Some of the best food I have had in Japan here. The staff are super friendly and its a small and cosy hotel so you really get a lot of attention and detail. Each meal you get several "courses" so it really feels like a premium meal. The onsen is private as well so thats nice for an after dinner soak. Rooms are large as well. Overall the rooms and onsen is great but what made the stay memorable was the food, alcohol and the service. Definitely will recommend this place if you are at Nikko for a relaxing trip.

Staying here and getting breakfast and dinner included was worth it and the best decision we’ve made so far on our trip. The food was absolutely amazing (6 course dinners that included Wagyu steak both nights!). A family business, the owner, Taeko, the chef, Yoshi and our server, Masae, made our stay here extraordinary. They were super kind, accommodating and helpful. When we asked if they could call us a cab to go to the station, Yoshi offered to drive us! If that’s not enough, the private Onsen was amazing! So nice if you’re a couple travelling together. We really liked the quiet location slightly “out of town”. It was nice to escape the busyness. 10/10. Highly recommend staying and eating here.

United KingdomI liked all of it!
Mori no Uta is a delightful family run place with extremely friendly hosts. The interior has a very well kept 1970s vibe. There are two well maintained onsen baths that you can use privately or with you partner/family, and I had no problem accessing them exactly when I wanted. Breakfast and dinner are available on request, and I highly recommend booking one or both of them, as they are excellent. Honestly, the standard of cooking is very very good and they use local ingredients and wagyu beef. When I checked out, the host offered me a lift to the station - an unexpected bonus.

United StatesThis family-run ryokan was delightful! The family was so helpful, and even gave us a ride to the train station after our stay. Every morning I relaxed in one of their two private onsen hot springs. We found that many of the sights were walkable from the ryokan. My room was spacious, with a serene tatami mat area with views. The heating was warm and comfortable. I highly recommend. I actually cried a bit after I said good-bye to my hosts. I wish that the whole world could experience such kindness!

AustraliaYou really do have to time the bus time exactly as it’s a long walk to town.
The host is probably the friendliest person I’ve ever met, she made me the cutest packed lunch every single day during my stay without even asking! The onsen is just incredible, the room is massive. You can really tell they want to go above and beyond. I even saw some reviews saying the road is loud (which I didn’t think it was) and she supplied you with eye masks and ear plugs just for that reason.

ThailandThe hosts are friendly and go out of their way to help and to make sure you are having a pleasant stay. They got us umbrellas on a rainy day, a map of the historic trails around town and the most amazing breakfast. We spent 3 nights and chose Japanese breakfast for all days; you can also choose western breakfast if you wish so. The room was spotless and comfortable, and the sunroom is ideal for a restful time with tea. There are two onsens on the property and we enjoyed soaking after a long day hike. The location is perfect, not too close to the touristic town and next to the bus stop (14), it is so easy to catch the bus to the city and to the mountain and lake too. We had a perfect stay.
