Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

FranceSome may think appliances are old-style (the lamps on the ceiling are switched on /off and light is adjusted using a small cord hanging from the lamp), but I think it gives the place a nice old fashioned flair.
It is ideally located in the beautiful geisha district, which is abound with traditional one and two-storey wooden houses, and not very far from the Omicho market and the Kanazawa castle, which makes it very convenient when you plan to walk only. The landlady is absolutely lovely and was kind enough to make do with my basic Japanese speaking skills. A charming old-fashioned little house. I was in a traditional tatami room (和室), called 梅 (plum tree), with a TV and air-conditioning. The windows are set with shoji (traditional paper screens), which gives the place a lovely atmosphere. I slept on a futon and kagefuton set, which was very comfortable, as the mat was quite thick and covered in a bed pad. A toothbrush set, a yukata (which serves as a traditional night wear), a towel, a tea cup, a matcha tea bag (there is an electric kettle in the room) and a bucket for your towel are also provided, and there are soap and shampoo dispensers in the shower room. Please note that the inn is closed at night (from midnight to six thirty, if I understood it correctly). Showers - one individual shower room for ladies, another one for men (I guess) are on the ground floor, and so is a communal dining room, where I think you can store whatever needs to be kept cold in the fridge. My room was upstairs, where many rooms were named after various Japanese flowers. There were also toilets for men and toilets for women, as well as a large area with wash basins, so that it’s easy to brush your teeth, set your hair (there is a hairdryer) or wash your face. They don’t provide food, but you can grab something nearby for breakfast and for dinner, I crossed the Asanogawa bridge for an early dinner at Sakai, which I strongly recommend.

SpainI wasn´t use to the bed, so, the experience wasn´t all comfortable during the first night.
It is a lovely Japanese traditional house, the room is very clean and comfy. The location is exactly inside the old town which is one of hotest destinations of the city.

AustriaIn the description it says there’s breakfast and the reviews are raving about it, but there is no breakfast.
The room was really spacious and there was a yukata provided. We didn’t have a private bathroom but a private sink, which was nice. Everything was very clean and both the elderly couple and the other man were very friendly. We could reach many sights per foot, which was great.

SpainThe location is amazing. The guesthouse is about 2 minutes walking from Higashiyama district and another 2 minutes walking from the river promenade. If you like walking you can also walk to Kenrokuen (about 20 minutes). We didn't use the bus while being there. The guesthouse decoration is lovely. It feels like stepping into a museum! :D You can tell that the hosts really love their house and they want everything to be perfect :D Finally, the hosts are very nice and helpful!! Thank you so much!! Would love to come back again!! :D

United StatesWindow lacked a sun shade, so room got bright very early, interfering with sleep after 5 am in late May. Futon not as comfortable as other places I stayed, but sufficient. Breakfast not available, despite website stating it was an option.
A great value! Room quiet and larger than expected, and common facilities clean. Fridge and microwave oven in dining area. Location convenient for sightseeing, though a long walk from train station. Owners helpful when needed.

It was a nice room with some nice details, made you feel very much at ease. Everything was very clean and it's around the corner from the old geisha district which is really cute. They also have parking

AustraliaA friend and I shared a family room. Although it did not have a private bathroom, it was comfortable and spacious with a sink just outside the room. The family was very accommodating and friendly. The Higashi Chaya area, where the inn is located is a great place to stay.

ItalyThe staff spoke very little English and did not accept card payments. But these are two very common problems throughout Japan.
Very comfortable facility, very helpful and nice staff (two nice grandparents). Very clean rooms, especially the bathrooms. Excellent area, not very central but still in a great location. Room equipped with every comfort, cleaned every morning and you always found tea.
