Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

I loved everything here. Usually lodge has only Japanese futon in tatami room but we slept comfortably in bed. Breakfast was tasty and hospitality was incredible. They also have sauna 😍

AustraliaNo hot water in the upstairs faucets, I kept them running for a while, so I had to eventually use the ones downstairs near the baths. This is an ongoing issue I’ve noticed with properties in Japan where hot water seems to have trouble getting to upper levels of a house. The bottom of the steps leading up to the front entrance near the snow gear storage exit can get very icy and I nearly slipped over on more the one occasion.
This is an established Ryokan/Chalet in Nozawa Onsen that has been running since the 70s (the wooden decor feels like the 70s). They know what they are doing, there is a system in place for everything; from the schedule they ask guests to utilise for reserving the use of the bath facilities, to being able to book breakfast and dinner, to the information booklet in your room. The facilities are clean. The main attendant is very stern but to the point and still accommodating. The drying room/s for snow gear in the basement are some of the better facilities I’ve encountered on my current trip to Japan so far. There is a gym in the basement which is moderately well equipped, I wasn’t expecting this. Easy access to Nagasaka lift and a number of onsens.

United KingdomOur favourite thing about the property was the wonderful and welcoming host, Yuki. He was extremely helpful and it is thanks to him and his mother that Marushige is run so brilliantly. Our room was traditional Japanese style and extremely cosy - although we were sleeping on futons on the floor we were very warm. The shared bathroom was very clean and all of the other guests were very respectful. The location was perfect for both getting to the slopes on foot, visiting local onsens and getting dinner along the Main Street. One night we had dinner at Marushige and it was fantastic, we ate some very refined local cuisine - they even served us a local delicacy of horse meat sashimi (I have to admit that I could not eat it as I don’t really eat meat but my husband tried it).

SingaporeThe heater was a little noisy at night though.
Good hospitality from the lodge owner. Helpful. Location is near to Oyu street, just 5 mins and about 8 mins from the Chou terminal. Though a bit of uphill climb to the gondola, so depends on which is preferable. Room is clean and functional. And seen to be upgraded recently. The dinner was awesome and great value for money, must try! Will try to visit again next season.

United StatesLiterally nothing could have been better.
Simply outstanding service. Very warm and personable staff. Seiko and Yuki are incredibly gracious hosts. The traditional tatami mat room was peaceful and comfortable, with the steam running outside providing a lovely soundtrack. I asked in advance to have dinner and breakfast at the inn, this is a must! The traditional food was incredible, thoughtfully served, and an excellent value.

AustraliaOur only negative was the shared bathroom, but not a big deal at all. And I couldn't quite work out which slippers went where but that's ok... next time.
Our host Seiko was wonderful and very helpful. The amenities were fantastic, especially the private onsens. The breakfast was delicious but so much for us to eat when we just wanted to hit the snow. And we loved tinkering on the beautiful Yamaha piano, and the drying rooms and place to service our boards were very handy... such a great experience. 👍 🙏

Marushige was such a cozy stay for our few days skiing in Nozawaonsen. The staff was incredibly friendly and extremely helpful. They made you feel right at home. Although there was not an ensuite bathroom, their baths are like mini onsens - Nice and roomy shower rooms with a hot tub in there! Located only a 5 minute walk from the Nagasaka gondola and they give you a 10% discount on renting from Ski Thanx, right by the gondola. Really wonderful experience and would definitely stay here again!

United StatesStaying over new years wasn't cheap, although I'm not sure there would be any better deals in Nozawa Onsen, so there wasn't really anything I was unhappy with.
The staff, location, and cleanliness of Marushige was excellent! Everything was very organized and the shared bathrooms were not an issue as they were very clean and easily reserved. The feel is quite traditional Japanese with floor mats for beds and slippers provided for indoor use, but provided that's not a dealbreaker I thought it was a wonderful place to stay

JapanThe breakfast was really delicious and the perfect start to a day of skiing. The Japanese style room was cosy and very clean. Seiko-san and everyone working at the guest house were really helpful and welcoming. The location is also perfect especially after we realised how easy it was to walk to the gondola instead of taking the shuttle bus, which was also easy.
