Great location! Walking distance to bus terminal, station and other points of intetest. The apartment itself felt bigger than other places we stayed. It was clean and confortable!

Location was perfect, 2 minutes from the train and bus station at Takayama so you can get off the train and dump your luggage soon as to explore which is what we did! Staff less check in and the room was spotless. Bed was located up some bunk bed style ladders so if you're not that able bodied maybe look elsewhere if you struggle with things like that, but it was quite cosy up there!

Door pin code to get in sometimes the buttons wouldn't register the presses, but once you learn the knack of it it's all good, just wait for the beep per button before the next one in the sequence.

The location was excellent - very close to the bus station and a short walk from the old town.

This place was absolutely not appropriate for older guests or anyone with mobility issues. The ladder to get up to the loft was frankly scary. I was travelling with my father and he definitely couldn't get up there, so he slept on the floor downstairs. The futon down there was okay but it wasn't the greatest - not thick enough. Would recommend staying elsewhere unless you are young or quite mobile/fit/strong!

The property allows baggage storage from 12 pm and upto 3 pm on eh day of checkout. That's a huge benefit in Japan where you either need to lug your baggage till you check in at 3 or 4 pm, or find lockers which usually are full quite early. Even though it was the smallest property we stayed at during our trip, the loft was quite nice and gave two distinct spaces if required.

The washbasin leaked and the soap dispenser didn't work properly. Nitpicking though; noticed these only because its a rarity in Japan.

We absolutely loved our stay at KAYA Takayama! The place feels like a warm hug – beautiful design, peaceful atmosphere, and such kind, welcoming staff. Everything was so thoughtful, from the room details to the overall vibe. It really made our time in Takayama unforgettable. Hope to come back one day! Also, the photos on Booking are 100% true to life – what you see is exactly what you get, and even better in person

Good location, clean and everything worked

Our room had the tiny steep loft stairs. When booking it wasn’t clear if that would be our room. The loft ceiling was low and frankly the whole experience was dangerous. No communication before our stay to enter the property, and you miss out totally on any advice or communication with anyone.

KAYA offers a self-check-in experience similar to an Airbnb, providing flexibility for guests. The room was spacious, offering a comfortable stay, and the rain shower was a nice touch for relaxation.

The check-in process was confusing, with no clear instructions in the booking.com app, requiring assistance from a neighboring grocer. The emails also lacked clarity, but eventually, the entry code was found at the very end of the email chain. The walls are thin, which may lead to noise disturbances, and navigating the steps can be challenging.

    - location - facilities for bathroom - lot of space with a living room - common washing machine for free

    - no kitchen or facilities to eat - steepy stair - a bit cold due to north exposition

The room was so spacious, everything was very clean, it was close to restaurants and main attractions in the town and the facilities in the room were excellent! We were so blown away when we first walked into the room. We loved how big the fridge was and that there was a sauna and huge bath to use. We would stay again in a heartbeat!

The only things we didn’t like were the pillows (a bit too thick for us).

The location was perfect. Easy to reach from the station but in easy walking distance to restaurants and attractions. This meant we could do everything we wanted to do through a mix of walking and bus. The room was very comfortable and the bed was a perfect balance of hard and soft. The entire design of the space was slick and very cool.

I stayed in a small split-level room. (It’s not the one with the red bath tub in the photos. It had a shower instead.) The room was very clean, with good temperature control. It is also very conveniently located near the train & bus stations and old town. The main negative is the ladder. Even though I knew the bed was in a loft, it was still much harder to get up and down than I expected. As shown in the photos, the ladder has no hand rail, and the loft has a low ceiling. So you have to stoop to get off or onto the ladder, which didn’t feel safe, especially in the middle of the night. The bed was a bit hard for my taste. Also, the bean bags are cute in concept, but I would have preferred real furniture.
