Very early dinner, but understandable due to weary hikers. Also, some loud guest in lobby at late hours.

    Location is amazing.

Everything was very clean and I like that it was right in the middle of Magome! Dormitories were really spacious too and I was able to open my luggage easily :) Bed and pillows were also really comfortable.

It was a bit hard to find using the car and google maps. Very tight road to get to backside for parking. But if there were instructions for accessing that way it would have been helpful.

The place was sooo clean. I enjoyed the authentic Japanese feel. Loved the dinner! It was great to have someone explain the dinning process. We didn’t even mind sharing the restroom and showers they still felt private and clean.

The washing machine cannot be used after 5:00 p.m., so please be mindful of the time if you need to do laundry.

The building itself is very well maintained; despite its long history, it is remarkably clean, solid, and pleasantly comfortable. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious, full of Japanese flavor, and served in just the right portions. The staff were warm and welcoming, with excellent communication skills in both English and Japanese, and they were always eager to assist. The traditional Japanese bedding was warm and comfortable, spotlessly clean with no odors, allowing for a truly restful night’s sleep.

This was just charming. Such a change of pace from the big cities. Couldn't fault the place or the staff and the food was exceptional. We went for walks and everyone we came in contact with was friendly and helpful. Wish our stay was longer.

    - the entrance area of the hostel, why there is a dirty piece of paper cardboard instead of some kind of mat? - the common areas upstairs were not very nice, but ok to have quick snack

    - the location is absolutely awesome - the dorm room was surprisingly nice and quite private, so there was not only a curtain for each bed but every bunk bed has its own private area due to another curtain, therefore privacy is very high and the beds are not crammed next to each other - very nice breakfast!

We loved our stay here! It’s like a mix of a hostel and a ryokan. The host was so helpful, ensuring we had the right plan using the buses to get where we needed to go. It is the perfect location, too. I would absolutely stay here again.

Other people can be very loud, be prepared for that and bring earplugs.

The kitchen area has a fridge which can be used. The private showers were nice and always clean.

The internet service was quite slow and blocked VPN connections

The place is very clean and well organized. It's a short hike up the hill from the bus stop, so be prepared if you're carrying bags. The staff spoke English well and were very attentive. We opted for the dinner set and were pleasantly surprised at the amount and quality. Was more than we expected. We did not opt in for the breakfast.

Magome Chaya would be perfect if they had rooms with private bathroom. I saw people complaining in other reviews about it, but you just need to have the mind set that you are staying in a guesthouse and all will be fine! I don’t have any complain!

The location is simply amazing! Exactly in the middle of Nakasendo Trail, reason why we chose to stay there. Jenny is very helpful and friendly, she speaks perfect English which we communicated before by email and during our stay. The dinner was fantastic! I highly recommend it.

Not a fault of the hotel, but be aware that the whole village is deliberately traditional, so EVERYTHING shuts by 5pm: there is no food and no bar. You MUST book the hotel evening meal (which is excellent, in any case), and look forward to a quiet, contemplative evening.

Excellent location, right in the centre of the village with the Nakasendo trail literally on the doorstep. The hotel was very simple in the traditional Japanese manner, with shared bathrooms, but everything was spotless and everything worked. The staff were very friendly and very helpful. The evening meal, at 6pm sharp, was a highlight of our trip to Japan.

The meals are quite expensive. It is however delicious. I think the rokan could gives us less portion and charge more affordable rate.
